In 2019, the Columbia Big Band was invited to provide the featured evening entertainment at the Columbia, MD, Independence Day Fireworks at the Lakefront of Lake Kittamaqundi. Naturally, the band was incredibly excited to perform at the hometown celebration, in front of an enormous standing-room-only crowd. The band performed two sets, right up until the fireworks began.
The audio mix is taken directly from the console as the stereo-out mix sent to the mains.
In the pantheon of jazz, Charlie Parker stands as a titan of bebop Sax. His “Yardbird Suite”, titled with his own nickname, is a standard for performances across the decades, from combos to enormous bands like ours. The short arrangement here comes from a collection of “Easy Jazz Classics”, bringing Bird’s legacy into the hands of students and professionals alike.
