Glad I found your channel the other day. The Fish Commission captures steelhead at the fish gates on Trout Run and uses them for eggs and milt. They often "return" them to the McKean hole were you fished. You timed your trip just right this year. What size bait are you using and what pattern? 4.5??
Can’t wait to go back up , been a couple weeks , need to get my first one on the fly . Going to try this spot or further up , trying to get away from the people down stream .
I live 5 minutes from that spot. Don’t fish it much but I know it’s a good spot around first part of December. Need lots of rain early to get them up there though. Pray to the rain gods this year !! 2024-25. Great video guys.

All the creeks are pretty good right now, piles of steelhead.

How far from the mouth is this? I’m still very new to the sport and trying to find some spots with public access.
It’s a ways up prob atleast 10 miles I’d say!
Why not keep one? They don’t usually stay in elk creek for too long
I am not a huge fan of steelhead so I usually just let them go... I do enjoy them smoked though!!
