I watched this guy's interview to the end, and I admire his courage and perseverance. My advice to him is not to abandon his medicine career. He should do whatever it takes to get the medical license, and the sky will be the limit.

He should use the physician's directory in Alberta to filter out doctors in Edmonton who speak Ukrainian and see if any can give him any pointers.
Start doing some volunteer hours at the local hospital to get a feel of things to see which discipline of medicine he wants to practice.
The climb to becoming a doctor in Canada with foreign credentials is a steep climb, this is a protected profession and even getting residency slots are very competitive.
Canadians who don't qualify for medical school tend to head to the Caribbean and US schools. The ones from the Caribbean schools are not given any preference when they get back to Canada and eventually leave to practice in the US.
He may also want to try the US green card lottery just for the kicks.
