This is the best version of one of the best songs in history. Walter Becker did it again!

This is far superior to the album version. Gary's voice is clearer and his enunciation of "St. Saviour Square" is better. The backing vocals are simpler and better. The drums are more in front. The music is pinchier and better arranged. Just fantastic!

Agreed! This is much clearer and jazzier and more elegant overall. The song and the musicianship just shines, instead of being slathered in ketchup like the released version. Just listen to the hi-hat and the snare, not to mention the bass.

@@jaysojdelius haha! Love the ketchup analogy, I’m going to use that.

Anyone know the lyrics to the verse that didn't make it to the final released version? :o

At 3:56 sounds to me like, "Like this note to incite or intended success. No freedom of choice - only black bitterness." I can't be sure of the first three words, though. Thanks for mentioning it, I would have likely not picked up on the different lyrics in this version.

@@sdql_observer9811 Thank yiou so much! I thought it sounded kind of like " Life has no true insight or intended success, no freedom of choice only blank bitterness"..... anyway, I'm sure we'll find out someday! ^_^

JC1967 Gazza played bass on this one as far as I know. I like the Mike Thorne version as well. This one sounds like The Dan and Mike's version sounds more like a hyped up Boz Scaggs song.

Other than the female backing vocal (unless that's Lundon) on "SAINT", which is a little jarring, this is really good.

Better version! Listen to the drums! Far better rhythm on this production. RIP Walter Becker

I agree... this is beautiful... brass is brilliant... middle 8 is superb. The version with the big choir is overproduction definitely.
