    COLUMBIA ICEFIELD Glacier Adventure Tour in Jasper Alberta Canada Athabasca Glacier
    The Columbia Icefield is the largest ice field in North America's Rocky Mountains. Located within the Canadian Rocky Mountains astride the Continental Divide along the border of British Columbia and Alberta, Canada, the ice field lies partly in the northwestern tip of Banff National Park and partly in the southern end of Jasper National Park. It is one of the largest non-polar ice fields in the world. Here, you’ll travel on a massive Ice Explorer to a place where you can walk on, feel and drink from the Athabasca Glacier.
    This is the most unique Jasper attraction in the Canadian Rockies. Massive Ice Explorers, specially designed for glacial travel, take passengers on a remarkable excursion onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier.
    In this video we took Columbia Icefield Glacier Tour on Ice Explorer to Athabasca Glacier. The glacier tour starts at Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre on Highway 93 Icefields Parkway, and Ice explorer take to Athabasca Glacier where people can walk around and drink pure glacier water. This is definitely thing to do and thing to see in Jasper Alberta, and one of the most famous Jasper point of interest.

    I went to Banff Canada in 1979 with my family. We went to Lake Louise. Then we went on the Gondola lift. Then we went to Columbia Ice Field but by the time we got there, we missed the last shuttle. But after viewing this video, I see that I didn't miss much. LOL.

    In 1976 I worked as a cooks helper in the chalet, fresh out of high school and what an adventure. I loved this place.
    I never had the chance to go back until 2006. And I was amazed at the changes. It was not a simple tourist destination any more. I was also saddened by how much the Athabasca Glacier had receded. I enjoyed your video.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Thanks again for another brilliant in depth video. I have seen a few videos but not as detailed such as showing the checking process all the way to the end of the tour.
    I was thinking from experience, when you film something like this you cannot enjoy it more than if you had no camera; that is the selfless part of what you guys do. Thanks again. I look forward to the Skywalk.

    When we first walked on it back in 1967 there were survey posts marking how it had receded since I think the late 1800's or early 1900's not sure if they still place those markers there . Hiking along some of the nearby peaks we found fossils of tiny sea creatures which gets the brain working !

    • @lvfreeAdventures
      @lvfreeAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was at the end of July, and we still needed light jackets. Definitely take a jacket (not for heavy winter - but warm enough) and hat - it is colder on icefield and almost always windy. Recommend hiking boots, running shoes may get wet really fast

    It is a nice landscape still, but I assume those glaciers must have shrunken a lot since the region got its name. I doubt that someone would have called it "Ice Fields" if it would have had this amount of ice back then, even if it obviously will be more in winter.
