  • May 8, 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of V-E Day, which marked the end of the war in Europe during WWII. What you may not know is that the events that ended that conflict were set in motion on May 7th in the city of Reims, France. We're exploring the site where the terms of surrender were signed and where General Eisenhower conducted the war from. Lots of amazing things to see and experience in this video!

They were also essential for the start of the war, go read about the Mollotow Ribbentrop pact and how Germans and Soviets coordinated and split European countries into zones of influence/occupation...Putin and Russia has the same mindset for the last 20 years, calling the dissolution of the evil Soviet empire "the greatest disaster of the 20th century"
..and this led to the invasion of Ukraine...they would do the same with Poland, Finland and the Baltics, but they cant...thats why they hate the idea of NATO in those areas, they know once those countries are in, the gig is up...
STOP, GLORIFYING, THE USSR, because of Hitler...
...we in eastern europe paid too much because of it...we are still digging up graves of Soviet/communist executions 1945-90.
While your were celebrating VE day, and drinking vodka with Commisars and NKVD scum, Stalin was just warming up for a new post war butchering of Europe...you learned nothing from Chamberlains appeasement in Munich....

Correct. The war in Europe ended and when our forces on Okinawa were informed, they could not have cared less as that battle raged. I'm sitting at home, in the states in the year 2020,and can feel the gravity of that room, and its historic significance.
All I could think of was the bloody path that was carved into that countryside, by sooo many lives, to get to that point.
And the relief that it was over, and the sorrow felt for those lost, by the rest of the Allied Army's and familys.
Also could here 'Webster', from 'Band Of Brothers' as they rode passed the 10's of thousands of German P O W's exclaiming, "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING"!!!.

Only advice I would give is broaden your knowledge on things not WWII. In some of your western videos I saw you weren't up to speed on certain things. Learn the little details such as firearms, historical details (small details), and day to day details of the era. Something that your viewer WOULDN'T know and you can TEACH them. That is what will bring viewers back and back again.

Appreciate the feedback. Yeah, on some videos (like the WWII stuff), there is a ton of research that goes into the preparation for visiting and filming. And on others, you all are kind of seeing things at the same time that I am and experiencing it along with me. For example, on that western trip that you mentioned, many of those places I just saw as I was driving and stopped to check it out. My hope has been that people will see some of these places and it will encourage them to dig deeper and learn more or tell me something that I don’t know so that I can learn to. 🙂

I have just seen some of your videos when you came to us in Europe and to my amazement I do not see any video of your presence in Luxembourg. Yet you were so close. A visit to the Hamm military cemetery could have ended your trip. You would have seen General Patton's grave there. It's also a pity that you couldn't go to Verdun and Sedan in France. Maybe for another time. In any case, I just discovered your channel on TH-cam and what you do there is wonderful.
    So I salute your work.
From a history lover to another... 😉

@@TheHistoryUnderground You will be welcome there. The country is literally awash in history. The city of Luxembourg is worth its weight in gold as well as the castles of Bourscheid and Vianden (north of Luxembourg..... in the ardennes) not to mention the north of the country who had its share of miseries during the Battle of the Ardennes. In Clervaux there is a particular story since the Americans occupied the castle there. There were violent fights there without mentioning the fight of Arzfeld (October 30, 1798) where revolted peasants had to face the French republicans.
FYI if sometimes you would make the trip. All public transport (trains, buses, trams) are free. So with the train it is easy from Luxembourg city to go anywhere in the country.
