    Just want to say thanks for sharing as our Ricoh installer missed that step.
    As I was remote I found this setting under config -> device settings -> email -> Auto Specify Sender Name
    I also had to add an email address in the admin email address field.

    Dude, you just saved me from a stress related illness. I couldn't figure out what was going on with my IMC3000 and trying to scan to email. This was exactly what I needed. Thank you!

    I'm seeing this after this error gave me a headache lol. I ended up going to the user in the address book, in the "protection" section. I put a check under "sender", it was already checked for "destination". I never had to do it before and couldn't figure it out. Thanks, I'll try this in the future.

    On this note, does the actual name you have registered as the sender need to be in the address book?

    Didn't have this setting listed on web interface for our MPC2503 even when logged in as admin. Sent this video to our off-site user and he was able to make the change at device without needing admin credentials.

    What if that feature is already turned on and I am still getting that message?

      For people that have the issue I find that turning the feature off, rebooting, then turning it on will usually fix it. Sometimes it needs a FW update.

    Sorry, Mine didn't work :(. I am using MP 3003c and configured the option. But still I am getting the same error. I didn't find the option in Web GUI under Email option. I looked for it every menu. No Luck. Any other suggestion??

      I got the issue. Administration's email was missing in Email configuration page. Both should be configured before using Scan to Email function.

      +Mike Forsythe Well, I'm on a C3503 and it doesn't have it there. Also have C2003 that don't have it there. Maybe the MP301 does.
      The first option on my MFDs on the Email page is the address for emails to come from, but that's not auto specify sender.

    Despite carefully following these simple steps, it didn't work for me either. It still shows the same message.

      I have run into this a few times. Sadly i don't have a hard and fast fix for you on this. What I can say is to try setting up you smtp stuff through the web interface and then trying this step.
      Also powering off and on is a solid option too. Best of luck!

      The Tomato Lesson I figured it out mates. After banging my head against the display, it turns out you have to configure a Sender's Email address. This is how you do it:
      1) Press the options/user tools button on the pad.
      2) Go to General/System Settings
      3) Click onto the File Transfer tab
      4) Scroll through the options and locate Administrator Email Address.
      There, you can input practically ANYTHING (eg: ABC123@DOMAIN.COM)
      Then exit out, and give it a shot.

      Turn off and on then try again. Also note that if you use Gmail you now need to enable 2FA and create an app password to use. Then use the app password as the login.
