We all have things we boast in - our looks, our achievements, our money, our progress, our intelligence, etc. But no one will be boasting in those things in the presence of a holy God. “God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”” (1 Corinthians 1:28-31, ESV) He is the goodness we claim, and the grounds of our hope. To boast in the Lord means we boast in the mercy he showed us when he came to live a perfect life, die in our place for our sins, and rise from the dead. Whatever we think we lack (money, recognition, a job, friends, a marriage partner, etc.), what we need most is the mercy God has shown us in Christ. Is that helpful?
