He was asking who would be a good person to study on legato and I mentioned you lol😂, you really have the legato thing goin on… sounds great John keep it up. Main thing I think your great at it stringing your legato together (your phrasing) and ending into bends on the one…. None the less Very inspiring….

Excellent lesson, insights, and tips into how to develop a good Legato so we can improvise cool Lines. I confirmed many things I thought you were doing, but it was satisfying to hear you say them. There is one other thing that I noticed when I was first trying to understand what was going on in your fluid legato improvisations. That was the frequent use of "upbeats" to the first downbeat in the line. I was really shocked how much using upbeats helped me, as I had the habit of starting on the downbeat, and that made my lines sound uninteresting from the get go. I thoroughly enjoy your steam-of-consciousness improvisations, but they seem more like a river, than a stream. 😉Thanks
It's interesting that the 2-string pattern/riff that you like to use has similarities to the famous Pink Floyd Synth riff in "On the Run," at least to my ears. Both have a certain propulsive, hypnotic quality to them.

5:40 "what you practice is what will come out in your lines eventually..." which has always been my thinking intuitively, and I think why I've always only been interested in playing songs, songs, songs. No technical exercises. And maybe, maybe, that's why my own improvisation is, in my opinion, so melodic and full of song-like ideas. I could be wrong. But the interesting thing is, _why_ do people want to achieve different things. Why do you want to play long legato lines, what's the point? Is it worth all the trouble? These are rhetorical questions, of course.
Well for me I'd imagine that folks are asking me about Legato stuff specifically because it's something they've seen me doing - that's all - not saying that it's essential or anything - of course any time someone asks me about how to play melodic stuff - I suggest that they play song melodies

Do you need a certain kind of amp setting or modeller patch for that type of playing to help keep the notes at a similar volume, maybe more gain or compression? Can you play that style on an acoustic?

Ich denke das dein legatospiel schwer nachvollziehbar ist,weil du mal 3 töne pro seite und mal 2 töne benutzt...das macht es für mich irgendwie schwer überschaubar...tolle video
