      It's the bonds that are underwater. That is because of the nature of our financial system, how our economy runs and with inflation prompting rates to rise, those bonds are now worth a ton less. Hence, not enough to cover outflows. 3 years ago, they'd be fine but with fighting inflation, things break and rightfully so.

    • @ball-is-life6477
      @ball-is-life6477 ปีที่แล้ว

      The companies this bank held deposits for and lent to certainly were not doing stock buybacks at any point. Reading these comments it’s insane how financially illiterate people are. Really shows in moments like this how little people understand. You’re a democrat getting mad about buybacks some other guy is blaming Biden. How about this? You’re both clowns who don’t know what you’re talking about and this has absolutely nothing to do with the federal government

    • @Mark-rw3kw
      @Mark-rw3kw ปีที่แล้ว

      Banks don't have enough cash on hand if everyone wants to withdraw their money all at once. If they did, they would not make any profit and could not exist. They loan out their cash received from depositors to other people to buy cars, homes, and to run businesses (and also buy bonds issued by the US Government and corporations) to earn interest on the money deposited in the bank. But it takes time to liquidate all those assets if everyone wants to withdraw their money from the bank at once. Stock buybacks are not an issue here.
