It's so heartbreaking to see such a organic video where the life of a girl is explained! Hard truth but there are some good families too , all we people hope for a better husband/wife to live with but life is different for everyone we have to either accept it or over come it by choosing what's right for us ! Kudos to the team 💯👌
But till the end the girl didn't communicate properly what she wants and why she don't want to anyone. Open communication is always better in relationships. She can't assume that others will understand what is in her mind. Thats the only thing i felt a flaw in this. Otherwise its good and everyone acted really well.

Perfection. SO many metaphors; such an art. Most short films feel like they dump the idea they want to share in between dialogues which never really affect me, but this, this was so different. It was SO hard to watch her feelings getting mistreated. And, I almost misunderstood the ending. As an aspiring story writer, I got greatly inspired.
We talk about racism. But what about women. They are not second to men.
That girl when she pressed pen...then she said both n opened the car door...paa...what an acting both of them...to top it all direction n screenplay...sequence of things to show she is married off...emmadi...these short film team deserve big screen

My wife was in a similar situation during those 3 weeks prior to our marriage, she totally avoided speaking with me, although we were in love for 8 years before that, she stopped taking calls and with no contact I just met her before the wedding day night.. Its really hard to understand women, anyway I stayed patiently, but still I question her about those unspoken days..

What a way to convey girls feelings! Excellent! I saw my real life story as a short film ..In India most of the families and guys are like this way only treated the women's, they are not ready to hear what women are go through in some situation..good effort team!
Kudos to the Director & the entire team 👏👏👏💐💐💐 for giving such a thought-provoking short film. The beauty of the film lies in it's multiple themes--suppression of women, domination of men, quest for liberation, freedom & self-identity by woman as also the deterioration of the values of marriage where marriage has come to mean mere sex.
In the film, Nadhiya's feelings or the mental trauma is never understood by anyone, including her own mother & brother, who think that getting married & leaving parents home is the societal norm for a girl. The father, of course, doesn't value the sentiments of Nadhiya, be it the cutting of the tree or her own life & thinks that he is the sole decision-maker of everything in Nadhiya's life. There is an equally insensitive Harish, the boy with whom Nadhiya's betrothal has taken place. He assumes that he is empowered to decide on sex, for him sex before marriage is acceptable although Nadhiya is not inclined to his atrocious ideas. He is shown as yet another decision-maker for Nadhiya for the rest of her life. The father & Harish are men who are carrying forth the legacy of patriarchy by behaving like feudal lords who decide & have been deciding women's lives since the beginning of civilization.
However, the film ends on a positive note & shows that times have changed. In the present scenario, girls are empowered & are standing at the threshold of life where they can, if they dare to, break away from the shackles of suppression & domination & have their own HOME & lead their own life. The 3 brushes shown in the film is symbolism of Nadhiya having left her parents HOME & her, trying to remove the engagement ring is symbolic of her trying to free herself from the fetters of an unpalatable betrothal with Harish. The cutting of the tree is a sign of her father crushing her sentiments & sensibilities. The diminishing needle on the speedometer of the car marks the ebbing of Nadhiya's interest in Harish & the soon-to-be marriage. Gone are the days when Men as Father & Husband ruled women's lives for centuries. Nadhiya, the NEW WOMAN, in the short film, shows that it will never continue to be so henceforth. She decides to leave her parental HOME in her quest for freedom, liberating herself from the shackles of marriage. She will have her own HOME which will ensure decision-making, freedom & liberation from everything that has tied her down so far. Nadhiya, thus, is no longer the "SILENT SUFFERER" but a symbol of the liberated "NEW WOMAN" who will live her life with self-esteem! What a wonderful concept! 👌👌👌

@@Happy1World I forgot quite a lot of things. Infact, we can do a full-fledged research on every aspect of this wonderful "food for thought" story. I forgot the empty clothesline having only 3 clothes in the end, at the beginning of the story, Nadhiya is shown putting clothes on the clothesline & there were many clothes. Also Harish giving lolipops to her in the car is a suggestive gesture & reflects his dirty mind & her refusing to eat it shows her displeasure towards his perverted behaviour. The condom falling out of his wallet disgusts her further because it only makes her realize that he can never be a caring husband for her for, he was only after her body. Just as her family doesn't consult her on anything, this monster Harish too was all set to ravage her body even before the marriage without her permission. Women are never part of any decision-making & poor Nadhiya faces the same situation in both places--her home as well as with Harish. The theory of "woman as man's property" has existed since ages & that's exactly what Harish tried with Nadhiya although there was only 3 weeks left for the marriage. Infact every woman has inclination & Harish never bothered to find out if on that day, she was inclined to have sex with him. To put it bluntly, on that day, Harish was hell-bent on raping Nadhiya in those 2 hrs in the resort. He receives his mother's phone call where she asks him to leave Nadhiya back in her house. Probably the mother knows the son's weakness for women. When Nadhiya gets out of his car, she tells him on his face that she doesn't like the idea of having sex with him. It is a hint to him that the engagement cannot go any further & she was all set to put an end to their relationship. Her trying hard to remove the betrothal ring in the auto is once again a sign of her determination to put an end to that engagement. Her father's emotional blackmailing only aggravates her further & strengthens her desire to leave home & explore the outer world. The insensitivity of her mother, brother & father makes her realize that she doesn't belong there so, she confidently leaves the "meaningless" stone structure called "home" to have a "cozy" home of her own. These days it isn't difficult for women to live independently provided they are empowered with education & economic independence. That's exactly what the story tries to highlight!
I fully understand and appreciate the FREEDOM the young woman like Nadhiya long for.
Most of the working women of the Advanced world (the NATO countries) have already achieved what Nadhiya wish for. They have a job, their own bank a/c, own flat, own car and all the pleasures of daily life. But, many women of this comfort ask "What next? Where is the Man and my own child around me? I have my hair done every week, I wear fashionable designer clothes and I vacation in exotic places... But still, something is fundamentally missing. Look at my parents. My Dad does lots of work at home, he washes the cars, mows the lawn, vacuums the carpet, and my Mom just makes tea & cookies for him. They both sit and laugh at the weird behavior of the Modern Day Women!" Most of the Fans of Gloria Steinum 30 years ago, now look at their life and see "A hopelessness in their View of the Life. It is not wholesome!"
Many hyper educated highly paid professional women now dial up to their College Classmates = the Men in their Class and ask "Tom, Are you free this weekend, I thought we can meet and catch up on things; so much water has gone under the bridge!"
These women of high caliber long for the romance in their life with their counter part!!

Simple theme of life but with a strong message where lack of understanding the other seems normal. It is not, understanding means to respect the other’s viewpoint. Decision making is the freedom that everyone should experience. Decisions come from rationale and reasoning , when understood will open the heart and love will blossom. No one can shut the mind that sees in another way, we can only try to understand. To follow societal norms are not wrong but it should not be imposed on young women and curb their sense of identity. As often said, once a daughter, always a daughter.

She leaves home & that is symbolically conveyed through the 4 brushes in the brush stand becoming 3 which means she has left home, breaking the engagement & having her own home. Her father tells her if she doesn't agree to the marriage she has no place in HIS home. So, the term 'home' gets a new meaning with his (father's) home becoming HER own home, full of freedom & liberty to do what she wants in life!

They tell it's the ritual followed from decades. And you also should, do it, but the pain is sensed only by women. It might be a well settled house or a better house than that of brides but nothing can full the parents house. How much ever you pay or you try to give comfort or so called "freedom" It's all less than zero in front of that😢 . I feel very much awful to such kind of ritual.. But the movie made remember the same old situation of mine😢. This very much heart touching one. 💘 all the best to the team. One of the best theme. Great job. 💐
