When I saw the title I was like OK is it Olivia or Rush? Woo hoo I was hoping for this one lol. Not that I wouldn't have enjoyed the latter. I was having childhood flash backs a few years ago and decided to watch the movie again. Fun and I really like that one particular run that kind of sounds dissident compared to the rest of the song. Interesting choice he used for a bass line. Thanks Troy you know how much I love happy fun uplifting music lol. Also holy cow I didn't know she passed.
I'm glad I did not disappoint you. Many others were not as pleased. I think I know what riff you are talking about, but a timestamp would help. I really struggles with some of the notes during the descending part of the verse, but I think I got them right. Just for fun, you should check out the Jeff Lynne version of the song. It's a bit streamlined, when compared to this version.

If I do go back and re-do some older Rush songs, Xanadu will definitely be one of them. I remember a few of her albums floating around the apartment when I was a kid and she was easy on the eyes. The reason I went with 3113 was because when I had to create an email account for my channel, every single combination I came up with that had a 2112 in it was taken... every single one. So, I went with 3113 as a nod to my fondness for Halloween and Horror in general. Thanks and take care!

Great job Troy. Definitely an under appreciated bassline, I think because the entire production is so outstanding and the coda of that tune is pop perfection. There are a few TH-cam clips of her performing Xanadu live that are very charming. In the 80s, Olivia owned an Aussie-themed gift shop/café in Hollywood called Koala Blue. I met her there once while having an iced coffee. I think she might have been the first celebrity I ever met. She was 100% as nice and lovely as you could imagine.

I saw them on the Perfect Strangers tour in 1984. All the original members were there, sorta. I always thought Ian Gillian was the original singer, but no. The first singer was David Coverdale. I thought I was going to be listening to trippy lyrics based on Samuel Taylor Coleridge poetry. Instead, I’m hearing what sounds like Olivia Newton John singing an ELO song.
Thanks for checking it out anyway. I can and do set up my own basses, but I didn't learn how to do it until I was in my late 20's. Just the basics - truss rod adjustment, action, intonation... No electronics, fretwork, or anything like that. If I bring a bass to Joe Kruse to have work done, I'll usually have him do a set up while he's got it. My settings are a little unorthodox and Joe knows exactly how I like it.
I collect them and other, horror related, items. Most of the masks are "display copies" which means that they do not have breathing or vision holes cut into them, though a couple of them do.
Thats not Geddy singing! The notes are way to low. Who knew this alternative Xanadu version was so melodic? Did I mention I had a huge crush on Olivia back in high school? Don't tell anyone Troy! It can be our secret.
Out of all the basses I've had, my two favorites are the Sunburst Spector Legend and the Mahogany Build B-301. You'll see me playing the bass in this video (MBJ Guitars) and another one quite a bit. Both of these basses are based on (pickups and electronics) my two favorite instruments. I really don't have anything good to say about Rickenbackers.

I've been wondering quite some times, what's with those mask behind you all about. Do you wear them?
I collect them and other, horror related, items. Most of the masks are "display copies" which means that they do not have breathing or vision holes cut into them, though a couple of them do.

What is your goto bass, Ricky??
Out of all the basses I've had, my two favorites are the Sunburst Spector Legend and the Mahogany Build B-301. You'll see me playing the bass in this video (MBJ Guitars) and another one quite a bit. Both of these basses are based on (pickups and electronics) my two favorite instruments. I really don't have anything good to say about Rickenbackers.
