I am not Orthodox. I am Roman Catholic.
I have to say how very moving and beautiful this explanation is of Holy Confession.
How I wish this was the case in my Church in every respect.
I have actually been turned away without absolution because the priest doubted my sincerity or contrition. It is devestating.
And yet I feel bound to the Church and to our Lord.
Thanks again for this video and for the light it brings my heart.

I'm confused. Our we to confess aloud or silent?

Aloud...in the content it is always the same with Orthodox, but the more subtle forms may be different, as some Priests may not require you saying the prayer aloud before you confess. I'm orthodox and I travel a lot for work, so I go to different Orthodox churches while on the road. It's always cleansing.

Aloud. First, the priest can only forgive sins he has heard. Second, the scriptures tell us to confess to one another. When we confess to the Priest, who hears on behalf of the Church, we are confessing to the Church that we brought sin into the body of Christ.

So I was baptized in the Orthodox Church and raised in the Orthodox Church, in fact the priest was my god father at this Orthodox Church. Believe it or not, somehow as I become an adult I knew nothing about the Orthodox Church. No history, what the choir was singing with the chanters we're saying and even the priest because they were speaking in a different language. After I was married the first two children were baptized in the Orthodox Church my wife at the time put her foot down, so to speak and refuse to let our third child be baptized. She was Baptists and at that time I had accepted Christ I don't have been baptized in the Orthodox Church and was literally clinging to something I didn't understand nor could I explain. So I was saved in the Baptist Church and I gave a full confession to this Baptist preacher and I mean I told all. So I definitely understand the burden this crease in the video explains being lifted. I guess the problem is when I was seeking I was in the hands of the Protestant Community where once saved always saved and work seem to be of Satan versus The Commandments of Christ so I have a lot of backsliding cuz that I did just us not work and it's easier to Fall Away. So rather than a confession ever so often I have a decade to account for I'm not looking forward to that, even though I remember the burden lifted the first time what had me confused was when I was in the Orthodox Church I was never asked to give a confession allowed I always did it in silence as the priest prayed

There is comfort in knowing the Church has authority given by God to ACTUALLY forgive sin. That is the gift of Holy Confession.

We sin throughout ea day so without regular confession of sin, the promise of continual cleansing is rendered null and void resulting in broken fellowship. "If we confess our sins, 'HE' is faithful & just to forgive us our sins & to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1Jn1:9. In Mt 27:51 when Christ died on the cross "The veil was rent from top to bottom" signifying that no longer was a priest needed for 'confession that formally only one priest was allowed to present to God. Mk 2:7 "Who can forgive sins but God only?" Christ opened the door to the Throneroom of Grace where GOD said we may come at anytime, including confession. God doesn't want to wait a (RCC MONTH), to hear from a confession, he asks for immediate repentance. If I stole from u would u wait a month? Proof that ONLY GOD can forgive sin: Mt 6:14 "For if u forgive other people when they sin against u, ur heavenly 'Father' will also forgive u". Eph 4:32 "Be kind & compassionate to one another, forgiving even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you", Col 3:13 "Bear w/each othEr & forgive one another if any of u has a grievance against someone. Forgive AS the LORD forgave u", 1Sam2:25 “If one man sins against another, GOD will mediate for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?” “For there is one God, and ONE mediator also between God & men, the man Christ Jesus” 1 Tim. 2:5 God desires a 'relationship' w/ea of 'us', God never mentions a go-between-priest in scripture. 'WE' are now the Temple where God lives IN 'us' so we don't need a 'eucharist' that the RCC claims is God. God is Omnipresent in ALL of HIS CHURCH - the BELIEVERS, not just in a cement building. "Do you not know that you are God'sTemple and that God's Spirit dwells in you"? 1Cor3:16. Do u not realize that the 'sacraments' are meant to trick u into believing u can't please God or enter Heaven unless you remain a member of the RCC? Wake up! You already have everything within u as a Believer in Christ! `How long will u remain a seeker of man's religion instead of a seeker of God & HIS teachings & truth? And you, sir, teach a false Gospel that millions are led away from God from thinking, speaking & doing what u falsely teach. Shame on you for contradicting GOD.

Thank you for your comments, but we are NOT RCC. Nothing is this sermon suggests that we are FORCED into Confession, only to say that clergy have been given the authority by God to forgive sins. Why wouldn't anyone want to take advantage of that authority?
