Kudos to Joe for making this daytime version his own version, but it was on the tacky side. It worked out so much better as a prime time show. The ratings weren’t great; this was a time when ITV struggled to find a 5:00 pm staple, which they eventually found with The Chase.
The UK would have enjoyed greater success with The Price is Right if they had just copied our American version of the show, rather than trying to re-invent it every so often as something new. The American version airs one hour a day, 5 days per week, and just entered it's 52nd season, having premiered in 1972. The theme music is the same, the logo font is the same, the stage layout is the same. Everything has been freshened and made more colorful over the years, but the components of the show remain the same. There's an old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The Price is Right remains hugely successful here in the US and, in 52 seasons, has had only two hosts, and that was only because the original host, Bob Barker, retired at age 83 after hosting the show for 35 years.
