  • Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau marked the 10th anniversary of a landmark Supreme Court decision on a land title for the Tsilhqot'in Nation in the country.
The Tsilhqot’in First Nation’s aboriginal land title was awarded in a landmark Supreme Court decision ten years ago. The 2014 ruling marked the first time the Supreme Court recognized aboriginal title to a specific piece of land.
The case involved a claim to 1,750 sq km (676 sq miles) of land in central British Columbia. The court ruled that the Tsilhqot'in Nation, a group of six native bands, was entitled to prevent forestry on this tract.
Trudeau marked the anniversary with his 10-year-old son Hadrien at an event in British Columbia.
