Hey Dif. I think if you put carpet it willl attract dust and doghairs. I think a spray like Rino linner. Would be tuff. But maybe not the best soundproofing. Africa heat can affect carpet glue. Good luck. Lekka Boet Lekka. 👍👍✌️
Painting is now your new talent..... suggestion: when applying tape to the vehicle surface, just put the adhesive side of the tape on your shirt. If it tugs on your shirt when removing the tape, do it again. This takes the adhesive that would stick to your metal, rubber gaskets, or glass and leaves it on the shirt.. the tape retains enough stick but seldom leaves the adhesive residue.... just food for thought. Keep on keeping on Diff.
The Barefoot Mechanic has created the slippery slope of Yellow paint! If you start doing off road recoveries you could end up being Matt's Off Road Recoveries South Africa! Lol Lekka Div.
Het Dif, carpet is a bit heavy for a roof liner, especially in hotter weather. I live in Townsville Australia and see even thin fabrics peel away with the heat. For all the effort to make this renobug it may be worth a rethink on the liner. I do recall that when younger I helped a friend line his panel van, the sin bin, and used carpet as the liner. It had to be redone after a couple of years, perhaps it was the quality of the glue, but I recall it was a 3M product so should have been good. I’m really enjoying this build, thanks for bringing us along. Take care and stay safe.
Awesome evening brother from another country !!!! Looking awesome !!!! I'm sure the Mrs will be very happy when she takes it for her first spin !!!! Brother you are a true craftsman and you build your art any way you want the critics are irrelevant to your builds !!! The positive suggestions or comments are the true supporters !!!! Stay strong 💪 brother the struggle is real 💯 !!!!!!!
You may want to spray some flat clear on top of the dash and at the base of the windshield opening, to cut down on the glare. That glare can be blinding in certain circumstances, BTDT 😊
I did my "42 Ford Jailbar's dome panel by sticking 1" sponge all over. Painted it all with PVA. Gave it 3 layers glass fiber. Pulled it and coverd it with thin layer sponge, then cloth. Easy plug for dome lining
Damn, have the same job to do very very soon on my son's 62 Mercury Comet that is coming close to the end of the body work. You are right, preparing for paint is what makes this job so painfull. After spending hours to mask everything, you just peel that paper of and it goes to trash - what a waste of time and material!!!!!! Thanks for sharing Div.
"Winner, winner, gets Div a chicken dinner" or some other delectable delights. Don't make it too shiney mate, you'll have to end up "transporting" it on the Reo down to the main road. Cheers.
Looking good..feed a man well and he can achieve anything..You have a good woman there good to see you taking care of her.. Time for a nice steak dinner and couple of beers
Hi brother nice job on the paint, enjoyable watch again. I think I know what’s coming for the exterior 😩 Once you’ve finished practicing on the inside you’re going to carpet the outside too…. 🤣🤣🤣 Lekka man stay safe and well - Michael Uk 🇬🇧
I love it your doing just great it's going to be a great looking ride for mama and the kid's and pups.take your time diff life as you know is way to fast. Enjoyed the video stay healthy and keep enjoying life out in your forest.
Yoooo!! Div, long time since I've sat down and got to watch a video and comment. Hope you and the family are great!! The Reno project is shaping up!! And yes you are right the paint prep takes soooo much time but, happy wife 😉. Hope all is well boet!! Chat again soon!!!
It's looking good .I'd make the cubby door out of wood to match the steering wheel and maybe the inner door pulls the same as for the outside yellow and black to match the inside .reminds me of a fiat 500. I love it.
Looks good. Interior paint on a rat rod is a nice surprise and is more comfortable for occupants. And she wants it so she gets it. I think the back window surround needs to be yellow like all the other window surrounds. Overall nice job. Dan from Oregon
Coming along really nicely - a bit of advice I picked up from somewhere about painting VWs - make sure the paint on the dash is as good as possible, as it's the bit you see most often!
Great job as usual Diff! Spraying the yellow paint with your beard sticking out and the over spray on it. Would you be now known as Yellow beard? Arrge! Keep up the great work brother!
Paint it yellow my brother to make it match the inside. Maybe black fenders so they don’t show rock chips and such as bad. The truck and Renobug are coming along great. We call those glove boxes here in America 🇺🇸 also and yes it would look great made out of wood that matches the steering wheel. Carry on my brother
Even ratrod builders make a shiny hotrod once in a while and vice versa without going overboard. This is a nice build. I use paint basically to protect my work 👌 🇨🇦 👍
It's not the space shuttle.😊 It's a one of a kind, Reno bug. 😊 just don't paint poke a dots and mount 2 antennas. Like a lady bug😳. Kidding my brother. Looks Lekka man. 😊
Remember on the outside, they make a primer sealer before you put your paint on. It comes out as smooth as your paint job. Seals off all old paint primer to give you one uniform surface to paint to
Awesome the painting came out nice a few more details in the dash to match the other wood work with a little color should do nicely and to dull the the yellow if you can get some matte or a flat clear it would do the trick. Can't wait to see what's next Take care Dif.
Looking very good brother Diff 🎉 you should paint the hole car then give it the rusty look after with some clear coat I think it will look amazing ones you done Diff wifey will be so happy 😊 then you'll get second lol 😀👍
nice choice for the color looks great a sliding rag top would look really cool that car easy enough for someone of your skill level to make, painting it would look nice too even that yellow would look cool..
Just a little advice on painting yellow from a retired auto paint rep... I found out years ago, when painting yellow, red, and orange, it's best to spray a white sealer down first. By doing that, the coverage is amazing. Just wanted to pass that along.
Unbacked carpet is ideal for trimming the interior as it forms around compound curves very easily with no cutting or heat needed. Unfortunately for you, your Minster of War and Finance once she clocks the paint job that you have done on the interior is gonna want a matching exterior. Good luck.
I think you should paint the dash a contrasting color rather than more yellow. Something calming and laid back. Wood toned, gray, deep red, something interesting and easy on the eyes…
I think the shiny looks very good on the interior, but I think the outside would be better with a patina job. Just like a good woman. A little rough on the outside, but beautiful on the inside. That’s what I’m talking about.
I confirm that yellow is difficult to paint, I just finished a client's Samurai. I'm fed up with yellow. She's really going to look like a lump of butter (that was her nickname when she came out in France)
Make sure on the outside use an acrylic enamel one step automotive paint. So it doesn’t fade out in a couple years use a harder additive. It will look good when you have to tow momas Reno bug on the REO truck lol. Just kidding but I've never seen a bug that hasn't been towed in my life. Vdubs forever my brother!!!
A wood glove box cover to match the steering wheel would be awesome.
I know you are not crazy about shiny paint but the fresh color looks great. I vote for the same on the exterier

Beautiful job Brother ! Cant wait to see the finished car .
Thanks, I can't wait either! 😀
Dont forget that antennas so it looks like a real bug and maybe a few spots.

I love this little car dude. So much character. I hope she wants to keep the existing paint job
I love the little renobug "bumble bee" . And I feel it is a show car you have done such a good job on it , She will be proud to drive it im shaw .

Awesome work again
Shiny yellow out side with patena 👍🏼👍🏼
Momma said she wants paint so a smart man paint’s. He only ask her what color dear. 😂😂😂
Looks good from here! I'm not a fan of painting... because I'm lousy at it. Cheers
hope your recovering well

As a long time auto painter don't beat yourself up, looks good from here. The more you do the better you will get - so keep up the good work.
I also am a long time now retired auto painter and I agree with you 100%.
We also call it and glove box in the states . Thanks for another , Brother !

All the prepwork and the paint is at least worth of 4 favorites meals.
You did to good of a job on that custom steering wheel! Looks awesome my friend!😊
I can't wait! To see the end result. But, I'm glad you're getting fed properly.. for now, ha ha
Just thinking if you paint the Renobug yellow, you mightn't have enough paint for the REO truck. 😜😜, great video Boet, have a lekka one Div
Beautiful and flashy ! This is a show piece ! Your wife will love it !

Doing a great job!! How about some scallop paint panels. Make that baby a show stopper for the wife.
A real South African sunshine yellow would look good on the Renobug
Your painting looks good to me! Carry on, look forward to your next video.
The Reno bug and the big truck are perfect match...
Looks Great Diff!
finally get to see you show off. cool.
Great job as usual Diff! Spraying the yellow paint with your beard sticking out and the over spray on it. Would you be now known as Yellow beard? Arrge! Keep up the great work brother!

The bumblebeetle.
Nice work as always.

Here in Canada we call that a cubby hole as well or glove box .
I think the paint on the inside looks so nice that she will want the outside done as well
Looks good to me. Thumbs up!

Dirk's build is unfortunately on ice for now. He took on a 6 month contract job. A man's gotta find the dollars somewhere...🙂

Being a solid color, I would recommend just a one step enamel paint with a harder additive. I can save you hundreds of dollars.
WOW!! lookin good gr8 vid Cheers Job done
ah painting yes, i tried it once, u block, block and block some more. if the Mrs's likes it, who care what we think man? lol. looking good mate.
