  • The Rock &Roll Hall of Fame Chooses Diversity Over Rock & Roll! 2023’s List o Inductees!
    Hey everyone!
    In tonight’s video I go over each and every inductee to The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for 2023 and give my opinion on whether or not that inductee even belongs on the list or not!
    Has the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame finally got it right this year? Or have they slipped into the all too famiiar pattern o including anyone from any musical style? Has The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame become a shadow o the original intent of honoring Rockers who separated themselves from the pack?
    Of course these and many more questions are answered in tonight’s video!
    And as usual if you enjoy tonight;s video, please consider giving it a Thumbs-Up as that helps the TH-cam algorithm better identify the channel to a larger audience!
    If you haven’t subscribed to the channel as of yet, just hit that subscribe to ‘The Tribe’ button, and then tap that Top-Bell Icon, and you’ll be notified of all my future videos!
    Enjoy!

    Thin Lizzy, Foreigner, The Sweet, Ozzy Osbourne, Warren Zevon, Mott the Hoople, Motorhead, The Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Eddie Money, Boston, Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult, Golden Earring, Foghat, America, Bad Company/Paul Rodgers, George Thorogood, Rod Stewart, Steppenwolf, Todd Rundgren, New York Dolls, MC5, The Wrecking Crew, Uriah Heep, Humble Pie, Peter Frampton, Carole Kaye, Dick Dale, Phil Collins - I probably can think of more who should be in, but I can't right now. In my opinion, any band or musician after 1980 should NOT be nominated before any classic artists are.

      Do you think the Hall lost their cred when they inducted Motown girl group The Supremes in the third year or Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin in the second year? They also inducted The Everly Brothers in the first year and they sound very poppy.
      "Dreeeeeam, dream, dream, dream

      Absolutely! INXS definitely deserves to be inducted. But Jann Wenner had it in for the band ever since the mid-80s when Rolling Stone would only put one person on the cover. Michael Hutchence refused to be alone on the cover and Jann said well Screw You, we will never support your band again. And, they never did. No feature stories, very small reviews of albums and when Michael died, only a third of a page remembrance. Very different than the Australian RS who had them on the cover a few times and lots of great feature stories and reviews. I know Jann has nothing to do with the RNRHOF any longer, but that culture of his nastiness lives on.

    The problem with having a new class of inductees every year is that you are forced to choose from a decreasing pool of talent. The greatest acts of Rock and Roll came from the 60s and 70s. That is not even open to question. It's been downhill since then, so the quality of the artists have dropped in talent and importance.

Rock and Roll came from BLACK Rhythm and Blues. Without Black Artists , you simply DONT HAVE R&R. So,, Why should Black artists be excluded from a genre of music that THEY INVENTED? NO ONE is more Rock & Roll than Link and was a huge inspiration for many to come including Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page and Neil Young He was one of the first guitarists to use distortion. Link also checks the "woke" boxes the hall likes being Native American. Steppenwolf were pioneers in heavy rock who were very successful and had one of the greatest Rock anthems in "Born To Be Wild". Everything you need to know about the RRHOF is in an interview Steve Miller gave back stage there the night he was inducted in 2016. He wasn't impressed! Check it out - lots of videos of it on this platform. AND......here's what Steve Miller told the Georgia Straight paper last year about his thoughts on the RRHOF: "Yeah, it's a very, very, very closed kinda boys' club," said Milller, "that was basically run for years by Jann Wenner, the guy who publishes Rolling Stone. And he was like Louella Parsons or something-he'd dislike some artists, he wouldn't let people in. He controlled everything, and all the time claiming he didn't. But the group that was nominating and picking people were a little elitist I think, and they had different kind of induction ceremonies for different artists. They treated different people completely differently........."I mean there are a lot of people they don't have in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and I can't tell you why, I just know that, after dealing with them..."

Rebellion at its best and actually becoming the band they were portraying on tv and doing it very well is so impressive. Not to mention they have two of pop/rock’s best all time vocals, a very innovative songwriter and a multi instrumentalist. Selling a Kazillion records worldwide, and lasting the test of time 55 years on! Influencing countless artists that are in the hall themselves…..the Beatles, Brian Wilson, Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, REM, U2, Coldplay, Billy Joel, Melissa Etheridge, the Go Go’s, the Bangles, Oasis, Duran Duran, Deathcab For Cutie, Andy Partridge, Weezer, Eric Burdon just to name a few have cited being fans and/or influencing them. The tv series influencing MTV which was later created by Nesmith himself! But that’s ok , no one talks about that!
    Other 60’s artists who need to be in hands down:
    Paul Revere & the Raiders
    The Guess Who
    The Turtles
    The Grass Roots
    Tommy James & Shondells

To my mind, a far greater artist than Carole King ( who learned a lot from Neil ), Again, his exclusion must be a personal thing.

    Where are Cliff Richard and The Shadows? The most influential singer and lead guitarist in the UK, leading to the entire British Invasion. Cliff has just had a Top Five LP in the UK for the eighth decade in a row, outsold only by The Beatles and Elvis. But because he was only a moderate success in America, he will probably never be inducted. To bad, as he's over 80 and deserved (along with The Shadows, who "invented" the lead guitar/rhythm guitar/bass/drums format) to be inducted with Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, The Beatles, The Stones, and everybody else. Lead guitarist Hank Marvin inspired every single "guitar god" in the UK. From George Harrison to Jeff Beck and on and on. He's a LEGEND!

Like so many other rock fans, there are so many acts missing...Foreigner, Styx, Jethro Tull, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Tommy James & The Shondells, Bad Company, Steppenwolf, Grand Funk Railroad, Foghat...the list goes on. Maybe they should have hall of fames for different genres...the pop hall of fame, the rap hall of fame, the soul music hall of fame. I am surprised Frank Sinatra isn't in the rock hall of fame.

    I had this debate, years ago, when ABBA were inducted. A lot of folk seem to be under the impression that only 'Rock' or 'Metal' form the lineage from 1950's 'Rock and Roll'. Rock and Roll at that time and going into the early 60's WAS also regarded as Popular Music. It was also Dance Music, where you danced with your partner. Somewhere along the line (late 60's/early 70's), the sound got heavier and more 'macho', less dance orientated and females drifted more to favouring Pop groups and singers as they could still dance to them and the lyrical themes resonated with them more. 'Pop' as we know it covers a whole range of different styles, crossover and fusions of genres including Rock. Just as Rock and Roll itself was a culmination of merging genres and sub-genres, Country, Blues, Doo-Wop, etc, so there have been different strands that have in turn derived from it. So although a group like ABBA were influenced by European/Nordic Folk Music, their sound is also defined by the staple musical instruments of R n' R. and later Rock Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Keyboards, Synths. Yes, there is legitimate complaint to be had over how some acts who queue jumped and were inducted ahead of others. That causes annoyance as only a select few are chosen each year. But if their sound has a natural lineage from the 1950's R n' R, then they qualify. Some of the inductees do have a dubious lineage for sure.

    • @goplad1
      @goplad1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some inductees have a dubious lineage? I very much doubt that Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton inspired anyone to pick up a guitar and rock out. Unfortunately the RRHOF has blurred the line as to what rock and roll music is all about. It no longer celebrates the spirit of rock and roll music. It's now whoever is popular regardless of music genre. Such a fraud.

    I am 100% with you on this. Everyone one the list is a great artist with in their respective genre. But not all of them belong to the Rock N Roll genre. Now if they rename to the Pop Music Hall Of Fame for popular acts across all genres. Then my only arguments would be "have they been around long enough and have they paid their dues to earn this spot."

    • @cjmiller6741
      @cjmiller6741 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is really dumb. I'm sorry. Pop music IS rock and roll music. It certainly is a lot more like original rock and roll than some of the harder metal acts. Even some of the more Rock-a-billy music like Johnny Cash or Jerry Lee Lewis sound closer to honest rock and roll at its inception than harder rock like metal. Also, rock-and-roll music has always been about challenging the bigotries of establishments. That is why the Hall-of-fame seeks diversity. White people can't appropriate black music and then exclude black people from the Hall of Fame. The same sounds that influenced rock-and-roll, especially jazz and blues, also influenced more country styles of music. Hank Williams and Patsy Cline were cross-over artists who played the Louisiana Hayride at the Municipal Auditorium(which I am looking at through my living room window at right now)the same era that Elvis Presley brought rock-and-roll to KWKH, which only played country music at the time. So you know, pretty much all pop music is rooted in common with Rock-and-roll. It is a diverse music that, by nature and intent, challenges the bigotry of establishment. But the challenge is never, NEVER, pointless. It is knowledgeable and educated, even honed to a laser finish as much as it is ever a basic soulful moaning of the blues or non-descript cry of joy.

      NO, NOTHING but rock and roll, hence the name, ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!

    • @cjmiller6741
      @cjmiller6741 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesadams2334 but Rock-n-roll encompasses a variety of subgenres. Every single category of modern popular music, including rap, and even country have Rock-n-roll influences. Kris Kristofferson was country but came up through rock channels. John Denver was easily a writer of rock and country songs, in the folky style of his day. The Eagles were rock and country. Linda Ronstadt was rock and country. Ray Charles was rock and blues but his best known music was crossed genres. Big band, swing and jazz has been a part of rock music - especially in the 1990s. Almost everybody listens to music from various genres and when they create new rock music they bring those influences with them. Even Broadway style musicals can be rock-and-roll. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice have written and produced several musical that have had hit singles on the rock charts. The earliest rock-and roll sounds more bluesy and country than rock music does today. The only current musician doing real rock-and roll today as it sounded early on is Stephen Sanchez. Harder speed metal bands like Megadeath sound nothing like authentic rock-and-roll in the 50s. Rock-n-roll historically is a blend of musical styles that has a very wide range of influences, and if the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame isn't about preservation of ALL of its styles as it evolved in history(not just hard rock)
