Just picked up the game and wanted to watch some play on youtube and Leffen's video showed up recommended. First minute was just "This sucks, that sucks, this is ugly" so I left and this is the very next video I watched and the first minute is "Leffen stop whining" lmao
I think it all has to do with input buffering. We are conditioned to buffer our inputs from so many games that it becomes intuitive to do it. Melee has no buffer, so it "feels" less intuitive because people aren't used to that.
Rivals II everything just works. Don't have to time wavedashes, no L-Cancels. Execution-wise it's EZmode Melee. Not a bad thing, I enjoy it quite a lot.
I'm so glad melee and ult players are playing this. I have to wait for a console release to start playing, but it shows how nice the game is too play coming from either. And the fact that the skill celling is quite high and it's not outrageously priced makes me think this platform fighter is gonna be the next big.
@@sogga_fanno other platform fighter has released with this sort of praise since Ultimate. Multiverses flopped and brawlhalla is it’s own thing. So pretty much the only active game in the genre rn
I think the word you are looking for is transferable. If you’ve played rivals 1/ultimate/PM/melee/NASB/MVS your skills should transfer, to some degree. Especially since this game is built to be beginner friendly by design as you were saying to start the video. Absolutely LOVE to see everyone playing this!
@@geoffreyprecht2410 going back and watching it again it’s not very visually clear. I wonder if that will be a complaint and if the shine graphics will be changed at all later. The thumbnail is mega clickbait though, Zetterburn shine is nowhere near as broken as Fox shine lol
There are two big things that makes this game easier to pick up than melee: one is a buffer system, as much as the ult buffer system sucks it still makes the game 10x easier to learn when your starting out, and the second one is that the movement mechanics are fully intended and not exploits like they are in melee. For example, To get a max length wavedash in rivals, you just do a horizontal angle, to balance this you can simply make characters have higher traction than they do in melee, now you have the ability to do the same movement as melee but it’s more accessible to newer players, you still have the same depth were you can use angles to space yourself differently if you don’t want max length, but new players can access max langth without risking failing them all the time. I haven’t confirmed it but I assume sheild drops are way easier, and maybe the normal drop though platform isn’t any different from sheild dropping, I mean it’s kinda cool that sheild dropping in melee is so much faster but I don’t see how it really adds to the experience, fixing little stuff like that turns the game from melee to melee but I can still move around without tons of practice. Melee when you’re bad at the game feels so slow and clunky-I should know I’ve only been playing for ~10 months-but it’s so fast when you get good, and that’s because it’s speed is half an accident, I mean smash 64 id almost as fast as melee from a game engine standpoint, sure you can’t launch yourself when you jump out of a run but characters are fast and have fast moves, it’s just they don’t have all the weird movement melee has stacked on that engine, but due to this movement benign half accidental it’s also jank af and thus takes longer to get use to. Rivals doesn’t have this problem because it’s movement is 100% intentional. Also did I mention it has a buffer? Cus buffers are great I miss them so much.
I never played Melee, although I love watching the game. I finally have a game on Steam's platform to grind like I wanted to do Melee, but always felt like I was too late to the scene. I came from multiversus and it's so much different its insane. It took me a couple hours to get to the point where I'm not getting dogwalked by the level 9 cpu, and I'm like 550 low bronze 😭😭. Game is so fucking fun though
I got this game to get fun since I thought it looked nice. I had to give up... I tried to rank myself so I get fights against people like me who never played this genre but ended up in the 200 rating and still getting 3/0 by everyone unless they killed themselves by mistake. It is a really awfull experience and sad since this game looked fun but is simply not accessible for an average person.
Rivals 2 is NOT noob friendly. If you have plat fighter skills it's accessible. I thought I'd be ok since I sometimes play Ultimate with friends, but I am getting DESTROYED in RoA2 😂 The grind is hella fun tho
The game play core is there and it is quite good. I do think that they need to fix up a few aspects such as shielding, recovery, online bugs, and character balance before it becomes a classic. I couldn't get into it after 10 hours of playing. Still feels "off" to me and I've sunk huge hours into Melee(thousands), Ultimate(hundred+), Rivals 1(hundred+). I'm confident that the devs will fix the technical and balance issues.
What mango is saying at the start of the video is the game has a lower skill ceiling. Similar to rocket league, it takes hours of grinding melee to becomes amazing at all the tech. It takes time to become very consistent. The tech is was holds many people back. Most humans can position and space decently well without many hours.
I think you mean skill floor, as in the baseline skill required to start really playing the game. Skill ceiling is the absolute maximum potential you can reach in the game, which is very high in rivals 2
@@morganlak4337 Yes he was describing the skill floor, you right. Though the skill ceiling is definitely much higher in melee and rocket league when compared to rivals 2.
@@imaginationland474 They are saying that players need to buy / pay for the game to play it. There's a discount on Steam right now but it looks like the sticker price is currently $29.99 USD.

Rivals 2 works with you. In Melee when you start the game is working AGAINST you doing what you want lol
Very true, but that’s what makes melee so satisfying imo. Hard to learn, harder to master lol
