You should get all the enemys on one line asap and never point your towers across lanes but along them. You use more of your towers range that way.

You loose all of the base level resources but that's it. It can be an issue as then you can't build any more towers. It only really matters when your have just built and island as you can't delete the spawner that comes with it.
