I’ve worn the khaki one of these for 3 years so far as my work watch as a gardener so fair to say It gets a good beating, it seems to be as tough as any of my G-shocks, and held up to scratches brilliantly, it’s a quite well recessed crystal, the illuminator and 10 year battery logos have worn smooth over time, but the other printing is still clearly intact, I too can read it without my glasses. Great watch.
my scuba buddy wears this for back up chrono ...i can tell you that it has more tha 50 dives with this little gem...all the dives are about to 30 meters...
I have the WHX which is the long strap version, in black. Been wearing it everyday for 6 weeks straight. By far the best casio I've owned. It's so easy to read and sits so comfortably on my 6.5" wrist.
Thanks for doing an alarm volume test. So many people don't. I bought a square G-shock 5610U from the same retailer as you (Argos), twice, once at £99.99 and again at a sale price of £79.99 and they were both returned as the alarm level was the same on both. I saw no point in having a 5 alarm watch that only a young bat could hear in a quiet room, yet the much cheaper Casio's all work so well and as I don't drive over my watch in a car or am SAS soldier I stayed with Casio and saved some money.
Funnily enough I have literally just picked up the G-Shock GW-M5610U you have mentioned in the Argos Sale, so I will be looking forward to seeing how quiet it is in terms of beeping! The AE-1500WH is a great watch and you may find it a bit easier to read the time off at a glance as that LCD display is massive. The only thing I would say is to keep your receipt just incase you may find it a bit on the large side when wearing it on your wrist. Also, I will have to say that I have had a few comments mentioning that it does attract scratches a bit more quicker than other smaller watches. Ha ha I am with you about driving over the G-Shock or being in the SAS. At the moment, prior to me wearing the G-Shock for my next review coming soon, I have been wearing a Casio W-86H on a daily basis and I have to say it is simply brilliant. It takes the knocks like a champ, has a great backlight, 50 metres of water resistance and is as cheap as chips to own. You could literally get the AE-1500WH and the W-86H and still have change against the G-Shock you had mentioned in the Argos sale. See what you think! Cheers, Tony - WTA
Got a Casio W-86H a few weeks back (Again from the shop beginning with an A and ending in RGOS) after seeing it on The Mad Watch Collector. I like the back light and I can hear the alarm. Display is a bit on the small size for my eyes. I also have a W-800H which I got the timer mod working and managed to get a Nato strap on with a bit of plastic scraping. @@wetryanythingchannel
Just got this watch, too! Paid almost fifty USD and that was a great price in our market. Though I love that blue, I got the green as I already have that blue in my Casio WS1500H (hint, hint, great watch not often seen on u tube) that has basically the same case shape as the AE1500, but the protuberances along the bezel are shaped and placed differently as well as very different functions and very different display. Anyways, very easy to remove the lettering on the bezel. I do it on all my Casios. Apply a little rubbing alcohol with Q-tips to start to break up the paint of the Illuminator and 10 year battery lettering, then rub away with a soft white eraser. Apply a little more alcohol or even water more liberally to help the process along. Ten to fifteen minutes and you'll have a clean bezel and cleaner overall look (I don't usually bother with the button markings as they are sunk into the resin and harder to get at though it can be done, but you'll need something like very fine pointed toothpicks to get at the paint). I have the sand-coloured one. The display has a subtle pale orange over the date, seconds and ten-second graph. It looks more interesting than the other variants imo. Good review of a cracking watch!
Just was about to buy something that I thought the same model but it was small compared to the size of this original.. although it was in a store it looked like not the same size
One more thing, when I stay out somewhere, I love the large face and clear digits, it makes a nice makeshift bedstand alarm clock, easy glance to see the time, no need to pick it up, and pull it to your face. It's a cheap watch, don't be mistaken, but it does what it's made to do spectacularly. Excellent value, imo.
Bought one of these for $10.00 off a buddy of mine early in 2023 and haven't regretted it. The best beater watch I've ever had. Would've happily paid full price.
That ghosting is minimal compared to MOST digital watches, almost all of which have some of this depending on the severity of the angle. Has anyone ever seen an LCD watch that has NO ghosting at any angle? I have this watch and there is almost no ghosting except when viewed from an almost unviewable angle that no one would think of doing as you can barely see the surface of the watch. Sorry, for the aside. Good review of a watch that is affordable and destined to become quite a popular model.
Even the negative display version of this watch is very easy to read, it's one of the best "Standard" models. But it boggles the mind that Casio doesn't seem to want to use the same polarizer tech for their higher priced models.
Not even higher priced models. For example the vintage series have the same price with a very beautiful lcd, no ghosting and no depth between top of the screen and numbers. Probably oem manufacturers make various models and Casio only puts the label, no connection between models.
By the way, the lumps on the inside of the strap marry up with the same pattern on the inside of the atrap retainer band and they are there to hold it in place so that it doesn't move. A very nice feature once you know it's there.
I bought a watch that has a dark display. So far it works flawlessly and is great for everyday use. However, I think that digital watches with bright displays are much more practical in situations where the light is reduced because the content on the display is more visible, so you don't have to use the watch's light. No matter which variant you choose, you won't have a problem, because the price/quality ratio is, in my opinion, optimal.
I have just ordered the same watch from Argos for pick up tomorrow it will my 3th one of these model I have the sand and negative also the area a great watch very easy to see the only one I can see with out my glasses on I see in the dark

I wear the green and khaki one for almost 3 years. They are absolutely brilliant beater watches. As good as my 5610 but 1/4 of the price and, for my older eyes, way way more readable
Hai sir... The colour is matte right? After 3 years wearing it, is there any colour degradation or just maybe the colour turns into a bit glossy, or something else? Planning to buy one of this either in blue or khaki, still confused..
Also as far as any dislikes can keep it or leave it, the second counter block on the right side. With or without it is fine. I wear it in my sleep where I can hit the light button and still see what time it is without the need for my progressives. A lot to be said for that and overall it's so inexpensive.

I've got a few watches, all more expensive than this Casio, I literally wear this every day but Saturday , the one evening I get to go out. A couple things, firstly, if it's not obvious, I love the watch, it does everything I need it to do, I have my celly for everything else, I don't feel the need for digital redundancy in that form. That out of the way, it does get caught on things due to its thickness, but it's tough enough to handle it, however it can get annoying. I don't like the fakey screws on the front plate, but that's just being nit picky, imo. For the price(I think I paid $25, in all, delivered) I find it impossible to complain about it. It's actually more difficult to scratch the crystal/glass than you'd think, or maybe I've been lucky, but in general, the side will take the hit due to how they stick out further than the display. I will buy another, if anything happens to this one, so far, not a single issue, but imagining how much damage my more costly wrist pieces have avoided because I've worn this, it's probably paid for itself 10x over by now.
Tony, are you spying on me? I just bought this watch three weeks ago from Argos, for a discounted prix of £18.50. Thickest watch I own. Strictly a t-shirt only job; not a sleeve out there that will cover this bad boy. I love it!
Ha ha I just might be! The Casio AE-1500WH is a great watch and one I have had on my list to own for a while and couldn't believe it when Argos had it discounted. So like you, I simply had to buy it and feature it on here. As you have said not a watch to wear while wearing a jumper, hoodie or anything with long sleeves but it is the ideal Casio if your eyesight is not 20/20, as that display is so big and above all simple to read! How accurate is this watch in real life? Has anyone tested and measured over several days using a radio standard such as WWV/H? Hopefully casio will coming out with a model that sets itself with radio clocks and bluetooth
It is rated at +/-30sec/month. Most are much better than that, well within +/-10sec/month. I never really got the point of the atomic receiving (and I have a couple) when modern $25 quartz from Casio is so close to perfect accuracy.
Going to be honest here and say that while I love this watch and have worn it since the review it is quite a chunky watch to wear and you may find it a little too large for your 6.5 inch wrist. All I can say is for you to try and see if there is a watch retailer near you to visit and see if you can try one on for size and see what you think. Cheers, Tony - WTA
Hi Tony, I have a 5.9 inch wrist and I am dead happy wearing this watch. It is very light and comfortable and I don't find it too big but then that is just me. My wife calls it my "Big Ben" I also have 5 of the MDV-106 Duro's and I have them all on solid stainless steel straps and they each weigh 140 grams and again I find them too heavy but a lot of people will. Obviously I like big chunky watches. @@wetryanythingchannel
Like all watches that feature an acrylic crystal they are going to inevitably scratch and my theory with this Casio is that with it being such large watch there is probably more chance of it. You can get a tube of Polywatch to help buff out the scratches when they do occur but at the end of the day it is a very affordable watch and if they do get really scratched up then you can hopefully buy another one down the line. @@mailboxband it's not mineral...if it were, like on the pricier g-shocks(which are mineral)it would be more expensive. This watch=acrylic/resin, g-shock=mineral, oceanic=sapphire(generally speaking, the pricier the casio, the better the material).
I agree that the Illuminator and 10 year battery decals are unnecessary and don't add to the aesthetics of the watch so I took a spot of Brasso polish and a soft cloth and rubbed them off. It only takes a couple of minutes and the polish leaves a very nice finish.
Casio seem to like to advertise the features on their watches and I am sure that they are doing it so people can read those features when they are looking online for a watch or in a shop window. I do think that most of the time they detract from the overall design of the watch and I can understand the pushers being marked but, as you have mentioned, things like 'Illuminator' and '10 Year Battery' seem a little silly one a watch. To my knowledge it isn't scratch or shock resistant you and would have to spend a bit more and look at Casio's G-Shock range of watches for those kind of features within a watch. Unfortunately, I am not sure how you would check to see if it is fake or real. The only way you will know is to buy the Casio AE-1500WH from a reputable retailer near you and then you know that you are buying the real deal or get it from Casio themselves. Cheers, Tony - WTA
so, has the band disintegrated yet? have you used it daily? that is something no reviewer talks about. these cheap casio are disposable watches. you use them 8 months, then the band disintegrate and the lcd develops a dark spot in the center. cheaper to buy another one that to replace the band.
I purchased this watch but after a few days i just returned this, because of its sensitive glass single touch on the glass causing a scratch, if you want to clean the glass, scratch occurs. And talking about build quality i found it low.
It’s a shame that you have experienced the issues that you have encountered with the Casio AE-1500WH. With it being a big LCD display Casio I would imagine that it is a bit of a scratch magnet but I still think that it is a great watch for the money. If you have a little more to spend, check out the Casio DW-291H as that is a tank of a watch and has a great LCD display. Hope it helps! Cheers, Tony - WTA
After some time, I discarded It for unnecesarily bulky, despiste the fact that I LOVE It. Since I dont need so many alarms or dual time, I ended up using a modded F105 with an all black steel case and a black nilon strap. Ps: IMHO, ghosting at so closed angles is totally negligible. Its not a real problem
It is quite a big watch, especially for my wrist, and I can see why you changed it over to the Casio F105w - which is a firm favourite of mine to wear. I only mention the ghosting effect just to help inform you about the watch. It isn’t normally a deal breaker but on some digital watches it can be quite prevalent. Cheers, Tony - WTA

17:25 thanks for bringing up the ghosting effect. its seriously bad, negates the whole purpose of a large sized watch. i thought it happens only in tough solar watches but maybe it happens in orange illuminators.
I would definitely advise you giving it a try before you buy as it is quite a large watch to wear on a daily basis, but that is based on my 6.5 inch wrist. You may have a bigger wrist that would probably suit this watch a lot better then it does on mine. Cheers, Tony - WTA

The sand one looks pretty sharp.
If I hadn't already bought a black one dirt cheap, I'd definitely go for the sand one.
I have the dark green one. Nice watch, attractive design, useful features, I wear it everyday and I love it.

I got this, good for frequent travellers... catching two place time zone. Visible, Durable, Reliable and Practical. Also good active sports lifestyle.
It's a great watch in terms of legibility and ergonomics. 10 year battery and 100 meters of water resistance. It's a discount G-Shock.
I bought a watch that has a dark display. So far it works flawlessly and is great for everyday use.

Just got the white version with negative display. Good watch for the price. I got mine installed with screen protector just in case tho. 😅

The big numbers make all the difference. Have worn the Kakhi model about 2 years. No reason to replace it.

As you have said not a watch to wear while wearing a jumper, hoodie or anything with long sleeves but it is the ideal Casio if your eyesight is not 20/20, as that display is so big and above all simple to read!

does it have the date in the UK order dd/mm/year?
How accurate is this watch in real life? Has anyone tested and measured over several days using a radio standard such as WWV/H? Hopefully casio will coming out with a model that sets itself with radio clocks and bluetooth
mine is -5 sec per month.. pretty well accurate timepeace for it's price.
It is rated at +/-30sec/month. Most are much better than that, well within +/-10sec/month. I never really got the point of the atomic receiving (and I have a couple) when modern $25 quartz from Casio is so close to perfect accuracy.
Mines +.5 seconds per day unfortunately
I have a 8½" wrist and it fits great at the 4th to last hole. I wish you could turn off the button beeps though.
I don’t think you can turn off the button beeps on this watch but it is still a great Casio!

There is several version that have a longer band. They have the suffix WHX, also has two sets of holes side by side.

Going to be honest here and say that while I love this watch and have worn it since the review it is quite a chunky watch to wear and you may find it a little too large for your 6.5 inch wrist.
All I can say is for you to try and see if there is a watch retailer near you to visit and see if you can try one on for size and see what you think.

Hi Tony, I have a 5.9 inch wrist and I am dead happy wearing this watch. It is very light and comfortable and I don't find it too big but then that is just me. My wife calls it my "Big Ben" I also have 5 of the MDV-106 Duro's and I have them all on solid stainless steel straps and they each weigh 140 grams and again I find them too heavy but a lot of people will. Obviously I like big chunky watches. @@wetryanythingchannel

Is the watch glass easily scratched?
Like all watches that feature an acrylic crystal they are going to inevitably scratch and my theory with this Casio is that with it being such large watch there is probably more chance of it.
You can get a tube of Polywatch to help buff out the scratches when they do occur but at the end of the day it is a very affordable watch and if they do get really scratched up then you can hopefully buy another one down the line.

Crystal is better against skratches, but resin is much more impact resistant.
@@mailboxband it's not mineral...if it were, like on the pricier g-shocks(which are mineral)it would be more expensive. This watch=acrylic/resin, g-shock=mineral, oceanic=sapphire(generally speaking, the pricier the casio, the better the material).
I agree that the Illuminator and 10 year battery decals are unnecessary and don't add to the aesthetics of the watch so I took a spot of Brasso polish and a soft cloth and rubbed them off. It only takes a couple of minutes and the polish leaves a very nice finish.
Casio seem to like to advertise the features on their watches and I am sure that they are doing it so people can read those features when they are looking online for a watch or in a shop window.
I do think that most of the time they detract from the overall design of the watch and I can understand the pushers being marked but, as you have mentioned, things like 'Illuminator' and '10 Year Battery' seem a little silly one a watch.
I will have to check out the Brasso tip and see how it works.

Does it scratch and shock resistant. How to check its real or fake
To my knowledge it isn't scratch or shock resistant you and would have to spend a bit more and look at Casio's G-Shock range of watches for those kind of features within a watch.
Unfortunately, I am not sure how you would check to see if it is fake or real. The only way you will know is to buy the Casio AE-1500WH from a reputable retailer near you and then you know that you are buying the real deal or get it from Casio themselves.

so, has the band disintegrated yet? have you used it daily? that is something no reviewer talks about. these cheap casio are disposable watches. you use them 8 months, then the band disintegrate and the lcd develops a dark spot in the center. cheaper to buy another one that to replace the band.
I’ve had my copy a while. It’s doing well. Maybe people are getting fakes. If the watches are $23 but they buy them first $15 then are they real.
I purchased this watch but after a few days i just returned this, because of its sensitive glass single touch on the glass causing a scratch, if you want to clean the glass, scratch occurs. And talking about build quality i found it low.
It’s a shame that you have experienced the issues that you have encountered with the Casio AE-1500WH.
With it being a big LCD display Casio I would imagine that it is a bit of a scratch magnet but I still think that it is a great watch for the money.
If you have a little more to spend, check out the Casio DW-291H as that is a tank of a watch and has a great LCD display.

After some time, I discarded It for unnecesarily bulky, despiste the fact that I LOVE It. Since I dont need so many alarms or dual time, I ended up using a modded F105 with an all black steel case and a black nilon strap.
Ps: IMHO, ghosting at so closed angles is totally negligible. Its not a real problem
It is quite a big watch, especially for my wrist, and I can see why you changed it over to the Casio F105w - which is a firm favourite of mine to wear.
I only mention the ghosting effect just to help inform you about the watch. It isn’t normally a deal breaker but on some digital watches it can be quite prevalent.

I have this watch. only problem of this watch is... plastic watch crystal. it got scratched after 3 days...
17:25 thanks for bringing up the ghosting effect. its seriously bad, negates the whole purpose of a large sized watch. i thought it happens only in tough solar watches but maybe it happens in orange illuminators.

I would definitely advise you giving it a try before you buy as it is quite a large watch to wear on a daily basis, but that is based on my 6.5 inch wrist. You may have a bigger wrist that would probably suit this watch a lot better then it does on mine.
