      Uh I would say no, they made the Buzz specifically for Nate Doss and thanks to that the Wasp is only in Z for Production Runs. Also they made for Ricky the Compass in the offseason as the Latude 64 made brands did not have much for midrange discs but that was a disc just like a low to no dome Wasp in lesser plastics but more variety of plastics for full production runs.

      It's funny. Guess what mid ranges Paul will throw? The mid ranges that Discraft has.
      Totally worth it to see him throw them and comment. But there is no choice.
      No Roc and no Nova. This is going to be an interesting year.

      I'd say he will go Wasp and Buzzz, then Drone for Utility when he can't use a Zone.

    Is this the same guy I saw years ago in the glorious vid explaining his beginnings... how he was shy and took to disc golf... he was shy and yet so authentic in that video that I became an ardent fan of his. So much of a fan that I have watched the "best round ever?" video in which he shot minus 18 on course that is right behind my house somehow thinking it is special when it is just me being selfish to see the best ever throw one of his best on a home course of mine like a hundred times. The cat in the video is so polished, so, oh "professional". My has he matured. Oh I adore the "real" guy of the past. Equally delighted to see the maturation and development and so, so, so hope guys like this are getting paid for the sacrifices they made to get to this type of a pinnacle.

    I am not a pro, but as an intermediate rec player, I have always loved the Buzzz backhanded for in the woods straight shots, annies, and moderate hyzers. Other than the Stalker and hyzerflipped Heat, it is super straight out to 290-310 FT. I love the Buzzz OS for forehand straight shots and FH or BH flex lines. Because, as a rec player, I get in jams ALL THE TIME LOL, I also love the Buzzzes for reverse-curl bicep rollers back out onto the fairway. Good Luck to you, Paul! And, thank you, Jomez for bringing us cool coverage on disc-testing/bag-building from a pro! Great stuff!

    My favorite Discraft midrange? First-run Z-Buzzz, for sure. I still have three of them; 1 thrower, and two pristine!

  • @grahamwhite2003
    @grahamwhite2003 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I have been throwing (almost) exclusively Discraft for the last 8 years now and at the same time have watched (nearly) all of your rounds that have been uploaded to TH-cam. Due to the countless amount of time that I have spent on these now "colliding" subjects I hope that my following two cents will make sense to you.
    So, you picked some great stable mids (Buzzz/OS/ss & Wasp) and you will have fun with the Drone for utility shots and (heavy) wind. That being said I have several mold recommendations that you may want to consider for comparison.
    First, the Hornet is similar to the Wasp/Buzzz OS for the first 70-80% of its flight but finishes with much more 'glide' and therefore far less 'low speed fade.' This unique characteristic increases its effective range by about 10-15% over the Wasp/Buzzz OS. The shot that I often see you throw between 300 and 350 feet is a power hyzer playing for a strait skip off the left edge. The hole that comes to mind is number 8 at DeLaveaga OG. I think that you would opt for the Wasp off the tee looking for the play off the 'R to L' slope but as it begins to lose its glide and fade left it will tend to either anti-skip too far right or skip left OB (probably between the logs). The Hornet will retain more glide throughout its flight and tend to only expose just enough rim to continue strait after the skip. Also it has no bead, low profile and clean feeling inner rim. I recommend finding it in ESP between 170-172 g for best results.
    Second, the Meteor is comparable to the Comet in that they both are high glide understable mids but the meteor will 'flip' much slower throughout its flight. This results in the Meteor having a naturally late turnover which is useful for long continuous annies or low ceiling tunnel shots. Comets tend to have a large 'high speed turn' so that in the first 50-60 feet it covers nearly all of its intended turn. After the initial 'flip' it quickly stabilizes to its natural flight by continuing to annie on a somewhat direct path. This results in the comet being angle sensitive and in my own opinion a bit "squirrely." With the Meteor's more gradual turn that is 'rounded-out' flight I believe that you will find it to be less touchy and more forgiving in the woods vs. the Comet. It also has a low profile, soft edges, and is fantastic for forehand touch shots (especially high annie forehands around groups of trees tight on your left). I recommend finding it in 177+ g GLO Z FLX for best results. If not that then ESP over Z all day.
    BTW any putters or mids in FLX plastic will quickly beat in then stay the same from that point on due to the way it absorbs impact (i.e. trees, chains, curbs, etc.) vs. more stiff plastic. Good luck with the coming season.

      When I was throwing Discraft I was a big fan of the Cryztal meteors. They had a bit more stability then their z and esp counterparts. I could put it on a bit of a hyzer and it would either fly dead straight or have a gentle turn but it wouldn't turn and burn.

  • @infinimetrical
    @infinimetrical 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    First Discraft disc I bought years ago was a Limited Edition Cryztal Flx Buzz in the neon green color. It's smooth texture works great for skipping off of wet grass. And it's great for making sharp hyzer shots around trees. It's deep rim is also flick friendly making it great for control shots. It putts well, as well.

      Esp-flx is awesome! I think tehy ran out of the material used for the old esp, so they couldnt make it anymore. And they had Z-flx out at that point, replacing it. I like Z-flx too, but i loved Esp-flx more :D It had just the right flex and a suuuuper grip to go with it!

    • @matthewallenblack

      Man. Yeah. I cycled flat DX Glow Rocs for the longest time, but the ESP FLX Buzzz ended up stealing the "beat-in Roc" spot while I had it. (May it rest in peace...wherever it ended up when a cousin-in-law hucked it into some really deep bramble...) It flew like a turbo Comet for me. If they brought back that plastic, my bag would have another Discraft mold in it for sure.

    Try out the Archer. I’ve only thrown a Big Z version, and it is understable. I learned to throw it with a hyper flip and it has a really unique flight that way, with a lot of glide for a surprising distance. I think it’s classified as a driver, but it has the feel of a midrange disc. If you get the hang of the Comet or even the Meteor, the Archer feels very similar to those discs in the hand. My favorite midrange disc from Discraft is still the Buzzz, while I am getting more used to the Buzzz SS and more recently working in the Buzzz OS. After seeing this showcase with Paul, I’m eager to try out the Drone and Wasp!

    I have a variety of drivers from different manufacturers, but midrange and below is all DC. I pack a buzzz OS, 2 buzzzes at different weights and plastics and a buzzz SS. I also have probably 10 jawbreaker challengers. 173’s for my putting discs and 175’s for windy days. SS for playing in the woods up shots and OS for driving. I have never felt a more comfortable putter than the challenger. Slightly overstable. Very predictable and jawbreaker plastic gives you amazing grip without sacrificing the predictability. I absolutely love Discraft in my shorter game.

    I think the Meteor is an interesting disc Paul McBeth if you like the beaded discs. Meteor is like the SS Buzz but broken in just a tad to fly more understable. Meteor comes in ESP and Z plastic for its Production runs. THE X plastic Comet is also money especially the domed versions for a slower short short midrange to very long approach shot one would not want to putt off of.

    Definitely try out the Meteor. It’s under stable so it’ll hold ani lines really well but at the same time really isn’t that flippy and has great glide. At least in my experience, it doesn’t really flip it just has a late slow turn that is great for woods shots or it can hold any line if you power it down.

    I hope we get Paul’s thoughts on the Luna Proto vs Mcpro’s next week, as well as an in-depth look at the Luna itself. My money is on a Z Flx Zone also making his bag, and my wildcard is a Soft or Pro-D Magnet.

    I bag a Comet and Buzz SS and really like both of them. Have been in my bag for over two years.

      Not for my noodle arm. Buzz SS goes straight with a slight fade at the end for me. I am able to get a little turn out of my Comet and it can hold an anney if I start it turned over.

    Are you able to use DGA discs? The Quake is amazing for an overstable mid

    I'm one of the few, buzzz gt over the buzzz ss and the comet. I'll lend you my first run gt next time your in Wixom. Its a solid utility mid and also true to any line if you can handle the feel.

    Give the stratus x a try. I've been throwing it for about 20 years, I can't buy enough of these because I keep giving them away! Great roller and anhyzer flight as well as perfectly straight if you so choose. Would be curious to see one in an esp plastic...

      Yes, they had others in the past like first grippy all weather plastic that is as tough as the Z or Champion being ESP but that was well over 10 years ago.

    Z Wasp is an awesome disc, canned a fairway birdie once on a full hyzer line. Gonna have to grab one again now lol

    I love the Wasp,Buzzz, and Buzzz SS. I lost my Wasp and replaced it with Moonshine EMAC Truth, though. I will never give up the SS, it's an old Emac SS and it is the perfect woods and turnover disc.

    I like Discraft, but all my mids are Prodigy. Ty for the demo Paul and Jomez.
