To me CJ was the clear #1 guy thruout the whole draft process… people get so enamored with the dual threat guys but in the NFL if your QB is playing well he doesn’t need to be out of the pocket very often. Getting the ball out on time and to the right guy is how the game is played at the highest level and CJ is a surgeon in the pocket.
Looking back, the only real negative anyone could find about Stroud coming out of college was his low S2 scores. I feel like we should have known he was good if nobody could find any problems with him on film.
@@forgettablelisaRight! When the scores came out...he was called dumb, uncoachable, non day 1 starter, couldn't read a defense etc. These are literally just some of the things concerning Bryce instead.

That's what "trusting your receivers" mean. You build chemistry in practice. During training camp, that's when CJ really stopped holding on to the ball too long. After a couple of rough days when back-up Davis Mills looked better, HC DeMeco Ryans talked about trusting his receivers so he wouldn't hold on to the ball too long. His timing and anticipation is really instinctive. A type of mental processing that the S2 does not even begin to measure.
Believe it or not Mel Kiper was basically Will Levis’ agent last year. Had him being taken 1st qb off the board. Strangely he knocked CJ for being on a good team with good receivers 🤔
I'm not an expert, but to my non-expert eyes he was clearly the best QB in the draft last year. So while I'm surprised at how much success he's having this early, I'm not surprised that he looks like the best rookie QB.

As a Texans fan, a reasonable outlook going into the season is to have some solid moments to show a culture shift and build momentum for year two under ryans and make a push with a more complete team. What has happened thus far has been surprising, but im not going to say its all sunshine and rainbows, we are gonna have some games where stroud will have greater adversity and the other shoe will drop a bit. then the media will go crazy saying the world is crashing for the texans, but i think we have some solid starters and will make some waves next year and possibly be a force going into year 3 as stroud continues to become a pro. lets see how this o line looks with all 5 starters instead of 4 second/ third string guys holding it together also surprisingly well these last two weeks against the jags and steelers.
Let’s not jump to conclusions to fast he’s been playing outstanding but let’s not put to much expectations on him so soon, every guy hits their rookie wall in their 1st szn and I’m interested to see how he responds when he does, he’s definitely the future franchise QB tho if he keeps it up!
The negative narrative was an ESPN smear job. In college he was the most accurate passer I've ever seen. People said that was due to Ohio State receivers. Not true. He was also mobile around the pocket his entire career. Not a runner but mobile. Criticisms deserved was his unwillingness to take easy runs which he is doing more in the NFL. People also questioned whether he had enough dawg in him. I'd slow the "greatness" role but he basically is the same guy he was at Ohio State.
The kid is making history and people who love football are talking about it. It's like if Hunter Brown was having a Cy Young level start to his career, leading in Ks, and not giving up any HRs. It's okay to enjoy this.
