Most people think my Crossfire is a brand new car. I've got 27k miles on my 2004, and it has been a great car thus far. I'd love to try out an SRT6, though with the bigger wheels and stiffer chassis, I can't imagine it being all that comfortable. I bet it's faster than hell, though. Great work, gentlemen!
I've owned just over a 100 cars in 31 years of motoring. I've owned cars that cost 12x the cost of my 15 year old Crossfire, but the Crossfire remains my favourite car I've ever owned. The Crossfire worldwide community is second to none for friendliness, support and loyalty (our UK groups are truly a *family* of like-minded owners). The Crossfire can be summed by one terms: it's a motoring *enigma* .
I owned a the blue srt6. Had bought it with 1500 miles. An incredible car, the design was something I still haven't see yet till this day. It was garaged kept so it looked new. I could not go anywhere without someone coming up to me to ask about it. Sadly had to sell when wife lost her job. Now at 60yrs old and retired, I'm looking for another one. Same color, hoping to find one in mint condition and low miles. Of course it won't be easy as they get older, but I'm patient and hoping to find one. Great job guys!
This car is a 2004 and still looks better than 99% of 2014 cars in this segnent today. If you have not seen the Chrysler Firepower concept look it up. That car has lines that the porsche panamera and ferrari ff emulate today with the exception that the Firepower was a coupe concept. Chrysler still needs something sporty in its current line up
I still come back here to play this for people who don't know what my cars are. Thanks again. I own a roadster and coupe in the SRT version....I will drive them for a long time...
I hated everything about the merger, but I love the Crossfire. My hat's off to the design team at Chrysler for a job well done. I liked the part when they talked about how Mercedes made them under rate the SRT HP number. Now that the merger is history I would like to see these guys sit down and tell us everything that Mercedes would not let them do with the car. Couldn't let these Americans built a better Mercedes than Mercedes with their cast off platform. Oh yea they did anyway. Luv mine
Well put it this way.... I took my 15 year old completely stock Crossfire NA on a rolling road. It made 226bhp. A 15 year old car, with 110k miles, making 11bhp more than the claim for the new car! I suspect the NAs when new were around 235-240 and the SRT6 around 350-355bhp.
Had my Limited for 2 years now. I love this car. 55k miles on it so far, 135 mph top speed, new updated muffler and still clean inside and out! I look forward to a 2016 model.... So make one!
I bought a new red 04 limited, drove it 4 years trouble free,I missed it so much I found a 06 with only 25k.This one is a 6spd. black on black lots of fun with the stick.People love it,owners of other Sports cars always look at it,but when they see that it's a Chrysler they stick their noses in the air(smug snobs).
The SRT6 is a 17 year old car now and is going to be a sleeper for a while. I can almost guarantee its going to be a classic and a very valuable car in the years ahead. Kudos to anyone who has one in their garage, just don't sell it!
I love my SRT6, I have 68,XXX miles on it, and I will continue to drive it everyday. I take very good care of it, however, I actually drive my car, unlike many other people. To this day, I think it is one of the best looking cars of its time and in its class. Also, it is probably the most performance oriented car you can get for $20K used these days. Bravo!
I love my Sapphire Silver Blue SRT-6, thanks for building it. It was funny how the engineer called out daimler's marketing move to under rate the SRT-6 horsepower compared to Benz's.
Like mine biggest problem is the seal between window and the canvas convertible top. Reapaired 3 time nothing holds just seperates . Any ideas how to fix.
so i have a question for a xfire owner.. tell me about it.. expenses.. things like that. gas mileage, insurance, finding parts.. also.. if i purchase the 6 speed limited model (non srt) could i possibly buy the superchager, rims and front bumper somewhere?
Hi. I have been looking to buying an SRT 6. I have noticed the appearance of the motor is different in the earlier models to the motor at the end of model..I wonder if you can tell me if there is anything in favor of one over the other. Also any input on convertibles vs coups. Someone said the convertible was the pick(a smoother ride) but I worry about the availability of a replacement top in the future.I live in Tasmania winters are around 0C so maybe too cold. Any thoughts please let me know.
I have a Graphite Grey SRT-6 coupe and my girlfriend has a Classic Yellow Limited roadster. We wouldn't part with them for the world! If anything, we still want another SRT-6 roadster to top it all off.
The biggest misconception about the Crossfire is that the car was nothing more than a re-skinned MB SLK. The development team did an outstanding job making the Crossfire a wonder car to look at but, more importantly a better driving and handling car than the original SLK. The roadster development alone involved a great deal of CHRYSLER r+d to turn a hardtop convertible into a soft top. Mercedes sole purpose in the so called merger of equals was to suck the money out of Chrysler and move on.
I have looked every where for an answer for that and come up empty. It seems to have room in the motor but idk for sure. It gets around 23 mpg and insurance isnt as bad as I thought. Around 100 a month but its fun to drive and if you get itc tuned like mine it will be getting around 5.3 to 60
I have been looking to buying an SRT 6. I have noticed the appearance of the motor is different in the earlier models to the motor in this clip. If anyone can tell me if there is a disadvantage with the earlier supercharged motors vs end of line model. Also any input on convertibles vs coups. Someone said the convertible was the pick(a smoother ride) but I worry about the availability of a replacement top in the future. Any thoughts please let me know.
I get I’m 7 years late on this answer, and it’s because the car in the video is from Needswings. They sell a lot of aftermarket performance parts for the car.
I have a black SRT6 2005 model i was wondreing if anyone would be able thell me how many of these where imported in to Australia , i love it cheers Robert
The sad part about this car is , Mercedes Killed it once they split with Chrysler because the electronic parts are now impossible to get. If the Skreem or key is lost or fails you are in big trouble. Because the parts are no where to be found. And when you can find them they are very expensive and only Vin related . So no random Skreem or key will work . You must buy the whole computer and skreem and key and have the vin number of the old car. If it works ? Mercedes should build a bypass for these old cars . The security on these is over kill. Because it is a Chrysler Vin number you cannot get electronic parts as of now with no ETA of parts available they keep pushing it back further and further which don't look good. . If it had a Mercedes Vin number parts are available like Skreem and flip keys not for Chrysler . If you buy a brand new kit from Ebay you must have it scanned by a special scanner Which no one seems to have. If your skreem fails you are screwed from what I am reading on the Crossfire forums. Fiat Chrysler will not work on these Neither will Mercedes because it takes a special scanner device that no one has these Special scanners now. I love my Crossfire but it scares me since it could possibly fail at any moment with no way of fixing it . You can buy any mechanical part from many aftermarket manufacturers but none for the electronics. That is why these cars are so cheap . The prices have fallen . With no support from anyone I don't feel comfortable driving to far from my home. Unless I have been misinformed ?? Best of luck to anyone having trouble
They used the older R170 SLK chassis because it was more primordially sporty than the later R171 platform (have you not noticed how Mercedes cars have become 'softer' over the decades. Why do you think people worship Mark I, original Mazda Miatas and pay $15k+ for 26 year old perfect examples, when the new Miatas are pretty distained and have none of the handling or driver pleasure of the originals. As for the engine, the latest Mercedes 350 V6 unit is almost identical to the 320 engines, save for some power-eating emissions controls additions. You should learn about true drivers cars before offering views that just make you look like someone who knows nothing about motoring lol!
@@droge192 also a lot of people slam the recirculating ball steering on r170 compared to the R171 rack and pinion. No one would ever know unless you told them either. The greatest generation BMW M5’s had recirculating ball steering as well yet you never here anyone gripe about it.
Fantastic on the outside...love it. However, I think the interior was and is a real disappointment. All that cheap looking silver plastic not only looks bad but as the car gets older it starts to creak and look even worse. Just wish they could have spent a bit more time and just a few dollars more to make it look and feel better. To me it's hard to ignore the "Dodge Neon" look and feel inside.
If you look at Edmunds or Kelly Blue Book you will find that the IDENTICAL Mercedes is almost 1/3rd more expensive than a Crossfire from the same year. I'd rather have the Chrysler because it is a rarity. Of course it IS nice to say; "I own a Mercedes"...

randy109 slk32 amg and c32 amg the exact same engine are all under $13k buddy so what are you talking about? lol don't compare a high end mercedes with a Chrysler when it doesn't even have the sane engine lol.
matt Reilly I was under the the impression we were talking about the regular not srt6 yes I know that otherwise I wouldn't be where I'm at today. If we are talking about the srt6 the interior and quality of the build is different. Your 100% correct though about the engine. I didnt know the Chasis was the same though
These guys nailed it. The SRT-6 is absolutely beautiful.
These guys did a great job. I have a limited and I get people saying how cool it looks all the time
People always love my Chrysler crossfire it truly has a classic timeless design amazing car I love it people always turn heads
Just got a 2005 srt6 roadster. Black on black. It’s amazing

Fun fact the srt6 crossfire uses a Garrett air to water intercooler made in Mexico with the worst welds ever done

I just bought an 04 Limited a week ago and love it. 👍

7:10 so what you’re saying is that its under rated on the HP, thats even better. Makes it more of a sleeper
Had my Limited for 2 years now. I love this car. 55k miles on it so far, 135 mph top speed, new updated muffler and still clean inside and out! I look forward to a 2016 model.... So make one!
Beautiful car
Bring crossfire back I love mine
I own a 05 Limited Roadster and I love it. Not an SRT but I wish it was

Love my Xfire, so underated and wonderful car. Thanks for it.
Got mine for less than 15k, best car I've ever driven, it's a beast.
I love my Sapphire Silver Blue SRT-6, thanks for building it. It was funny how the engineer called out daimler's marketing move to under rate the SRT-6 horsepower compared to Benz's.

im hoping to buy a 2005 XFire SRT6 this month. gonna try to test drive it tomorrow.
That's the NeedsWings SRT6 in the video... WOO-HOO!!! HOTTTTT!!!!
so i have a question for a xfire owner.. tell me about it.. expenses.. things like that. gas mileage, insurance, finding parts.. also.. if i purchase the 6 speed limited model (non srt) could i possibly buy the superchager, rims and front bumper somewhere?
I'd LOVE to have the M4S in the background. I'd take an SRT6 though...
love it, had 2 in the past, but I always thought the car was too small, and they should have let loose on it more... too button upped and subdued.

Basically an old slk with the old Mercedes c32 amg engine
0812rs basically you are wrong. Drive them both. SRT is a lot better handling car.

If only it was available with a 6 speed manual transmission...
less talk more pics of the car pls
Lubie
Love the car. But the cheap looking silver interior was something different. Also the wing on back ...too large.
Work on the steering and brake pedal feel more next time lol. That's the only thing that should have been dumped from the r170 platform.
Should've had a manual.

You sound like an envious 11 year old lol! There are 1000s of Crossfires in the UK alone, and we're a relatively small country. Muppet!
@ 1993spirit LOL! You probably drive a FWD car or a SUV or minivan.
should of put a v8 in it
im just being honest. that hood is FUGLY. lol
