The Firsts Episode 72: As'ad Ibn Zurara Notes: -As'ad (or Asad) Ibn Zurara Ibn Udas is from the Najjar clan of the Khazraj tribe. His qunyah is Abu Umama Al-Ansari. -Both his father and mother (Suad bint Rafi) were from An-Najjar (one of the biggest sub-tribe in Al-Madinah). -He had two brothers Sa'd and Masood and two sisters Al-Faria' and Az-Zabiha. -His siblings and mother embraced Islam but her father would die before Islam. -He was married to Amira (or Umayra) Ibn Sahl from Banu Najjar and had three young daughters Al-Faria', Habiba and Kabsha. -Prophet's great grandmother was from Banu Najjar. -As'ad was a monotheist before Islam. -He became the chief of Banu Najjar ten years after the Prophet ﷺ received revelation (i.e., 620) at the age of around 18-20 years. -The first time he heard of the Prophet ﷺ was, when he along with Zakwan bin Abdul Qais was seeking assistance from Utbah Ibn Rabi'ah. -During hajj, the Prophet ﷺ gave dawah to six men from Yathrib, among them was As'ad. They embraced Islam and brought another six to give the pledge to the Prophet ﷺ. The next year seventy people took the pledge of Al-Aqaba and the spokesperson of the ansar on that day was As'ad. -The Prophet ﷺ divided the 70 people in groups and appointed 12 leaders. As'ad was assigned as the leader of Banu Najjar. -He was the first man to break the idols in Yathrib. -He also used to gather people on Friday to remember Allah SWT and pray two rakat (Zuhr, before, used to be only two rakaat ) in congregation before Jumah was legislative. -Abdur Rahman Ibn Kab said that whenever he would take his father out (who had lost his sight) for Friday prayer, his father on hearing the adhan would ask forgiveness and supplicate for As'ad. Abdur Rahman couldn't understand the reason behind it, so he asked his father. His father replied that As'ad was the first person to lead us in Friday prayer before the Prophet ﷺ came. At that time, there were around forty people. -As'ad was paired off with Talha Ibn Ubaidullah and Hamzah Ibn Abdul Muttalib in Al-Madinah. -The Prophet's ﷺ mosque was built at a place where used to ba garden belonging to two orphans (Sahal and Suhail) under the guardianship of As'ad. Our Prophet ﷺ bought it at a very high price. It was the same place where As'ad used to gather the people on Friday before the Prophet's ﷺ arrival. -The masjid was not even built yet but Asad's throat became swollen causing extreme pain. People performed cauterization on him. -He died in Shawwal in the first year of Hijrah. The Prophet ﷺ washed him, wrapped him in three garments and performed his janazah. He was the first person to be buried in Jannat-ul-Baqi' and on whom janazah was performed. -Asad's daughters used to live amongst the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, after he placed away. -The Prophet ﷺ became the leader of Banu Najjar as though no one else was befitting of that position after Asad.

Iv got 70+ videos to make up for. Love stories like this. I'd love there to be a school near by for kids on weekends where stories like are being told. I've nothing against Spiderman but these are our real hero's and we know nothing about them.
Just like Ka’eb ibn Malik (RA) prayed for Asad Ibn Zurara (RA) every Friday saying “Allahuma forgive Asad…and have mercy on him, and be pleased with him” I found myself repeating it and extending it to Shaikh Omar Sulaiman specifically who’s storytelling is like no other, and every single person that helped bring this beautiful and powerful biography in this series to us across the world! I was in tears for most of it, especially reflecting on how young he was when he passed, and the impact he had even before living through integral parts of the Islam we practice like Ramadan! 💔 Jazakum Allah khair for this series!

Sheikh Omar, you've a great presentation and passion, if you would like to complete it with the following suggestions, to make a work that will never die: I wish if you narrate/perform a full English translation, of the Arabic Seerah of the messenger (PBUH), preformed by Dr Tariq Al Suwaidan / (طارق السويدان)، he is a famous Kuwaiti historian, Scholar and a book writer, that made a serie near 30 episode of the full Seerah, that is an excellent work of art, makes the listener travels back in time to live with messenger and a companions, feel and experience their reality, Joy, and sorrows, from the most authentic of sources, as well as he mentioned any narrations of it's possible weakness too (if there's). As well as he has series of all the companions and a full history of Islam, until the present day in great details. After experiencing the seerah by him, it's very hard for the listener to be satisfied with others works. (With respect to all our dear Scholars and Da'es/Who give Dawah/invitation). The Dr Suwaidan may speak English to a degree, which may make your communication with him easy. I hope you take my suggestions with a real consideration. Salam Alaikum
