    That's a huge compliment. Thank you. Every day, I am just trying to live up to MY great physics teacher from high school. Great mentors are so important. Thanks again!

    i've spent a lot of time learning on line, i've never been happier with an online teacher. you follow the simple rule of teaching as if you yourself were learning it at the same time.
    thanks a mill

    I failed in my first 2 AP physics 2 tests that led to a BIG thermodynamics test. Then i aced my thermodynamics test. How did that happen? I watched the full playlist for thermodynamics by Doc Schuster. You sir are a genius! Hats off and thank you!

      Doc Schuster I don't see a reason why they shouldn't. You do a wayyyyy better job than the teachers! Keep it up!

    I like the brisk pace and how focused the video was. Your drawings and explanations were also extremely clear and helped me understand the material intuitively. This was far more enjoyable than my usual method of just blindly memorizing formulas. Thank you for this!

      Thanks for your kind feedback! I have also noticed that many science lessons are TOO SLOW, so I'm doing my best to move stuff along.

    Wonderful demonstration of Shear, Doc! By Shearing the book at around 7:40, you demonstrated that to understand shear, a solid rectangular body must be thought of as several very thin planes stacked on top of one another. Shearing a solid body must be thought of as these very planes sliding on one another due to the application of a force. Brilliant! You have a gift for teaching.

    Can you explain the tension equation for elastic springs and strings?
    T= (lambda)(x) /lo
    where lambda is the elastic modulus, x is the extension and lo is the original length of the string or spring.

    Doc schuster, Thanks very much...I watch your videos to learn physics regularly....one doubt sir, you told there's a negative sign for B. but isn't delta P proportional to delta V ? is this right?---"more the pressure applied, more will be the change in the volume of that bulk thing".....can u guide me through , sir?.. I feel really blessed to learn from your videos .u r great.!

    • @michaeljagdharry
      @michaeljagdharry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in terms of the magnitude of the change, you're right. but not the direction. pressure goes up while volume goes down

    • @michaeljagdharry
      @michaeljagdharry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      but yes, changing pressure more does change volume more

    QUESTION
    since we are exerting force on the rod, we know as we move away from point of application its effect dec so will the force exerted by wall will be equal to F?????

    Hey there!
    just a small question.. how is the shear stress related to the cutting
    because the particles of paper or something move in (x direction away from each other
    and how is it parrallael to the surface of it) ?!
    thanks alot

    someone who actually explains something to their students!
    My teacher just says, THIS EXISTS BECAUSE IT DOES, AND HERE IS OUR ANSWER AFTER PUTTING SOMESTUFF IN OUR HANDY DANDY CALCULATOR.
    and then stands around for 20 minutes while we are lost completely and he says, NOW READ THE BOOK AND ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE
    he doesn't teach or explain, he doesn't like to grade, and all he does is make the book teach you while he gets food and free soap operas as his students feel mega stressed.

  • @amsarhussain620
    @amsarhussain620 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    One question Sir!
    The pressure has the units of newton per square metre; so as the stress do. So, what is the difference between these two. Are they same?

  • @aibumi01

    Great video..! # Thumbs Up..!
    Since you already talk about the Bulk and his friends..
    is it possible to talk about how they are used in defining the Compressional and Shear wave velocity...?
    like why we only have shear Modulus in shear wave velocity equation, but both shear and bulk modulus in compressional wave velocity... :D
    again, thanks a lot for the video..!

    • @DocSchuster
      @DocSchuster  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan, I have NEVER seen those equations for wave velocities, but I am intrigued. Can you recommend a source where I can learn about them?

  • @alijassim7015
    @alijassim7015 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, can I ask a question? in the bulk modulus when pressure change in my textbook "physics for scientist and engineers" it was defined as -delta F / A- but I don't find this reasonable! because when there is a force acting in all directions and the object tend to change his volume, then there is absolutely change in area. I think change in pressure must be like this -delta F/ delta A-. what do you think ?

    • @DocSchuster
      @DocSchuster  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ahmed markhoos If you mean like, as a balloon is compressed, its surface area decreases, I agree. But I'm not sure just putting a delta there will solve it. The change in area will be small. Really, we need a more careful definition of pressure, I think. Can you find one with a derivative?

    my physics text often seems to choose the most complicated and indirect way to explain what could be a relatively simple idea.... I'm sure the guys writing it are really smart but they SUCK at teaching. almost everyone can eventually possess the knowledge but the really hard part is being good sharing it, thanks so much.
