A capacity of 3.5 million containers per year? Forget about it ! You're probably one of many who don't know the difference between TEU and containers. Nearly all containers are 40ft, so the figure would be 1.75 million per year. But even that figure is ludicrous. The largest train imaginable cannot carry more than 240 40 ft containers, and only in ideal circumstances (perfectly flat terrain, double stacking), but the road to Turkey would involve height differences, tunnels, etc. , therefore each train would carry max. 100 containers, not more. You would need 17500 trains per year, or nearly 50 trains per day. The train ride would be very expensive, and there would be 2 container transfers, adding to the cost and causing extra delays. 7:49 Faster alternative?? You must be kidding. Last but not least it's easy for Egypt to cripple any competitor by lowering the price for a few years. The price level has always been set just below the nearest competitor.

A medium size ship will carry 12,000 containers and a suezmax carries 24,000 containers. How may train trips to move one ship ? 50-100 train trips for each ship. So it’s unrealistic. No land shipping can compete with maritime shipping. Sorry to break your Heart.
I seriously doubt it's only going to cost 17 billion. Second, if you want high speed trains to use the same track as freight, you will seriously hamper both. Further more, on- and offloading takes time. And time is money in the world of shipping. I doubt they can off load cargo in Iraq, train it to turkey, and load it on a ship, and hope to be faster then simply floating it through the Suez canal. Not to mention the cost in carbon credits. Shipping being one of the forms of transportation that are for the most part being exempt from environmental measures, and power production in Iraq not being exactly carbon neutral by any standard. Also, the straits of Hormuz is already one of the most dangerous waterways in the world, bordering on plenty of nations with issues with one another. This whole project would be great if handled well, but with the nations currently involved, it appears as one more pipe dream by silly Arabs with more money then brains.

I think Indians are a little emotional about this IMEC project and cannot accept how ridiculous the project is, but in my opinion, this IMEC is nothing but the carrot that US uses to deceive India and it will never happen. Going through the Straight of Hormuz is a really bad idea! A megaport should be built on the southern coast of Oman with a specialized freight line connecting it to Turkey. This is a much safer option.
Building a railway on the desert is both very costly and due to reasons such as the high temperature difference between day and night in the deserts and sand winds, the railways need to be built in accordance with these conditions and regularly maintained.
Oman is a country of plateaus and mountains, and behind them are deserts. It is very difficult to build roads and railways in deserts, with temperatures reaching 60 degrees Celsius in summer.
You mean building a rail line that's 3 times longer, starting in the rugged mountains of Oman, going through the boiling desert of Saudi Arabia, passing through Iraq all the way to Turkey, just to avoid the Strait of Hormuz? Why is that? The current project is expected to be finished in about 25 years. Your idea would take double or triple the time and effort.
An Iraq-Turkey railway or modern highway would still require commercial ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Under the present theocratic authoritarian state in Iran the entrance/exit to the Persian Gulf could be easily blocked at Iran’s whim. It would be much cheaper to just help Egypt to widen the Suez Canal or even dig a second canal parallel to the present canal allowing for constant two-way traffic.
This will not work, it cost too much time. There is a reason why Goods from China go via Panama Canal to East Coast than unload in LA to be trucked or trained to NY.

Almost 70 percent of Kurdistan is houses built by Turkish construction companies. 3) The presence of Turkish electricity companies in northern Iraq. 4) Barzani family rules Kurdistan, you can also look at the assets of this family in Turkey. Northern Iraqi Kurdistan is one of Turkey's allies. You can find diplomatic relations very easily. Iraq even filed a lawsuit over the oil trade between northern Iraqi Kurdistan and Turkey. please don't be ignorant
I think events in Syria have cganged the picture. You can have a railway up iraq and across syrua to the Mediterranean. Bypassing huge turkush mountains. Although southwest turkey would still benefit. Iraqi oil and large populations could make manufacturing work. Transit would still go via Suez. However they would capture some if the cargo going through syez to syrua and southen turkey.
Any "trade route" that uses rail or road will be more expensive than purely waterborne traffic. This has been true since the dawn of time. A reasonably modern rail system will be at least three times more expensive than waterborne traffic. This gap can be even larger when taking into account bulk materials. In addition, add in the cost of changing mode of transportation and I think any detailed analysis will show that this is just another stunt.

They are at a disadvantage if Southern Suadi and Iran develop rail lines because huge ships may drop any goods there so they can keep moving in the Indian Ocean, but until then this port should be major.

@@strangelylookingperson Turkey did not allow American troops to pass through its territory during the occupation. The US 4th Infantry Division is an example of this.
Moreover, rivers originate in Turkey and its geographical structure is suitable for dam construction. There is no need to get permission from anyone for this. Because it has the right of use. It sends the amount it has the legal right to to neighbouring countries.
I'll be positive, the money is there and the need for a second corridor is there. I hope it all works out and this could be a stabilizer for Iraq. I think Turkiye is going to be a major player moving forward in the ME and Africa.
and if there's a realistic second corridor, the monopoly of the suez canal will be broken
(same goes for the panama canal) and with that comes price competition between the corridors which will eventually trickle down to consumers (that's us) and thats a win

Containers owned by a ship that will dock at Iraqi ports through this corridor. It will have the capacity to go to all of Russia and Europe with a single train transfer. A container train departing from Basra will reach Turkey in less than 1 day and reach the border of Greece and Bulgaria in 2 days. and these trains are fully electric, so transportation costs will become cheaper than ships. It's a much shorter way.
Much faster.

Look at the us railway system for intermodal container transport
You are acting as if only one train will be on the track at any one time. Instead there will be multiple trains and some stop and go as trains have to come on and off as containers have to be offloaded and onboarded at points along the way. Keep that in mind.

Mexico has the same plan to circumvent the Panama canal, Mexico's plan just may work, but the US can already do this with existing railroads by unloading on the west coast and ship to the east coast

There is anti-Israel sentiment and there are protests and street events every day. Even assuming it solves the security problems and all countries come together, the project itself is very costly and ridiculous inefficent. If a product produced in India goes from India to Europe via Iraq, the use only 2 ports Turkiye is much shorter in distance, whereas if you use IMEC you has to use 4 ports it has to load and unload tons of cargo each time in each port, this doesn't make any sense in terms of both time and efficiency. I think Indians are a little emotional about this IMEC project and cannot accept how ridiculous the project is, but in my opinion, this IMEC is nothing but the carrot that US uses to deceive India and it will never happen.
Even without IMEC, India can easily bilateral trade with the Gulf countries, for such a large and extremely costly project in desert, the return is very low. Although the North-South Corridor between Russia and India is 10 times more important and logical for India's national interests than this IMEC corridor, there is the opportunity to access new markets and rich resources through this corridor and compete with China in this region. @@SDRsUnited Also look at the map and learn geography. It is useful
Well, at least it wasn't generated by an AI generated voice, and the visuals were relevant to what was said, so it gets a like.
Connect turkey Oman? How? It will have to go thru iraq or go around all the region to come to turkey
Oman is a country of plateaus and mountains, and behind them are deserts. It is very difficult to build roads and railways in deserts, with temperatures reaching 60 degrees Celsius in summer.
Iraq has the advantage in this because it is the owner of the land
Egypt is already doing that by its own.
Do you have any problem with Iran ?
Also Iran has huge influence in the region especially in Iraq !
the only sensible comment in this section lol..
عاش العراق 🇮🇶❤️🇮🇶❤️🇮🇶❤️
This will not work, it cost too much time.
There is a reason why Goods from China go via Panama Canal to East Coast than unload in LA to be trucked or trained to NY.
A lot of double-stack container trains do run west to east across the USA at present. I must presume e > w is mostly return empties?
Thats not turkey’s map. Parts are missing and there is this weird red strip at the bottom.
Turkey is not a choice… what about Kurdishstan (north Iraq) and the Kurdish occupied territories in turkey?
My friend, you are so ignorant that you only believe what you hear in the western media. Don't be a bit stupid and look up the information on TH-cam and Google that one of the biggest allies of Northern Kurdistan is Turkey. You can research the following and find out what the truth is: 1) Northern Iraqi Kurdistan sells its oil mostly to Turkey. 2) Turkish construction companies in northern Iraqi Kurdistan.
I'm in need of your prayers and positive energy. Please keep me in your thoughts.
LOL!!!!!!! Nuff said!!!
Good one
Iraq Sriya Lebanon should make new trade route for global & develop self
I'm waiting foe this project to be a reality.
No one will replace the canal
It is better to build a second canal farther west entirely. Replace the train concept with new canal and you have a plan
When in the Middle East are invented multiple The Lines
Any "trade route" that uses rail or road will be more expensive than purely waterborne traffic. This has been true since the dawn of time. A reasonably modern rail system will be at least three times more expensive than waterborne traffic. This gap can be even larger when taking into account bulk materials.
In addition, add in the cost of changing mode of transportation and I think any detailed analysis will show that this is just another stunt.
