Fairlife milk is UltraPasturized that’s why you don’t boil it. But raw milk isn’t pasteurized at all so it would need to be boiled. I make mine with fairlife milk and it’s SO yummy!!
I’m from the US and am making this for my 14 month old granddaughter without the sweetened condensed milk. I will add black berries or add other organic berries at breakfast into the yogurt for breakfast. I never knew how to make yogurt so this recipe, is appreciated even if I don’t use the sweetened condensed milk. I also can add almond butter to it for protein to the yogurt but don’t need the sweetened condensed milk at all. Maybe when she is older, I can make it as a dessert one day. Not all Americans use sugar like this, for my granddaughter who is 14 months old, we make oatmeal, no sugar in it, chia seeds and flax, plus berries of most any kind. Even ground nuts that she has been introduced to, not granola. She hasn’t had sugar and very, very little salt.
We just started making homemade yogurt and we use a yougurt machine. It comes with seven little jars with lids and once you are done heating your milk, cooling it down, etc you pour the milk back in the jars and set them in the little machine for 8 to 12 hours. Once done you just put the lids on and stick in the fridge. It's perfect.♥️
We are south asian and we just boil milk and then set it aside for a couple hours until its cooled down a little bit. We transfer the milk from the pot to a container (we use metal, my mom house found that for us using plastic makes the yogurt slimy). We then add some previous yogurt, mix, and then we stick it in the oven until night. And if its is ready then it goes in the fridge otherwise we leave it in for another couple hours. We do not measure the temp or anything. We do let it come to a boil a couple times. but this method Julie is showing us works too.
Homemade yogurt is a staple in every South Asian household. We make it over the stove and let it set in a warm place for a couple of hours like the oven. We use regular milk only and some culture from a previous batch. Love it and it tastes so good!
I am from Spain and I also make homemade yogurt so we can eat healthier. I understand the cultural differences between Spain (and all mediterranean countries) and USA in terms of food, but adding condensed milk to the yogurt only increases (a lot) the amount of sugar your kids are having. What on the one hand you are improving by making homemade yogurt, you are spoiling on the other by adding excess sugar... But it is just my opinion, of course. I love your channel and I have been a subscriber for a loooooong time :-)
@@Cornerstonewtl Sure they are! But appart from the different tastes, there are obvious differences in food. If you have even been to Europe, more specifically, the South of Europe, you surely know it 🙂
I make homemade yogurt as well and was shocked that she would sweeten it with condensed milk. We may add a little organic maple syrup to ours but that is it.
I’ve seen people use fresh fruit. That’s what I like. I love sweet condensed milk but, the older you get the weight goes on. Plus that sweet condensed milk isn’t really good for me. So I don’t use it.
I made this yogurt yesterday!!! It is lovely :) I got an Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer for Christmas. Unfortunately, it does not have a yogurt button on it. BUT I did some research! I used your instructions plus some from another TH-camr. Sous Vide 163 (instead of the yogurt button) for 30 min. Then Sous Vide again for 105 for 8 hours. The rest of the directions I followed you. Thanks for taking the time to share this yummy recipe with us :)
Julie I appreciate how you always speak so clearly, you are very easy to understand. Lucy's face said 'tastes great mom!' Sending love from Wilsonville Oregon
Thank you. This hasn't always come easy. As I have edited my vlogs over the years it has taught me how to speak and pronounce more clearly and not blend or drag my words.
And that just got saved to my Pinterest. lol. I got my mom and I an Instant Pot for Christmas so I am trying to find some good but easy recipes to start out with. You did a good job explaining and really simplified it. Some of those recipes on the internet are very complicated.
Thankyou so much for showing us! My daughter has a lemon allergy and it is in most if not all of our flavoured yogurts in Canada. I can’t wait to make some yummy yogurt for her! Thanks again!
I just looked up on the Fairlife web site, and Fairlife Milk is pasteurized. In fact, it's double pasteurized, which mean it pasteurized at a higher temperature than normal milk. That is why it last so long.
I want to try making this , i am seating here thinking of all the things i could do with the yogurt, Thank you Julie for sharing this, i didn't know you could make your own yogurt i have to try this .
Thank you for this video! you explained it so well and easily... I have a little boy who loves yogurt and I think this would be so cool to do this with him. And speaking of little kids... can we talk about Lucys Sweater??? I LOVE that color on her, and The ombre colors!
Thank you for sharing. I always thought yogurt would be so hard to make, but you did a great job explaining it! I'm not a huge yogurt fan, but anything homemade is always better, I will have to give it a try. 😊
Thank you, Julie. I never realized I had a yogurt setting on my IP! I will experiment with mine as I am diabetic and won't be using the Sweetened Condensed Milk. Thar thumbs up from Lucy at the end was precious! She is such a cutie.
Amazing Julie! I made the plain yogurt a couple of times and it was very yummy but I will definitley try the sweetend one with condensed milk. That sounds also very good! Thank you for the recipe!

Thanks @juliederu for showing us how to make Yogurt. When my hubby and I were married, nearly 44 years ago, we received a yogurt maker. Yogurt was a new idea and I really wasn't interested in making yogurt. Probably more so because I did not like the taste. But as I've aged, my pallet has become more tolerable and I like the texture of Greek yogurt ths best. I'm excited to try doing this. If i wanted to make keylime flavor, would I just squeeze in lime juice? And if I used that, would I NEED to use fresh ONLY or could I use juice from the store in a bottle? Thanks again ~ Betty Lundell, Oregon
I wonder if you could mix a pack of pudding in it to flavor it? Then you could have a lot of different flavors and even use sugar free for the people that can't have sugar. It was just a thought, I have no idea if it would actually work.
that sounds good julie. i should ask my parents to make that yogurt. this is so awesome. i like your yogurt julie. i eat yogurt all the time. nice job ❤
Hi Julie, thanks for the tutorial! I had a question. I’m allergic to dairy but have had store bought dairy-free alternatives and I wondered if you might know if using oat milk, for an example of non-dairy milk , could work as well. Thanks again!
Hi Lori! If you do a 24 hour ferment on the yogurt all of the lactose is removed! I’ve been making it this way for years (however I do not add the condensed milk so I’m not sure if that would affect it at all). This is SO much cheaper than buying dairy free yogurt!
@@deidrekoehler2882 I’m Australian, so maybe you guys call it different. But it’s ultra high temp treated milk that you buy on the shelf instead of the cold section.
The idea is to keep it at a very constant temperature that’s really low. I’m not much help because I haven’t done it but try searching Pinterest. I’m sure there is another hack to try.
Thanks, I guess I could just add fresh fruit after it’s finished. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. However, the sweetened condensed milk would be a healthy dessert option option vs. chocolate cake or candy, my one year old granddaughter would love it! Thank you for telling everyone who to make yogurt! I would love to know how to make your Sourdough Bread Recipe! Please???? It’s not like you have anything else to do, like raise a family, clean, cook, raise a large family, be active in your faith, drive everywhere, help support your husband needs, vlog, etc…lol However, if you do somehow find some time, it would be wonderful. No pressure, I understand totally, if it’s not possible. Have a great day and New Year Deru Crew!

You need to keep little bit of left over yogurt and add milk to it and close the lid and leave it inside the oven overnight(Oven shouldn't be on), why we keep it inside the oven is because the yogurt is best made when the atmosphere is humid. Where did you get your yogurt strainer bag? Could you please put a link in your description box as to where you purchased it, or maybe put a link into your response to this comment? I make yogurt for my husband every week and I'm not straining it and it seems to be too liquidy for his taste. I would love to have the strainer bag that you are using. Your yogurt turns out better than mine by the way of thickness. Also, can you get all the yogurt out of the strainer bag, and is it easy to clean?

You totally don’t have to add it. You could do honey after it’s all made.

Can you use skim or 1% milk? I currently eat Greek yogurt with a fruit inside it’s the fit brand, trying to be healthier with less fat, more protein.

I am not sure. Try googling it. The goal is to keep the pot at a constant temp that is very low heat.

I would strain it through a mesh bag or tea towel. Once it has strained then dump the yogurt in a container and whisk it up.
