Restoring a fortepiano for the Carl Bechstein Foundation. 7. Soundboard, the heart of the piano

The soundboard is the heart of the instrument, it defines the quality of the sound.
After it’s taken out of the piano, everything is being measured and a detailed drawing is being made.
Since 2019 the Carl Bechstein Foundation in Berlin is building up a collection of historical keyboard instruments, reflecting the history of the piano. All instruments will be in perfect playing condition and in this film-series you'll see the whole proces of a restoration, starting from a total wreck. This fortepiano was built around 1795 in Vienna by Ferdinand Hofmann (1756-1829).
From this restoration film series are two versions, one with a German voice-over and this one with an English voice-over.
