  • Flying a paraglider from Boulder to Wyoming!
    This has been a goal of mine ever since I started flying XC, and I was finally able to do it on my B wing. It really was the perfect day, and I was able to execute my flight plan almost exactly.
    This is a thermal-by-thermal walktrhough on how I did it, including some hoots and hollers along the way.

    I still have my Delight 2, in many ways I like it better than my Delight 3. Love this video, goes to show you it's not the wing it's the pilot. Really well made video, I can learn a lot from you.
    So, regarding oxygen, no sooner had my M6 and Easy Pulse 5 arrived that I got an offer for it from someone desperate for Oxy for RedRocks. So I made a tidy profit and decided to buy a Mountain High system with the small tank. But I really appreciate you providing the impetus for me to finally get one! Now I just need a day when I can get tall.

      Thanks!
      And that's awesome that you got to resell that system so quickly for a healthy profit!
      The MH system is definitely superior if you have the funds to spring for it. Enjoy!!

    Love the edit! Great flying! But mang that right side pulley twist drove me nuts the whole five minutes.

      Lol, I knew that would bother someone 😆
      It bothered me a bit while editing too! I had to topland 3 times before finally getting the cycle that took me out of there, so it was probably during all those shenanigans that I twisted it 😆

    Old timer here, REALLY enjoyed the flight, just wondering why you didn't land closer to a easy pick up point instead of what appears to be out in the middle of a field...thanks for posting.

      Thanks, glad you liked it!
      The field just looked like a nice place away from upwind obstructions and power lines. It was only a 10 minute walk or so to the highway as well :)

    Carl - Fantastic. Congratulations on a spectacular flight. As a sailplane pilot, I wouldn’t fly these days without ADS-B for collision avoidance. Is there a suitable solution for paragliders?

    • @CarlMarvin
      @CarlMarvin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At the moment, unfortunately there isn't, at least here in the US. Just see and avoid, which has been working thus far...
      FLARM-enabled devices are standard in Europe though, and as commercial UAVs start to make the air more crowded, I'm certain we'll have a similar implementation here in the US.

      Carl Marvin A few weeks ago I encountered a paraglider just west of BJC. I circled around him a couple times and let ATC know he was there. The controller said he could see him on radar, but I remain skeptical. He may have thought I was reporting a glider.
      Anyway, I’m in awe of your flights. I soar long distances too, but with a glide ratio of 51:1!

    • @CarlMarvin
      @CarlMarvin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rockymountainsoaring8576 Thanks! And yeah, we're definitely the lowest-performing aircraft out there. Main bonus is that we can carry our aircraft around in backpacks!
      I'd be suprised if anyone could see a paraglider on radar in a normal mode of operation. Not a whole lot of material there to reflect off of...I sure hope the paraglider wasn't in BJC airspace! We fly between Golden and Boulder quite a bit though, and the number of paraglider pilots on the front range has been exploding in the past couple years, so I'm sure you'll see more and more of us out there!

    What's (virga). Slang for Vertigo ?

    • @CarlMarvin
      @CarlMarvin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Virga is rain that evaporates before it reaches the ground. It can create expanding areas of extremely windy conditions (called outflow or gust fronts) which can be very dangerous for paragliders
