Thank you for this. I was about to buy a dress from them seeing that the pieces they described are cotton or silk. It’s disappointing to know that even if you’re spending over $100 on a dress that you’re still buying polyester. Smh
Polyester is one of the least expensive fabrics to make but not all polyester is the same! That being said, house of CB is not using premium polyester from what I can tell 😅
@@wangjenniferr Oh that totally makes sense! They could've at least used one of the more premium options for that price. I would love to see you do more videos on other popular brands like this ☺ They are very informative and helpful!
@@samiesamantha1601The differences are mostly the same as why you can have $5/yard cotton vs $20/yard cotton or $20/yard silk vs $60/yard silk. With natural fabrics, short staple fibers will be cheaper than longer staple (or in the case of silk, continous filament reeled from whole cocoons is higher cost than spun silk from shorter fibers from broken cocoons). With polyester there is no "natural" staple length, but as with silk, yarns made with shorter bits of polyester spun together are be cheaper and weaker compared to continuous filament. Then there is thread count/density of fabric, fineness/evenness of yarns, is extra yarn or fabric processing done to impart certain qualities, is the fabric yarn dyed or piece dyed, etc. And then just things like quality control, is the color consistent, are they checking for holes or defects, even automatic industrial looms and knitting machines are not perfect. Although something important to note is that with clothing, the fabric and other materials are usually not the main manufacturing cost component, it's labor, even for mass-produced fast fashion in a country with cheap labor. (And then the mfg. cost is only part of the total cost and the total cost is only part of the price you buy it for) so using fabric price to compare garment price often doesn't tell you very much.
for the price, i expected less polyester and i didnt know companies were allowed to be so ...insincere with the fabrics they use. im glad u returned it all.
I have a corset top for over 1.5 years and the boning did pop off recently! You are right it does wear off with time because it’s not capped. You looked great in the green dress

You’re a lifesaver!!! Hubby was going to buy me a couple items, but after seeing this video I’ll be skipping the purchase ❤ would love a list of brands you consistently love!
They’ve upped their prices a lot since Covid and i’ve noticed a huge change in quality. I ordered a gown similar shape to that green one, honestly the fit was horrendous! The stomach area gaped outwards and sort of sagged down and where the thighs are- I couldn’t walk or sit because it was so tight around my legs!
Thank you for killing my desire to buy from the house of cb. I'm especially disappointed to see the tululu dress, which appears to be a summer dress has a polyester lining. As well as polyester sucking it's not practical for summer.
I remember when I used to buy from them regularly 3 years ago, they actually used to say the fabric content on the website as well! I don't really understand why now they feel the need to omit it...must be due to the increase in their prices! I remember a standard corset top would cost 78€, now it's 117€! It's all just greed to be frank.
finally an honest house of cb review thank you! I've seen so many people excusing the bad quality by just saying that things are cute, polyester is not cute everybody, especially for 200+ dollars
absolutely LOVED this review! so honest and thorough and def different from all other videos I saw. This is what I was looking for! Thank you for the tips
Wow That's crazy the structure of the green dress and the embroidery rib dress looks pretty armature for that price point! & I had no clue about their fabric choices, I for sure thought those dresses were mostly soft cotton from the pictures. Thank you so much for this video! Also could you do a video on Zara & Uniqlo? :)
What we've learned: House of CB does NOT tell you what dresses are made of and sometimes will even lie: Milena dress: CB website says “Made from stretch weighted crepe” which isn’t a material, it’s just appearance, but tags say 92% Polyester 8% Elastane, Lining 95% Polyester 5% Elastane Tallulah dress: CB website says “Rayon Lining (100% Rayon)”, but tags say: Lining 2 51% Polyester 49% Viscose Christa dress: CB website says “Georgette, Dry Light Satin” which is again appearance, NOT composition but tags say 100% Polyester Chiccca top: CB website says “made with linen”, but tags say: 82% Lyocell 18% Linen, Lining 51% Polyester 41% Viscose Plus boning is also not capped in their corsets.
I’ve been buying house of cb for years now and although the fabric is mainly polyester, there’s cognitive dissonance due to the cute pictures and designs. Do you have any recommendations for brands that have similar styles, similar prices (or better) but are better quality?
I would love to see an Everlane review! After watching your videos I am seeing some very interesting material blends and am wondering if they too are starting to suffer quality to cut costs! ❤❤
I actually think the zipper on the tululah blue dress was badly done -- you can see at 3:34 how it ends about 1/3 inch before the hook eye closure & the top of the dress
Thanks so much for this video, Jennifer! Your dialogue around not only the design of the pieces, but also the durability/sustainability/technical elements of them is super helpful and uncommon to find!! I was wondering what your experience was like returning to House of CB from Canada?
I wish garment makers were required to print on the care labels as to whether or not the cotton fabric was pre-washed/shrunk before the garment was made.
I think they saw this video at some point and actually put proper composition with percentages now. Thank you for your thorough reviews of materials and quality. ❤
Well I adjusted a house of cb dress and the sew-in boning is kind of capped, they use a piece of fabric to 'cap' the end, but in the dress I adjusted it was the lining fabric they used.
Given how many different fibers there were in the clothes that were not listed, I was wondering if this happens with other clothing companies in general? Is there anything that mandates them to report the true materials in correct amounts? I feel like I have learned so much from these videos! Thank you!
Do you think garment makers say "Dry clean only" even if that's not completely true to protect against people returning garments when they don't wash well, probably because they no longer prewash and preshrink fabrics before the garment is made? When I was young, it was important that cotton fabrics be pre-shrunk before the garment was made and I don't think garment makers do that anymore, so instead of buying 100% cotton, I fear that after one washing, even if I hang it to dry, it will become misshapen.
Thanks for this! I love a lot of their designs but the vague names of the fabric content made me wary, it’s not awful but the lack of transparency is really bad
Can you review Madewell's sweaters? The majority of them are a wool/polymide/cotton blend but their online description doesn't disaggregate the percentage. How well will the hold up?
mmmm, i don't like where the talula dress is hitting you in the back, it looks like it would chafe. idk why they did a square back, a rounded one i feel like would be less likely to cause issues...
You probably dont undertand about fabrics composition, because cotton is a fiber, and its quality will depend on the thread count, which can be very expensive due to a longer manufacting process. Fabrics are composed of fibers - cotton and polyester are not fabrics - they are fibers used to make a fabric, and each bleand will have a different name, for example:
Crepe de Chine: 100% Silk Georgette Crepe: 100% Polyester atte Crepe: Polyester, Rayon, or a blend Wool Crepe: Can be 60% Wool / 38% Rayon / 2% Lycra Polyester Crepe: 100% Polyester Canton Crepe: Can be made from various natural or synthetic fibers, such as Silk, Wool, Cotton, Rayon, Polyester, or Nylon Blends that have polyesters are cheaper because the manucturing process is much easier - the molding, cutting, shapeing of the fabric and then the actual sewing of the item through the different industrial sewing machines is much easier, much easier! Polyester also is more maleable and provides a wider range of cuts and designs for clothes, it also has more durability, colour retention and wrinkle resistance compared to other fibers.

I returned my House of CB order because of poor fit even thought I followed their sizing guide, and awkward design on the cups of the vest I got. Disappointing that such a well reviewed brand doesn’t deliver quality for price.
I really really want to buy the chicca top. But I don't really know which size to get. I'm a size small but I read some of the reviews from Nordstrom that it runs small. So I don't know if I should get a small or a medium :( And I like clothing to be pretty fitted on me and not loose but I also don't want it to be too small haha
$200+ and I get a polyester lining?? In a summer dress? I dreamed of buying several dresses for myself, I looked at reviews, but no one before you showed the composition of the fabric. Such a disappointment.
I bought three pieces of clothing from them. Worst quality clothes I’ve ever seen and the stitching is so messy I’m embarrassed to wear it out in public because it is sooooo visible. 🤢
I'm 100% sure House of CB drop ship from China because I've seen their designs all over AliExpress. I've seen people wearing the AliExpress "dupes" and they're completely indistinguishable from the House of CB ones. Same stitching, material, lay, print, everything.
What is up with that cheap, thin satinny material that wrinkles too easily being passed off as a wearable fabric? I see this all the time now and I feel like they are getting over on people who don’t know what is a decent fabric or not. Even in the realm of synthetic that stuff looks terrible.
Take a look at their glass door reviews. I’m one of ma y where they have gotten to do a design brief for a designer role they had up only for them to steal those designs after not giving us the role. Awful brand. Awful Uk fashion
I feel it’s a bit unfair to bash a brand because they use polyester. Making clothes goes way beyond the fabric used and also includes the construction and detail of the garment, amount of time it takes to make it etc. and they also need to pay their factory workers fair wages. I agree with you that they definitely need to be transparent on their website about the fabric composition but a lot of their pieces actually fit nice and they use boning a lot and asymmetric cuts which really complicates the sewing process. Even the price of polyester and other fabrics has increased significantly since vivid, global inflation and Russia Ukraine war. I don’t even buy from them cause they don’t cater well to girls with big boobs. But I’m not gonna bash them and say their bad for charging what they do. I have a business and it’s sad to see someone come for other peoples businesses.
Btw I say it fits nice because before I added weight it fit me quite well and I’ve seen videos of other girls who look bong in their clothes. I feel not every brand needs to cater to every single body type and that’s ok. Just find the ones that work for you. At the end of the day it’s a business so from a profit perspective it makes zero sense to try and cater to everyone. They have a specific customer they cater to. I just don’t bother shopping there. But I won’t bash them just cause of that though
I think the problem is that people are becoming desensitized to buys more and more plastic and that’s not ok. If capitalism is all is cracked up to be then businesses should fail if they don’t put out quality products but that’s not what’s happening people need to be aware or what they’re buying and that needs to be honest
