Tackle Box Card

- When I first opened the Gone Fishing bundle, I knew that I wanted to make a tackle box card. And not just a flat card but a 3D project. So, I set out to create one.
For some of my videos, I only describe a project. But, when I do that, people always want more detail and actually see how I "built" it. So, this video is longer than most since I decided to show almost all of the process.
Hope you enjoy it and that it inspires you to create one of your own. I know that my Dad will be over the moon about this special card. He really loves fishing.
The magnets did come from a company called Total Element. The size is probably 1/4 x 1/32. They come in a wide variety of sizes and are great for paper projects. I have found them to be very strong magnets.

Losing a die is better than finding a die weeks or months later and you have no , no ,no idea what it is and to which set it belongs.. 😮. Loved your card.
Thank you, Lulu!! I can relate to your story! In trying to find the fishing lure die, I turned my Stamp Cut and Emboss machine upside and shook it. When I did- out popped a super tiny die that I have absolutely no idea where it came from.

What is the embossing folder you used fir the top of the tackle box? Where did you purchase the tiny magnets from? Love this card and I have a son up in northern Canada who loves to fish and even dies ice fishing in the winter?
Welcome to the Creative Treehouse! The embossing folder is the Twisted Rope 3D folder, which I believe recently retired. Another folder that would also work well would be the Cane Weave embossing folder.
The magnets come from a company called Total Element.

I LOVE this card, but a project sheet with the directions and measurements would be a huge help. I'm sitting here writing out the directions as I watch so i have something to refer to - hoping my notes make sense to me later!
You are the second person who has asked about directions and measurements. My Dad has the card now. But, I'll try to come up with some measurements and add them to my blog post. It will probably be a few days. But, I'll do my best.
Fantastic card! Definitely can those those lure dies as fast as your dad can lose a fish off the line. LOL
Thank you!! So, glad you stopped by the Treehouse. Yes, I was amazed how fast the lure die disappeared. Thankfully, I found it (after hours of looking. Even had my hubby take off the baseboards, thinking maybe it had slipped into that tiny crack between the top of the baseboards and wall. Not there). I bought a cheap shag rug that now helps keep the jumping dies from bouncing on the hardwood and ending up in strange, far away places. 😉
You need to get a magnetic bowl to put your dies in as your using them.
Thanks, Debbie. The problem seems to be that the dies "jump" off the machine or paper after having been cut. I've been looking for a magnetic mat to put on the floor to catch those high dive jumpers. So far, no luck.
But the good news is that the fishing lure die was found in a large storage bin full of plastic folders (containing scrap cardstock). Apparently, the lid was not completely on the tote, so the die jumped right in.

Yes, it will. 😀 it's a little smaller than the standard card size.
I am trying so hard to follow you on this to recreate it for my SIL’s birthday. At 20:18 you said you stamped in versa mark and embossed in silver. So I did precisely what you said. I stamped the fish then heat embossed with silver. I can’t see the ink color for the silver. What’s your technique? Cute card. Thanks.
Project sheets and a video is helpful when you want to make it at another time. I am glad I started following you. You are a great instructor and you make it easy to understand. If I like a project, I always look to see if they have a project sheet I can follow and I make a copy and store them in ring binders.
Stuck to machine?
I checked the machine. Found a tiny die that had been missing for quite some time. The tackle box die was finally found in a box of paper scraps that must have been open the slightest bit while I was die cutting.

Awesome card. Will this fit in a regular envelope or is it too thick?
Thank you! It is about the thickness of a shaker card. It well fit in a standard envelope. It will require the special "non machinable" stamp as it won't bend to go through the rollers. Other than that, it should go through the mail without a problem. 😊

Thank you, Kathleen! No, I didn't make a project sheet. Would it be easier to follow if you had some written instructions? I guess, I assumed that it would be easier to watch it being put together rather than to try to explain it with written directions. Maybe I should consider making a project sheet. 🤔
Absolutely love this card, you are a very good teacher. I lost a die and found it in my shoe days later. I saw where you found it in your paper scraps. They seem to have feet!

Thanks for stopping by the Treehouse, Sue! I'm happy to report that the fishing lure die was found! My husband even took the baseboards off trying to help me find it. It was finally found two days later in the bottom of a large plastic tote that holders sealed folders of paper scraps. I'm guessing that the lid on the tote must have been slightly open for the die to have jumped in there. Before that, I turned my Stamp Cut and Emboss machine upside down and found another die - a tiny one that I don't know which set it belongs to. The adventures of papercrafting. 😊

Thank you, Pam! It was such a fun card to make. My husband and I both searched through all the paper scraps in the trash container. I pulled out each piece checking for the die and he even ran his magnetic stick through the papers. Sadly, and surprisingly, the little die is still missing.

Thank you, Bettye! The magnets come from a company called Total Elements. I believe the size is 1/4 x 3/16 inches. They are strong magnets that work well on my papercrafting projects. There are lots of sizes to choose from on their site.
Somehow I always seem to end up with the wrong size magnets, they are always much too thick. Thank you for answering my question.

Thank you so much! I was able to go and visit with them and give the card to my dad even though it was early for Father's Day. It was more fun to be able to hand it to him instead of mailing it. He sweetly cares for my mom 24/7. He was able to arrange a fishing trip during my visit but did get to have lunch with the guys - a special treat and blessing.
