  • Can we definitively know the age of the earth from the Bible? While we can’t pinpoint it down to the exact day or year, we can get a surprisingly accurate estimate of the age of the earth if we study the Scriptures properly-and it’s not millions or billions of years old. In this video, we answer these questions and more: What is the age of the earth according to the Bible? Does “day” really mean a 24-hour period? Was the biblical flood a local or worldwide event?
    0:00 - Intro
0:15 - The age of the earth according to the Bible
    2:21 - Two major issues
4:26 - Why we believe in a young earth
6:06 - Theological difficulties of believing in billions of years
11:25 - Can we know the age of the earth for sure?
13:44 - Does “day” really mean 24 hours?
16:56 - What about plants dying before the Fall?
18:07 - Additional support for a young earth
19:42 - Was it a local flood or a worldwide flood?
28:18 - Why does this issue matter?

Then yo udo not have the right text in your possession,
You do not know how many copies there was before the texts that later made up the bible have been copied
Also, the scriptures have been changed many times, take 7:53-8:1 "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." are not original to John's Gospel. Those words were added sometime around the 5th century.

So even if you think millions of years, how did the universe come about? Somehow everything came from nothing. Why not accept the concept that a higher power created everything and therefore why not accept His narrative of what happened? Ya, I know - because we don't want to go along with God's program, we want to do what we want to. Millions of years doesn't explain where everything came from - even now the Webb telescope is showing the big bang theory is wrong.....

Now we look at history of the last 2000 years and see the patterns, the more we have moved away from religion the less violent our society.

@@chrisyoung5929 Shalom, I'm not a very good apologetics person however, that being said, I have read the Bible over and over and over again. Many times in my life. It does indeed show Creator YHVH is a loving GOD. He is also very patient and justice. Only He can bring true justice because he knows each and every person and what is in their hearts. I have experienced His love and forgiveness and discipline many, many times in my life and I have seen it in many others. There is much evidence that the Bible, the WORD of GOD is True. Many prophecies have come to pass and many are coming to pass in our days. John 3:16 " For GOD ( YHVH) so loved the world that He gave His only and unique Son( Yeshua/ Jesus), so that everyone who trusts in Him may have eternal life, instead of being utterly destroyed. For GOD ( YHVH) did not send the Son in the world to judge the world, but RATHER so that through Him, the world might be saved. Those who trust Himare not judged; those who do not trust have been judged already, IN THAT THEY HAVE NOT TRUSTED IN THE ONE WHO IS GOD's ONLY SON." That would be Yeshua/ Jesus. If you ask Him to show Himself to you, He will. The Choice is up to you. 🤔 Father YHVH, please reveal YOUR TRUTH, to this young man. In Yeshua's Name. Kills Children for name calling in 2kings.
He even gets his own son killed just because he is not moral enough to forgive people without bloodshed.

Let the holy spirit guide us all in understanding all truths. Once you understand the great flood and that there were only 8 souls that were saved on Noah's Ark, and how powerful water is, it makes clear sense to me as to how a lot of water in a short period of time can do great things to rock, dirt, soil, etc. We have seen how quickly moving water can carve paths through things in a short period of time.
Regardless of what others may believe, we are living in the end days of the end time and should focus our minds on saving souls, helping those who are confused and looking for answers, and proclaiming God's love and how Jesus was sent to us who sacrificed himself so that anyone who believes in him may live!

The Big Bang theory does not say anything about the actual beginning of the universe. It doesn’t say what banged, why it banged or how it banged. It doesn’t claim the universe appeared from nothing.
What it says is the in the far distant past, the universe was incredibly dense and hot and expanding. At that density and heat, the current laws of nature had not yet existed. So we can not know or understand what was happening before that.
There is no reason to claim that the universe did not exist in some form before the Big Bang. We just don’t know. Maybe it cycles forever in different forms. That is a simpler explanation then adding a god to the system. And simpler explanations tend to be the more correct ones

Verses 1 and 2 of Genesis Chapter 1 form the introduction to what the chapter is about. There is no gap etc., but just normal written expression practice.
One thing that seems impossible to discuss with anyone is "What does the Bible definition for the word "Earth"? What is it that appeared 6000 years ago and got the name of Earth?
If we look at the 3rd day we see God making Seas. We are then told that God called the DRY land "Earth". So obviously the appearance of the Earth was a consequence of God making the Seas. What do Seas have around them... LAND that is a continuation of the land that forms the sea BASIN and that is above the surface level of the water.
If the land became DRY on the 3rd day then it must have been WET before this day, right? The water was not in a basin before this day, which means that it must have covered the whole planet, right? The 2nd day tell us that God turned the middle of the water of verse 2 into a firmament that God named "Heaven". There was a layer of water above "Heaven" and a layer of water below "Heaven". Obviously, it was the lower layer of water that went into the sea basins that God made on the 3rd day. God must have formed the basins in the land referred to as "the Face of the Deep" in verse 2.
It was the DRY CONDITION of the land that gives us the EARTH that surrounds the SEAS. Earth is clearly NOT the planet.
It is clear from the rest of the Bible that our PLANET, as well as the stars, was made by God and verses 1 and 2 make it clear that God made this planet covered by water. We are not told when God made the planet or the universe. The 5th day tells us that WINGED fowl FLY in the Firmament of Heaven, which means that Heaven is the Atmosphere.
The presentations of organizations like Answers in Genesis and Creation International completely ignore the context of Genesis Chapters 1 and 2, which is the conflict between God and Lucifer/Satan over who should rule the universe. What happened in the Genesis creation week was part of God's response to the rebellion of Lucifer and his angels. God made our water covered planet inhabitable and put Adam and Eve on it and told them to fill the planet with descendants. The fall of Adam and Eve did not have to happen. It would appear from what Jesus said that the purpose of Adam and Eve and their descendants was to replace the fallen angels.

As a Bible believing Christian who also has a keen interest in archeological, anthropology, and geology… it’s incredibly hard to understand a young earths mindset. They seem to line up their views based solely on “anti-evolution” but fail to acknowledge the absolute evidence of the antiquity of the earth and its history.
Göbekli Tepe is at least 8000-9000 years old. The Great Pyramids of Giza is now thought to be even older! How can you explain the greatness of megalithic structures? Who built them? How can it possibly fit into a 6000 year old narrative? It’s quite impossible! They would have had to be built before the flood, but young creationists only believe in a few hundred years between creation and the flood which would make it impossible for a global empire to emerge to have the knowledge, man power, and will to build such incredible structures that are impossible today? How can you explain the ancient Samaritan tablets that are older than Genesis? How can you say there was no recorded or written record before Moses wrote genesis which was thousands of years after the flood! _"There is clearly a missing narrative and piece of history that we are not accounting for!"_
Before we reach the specifically Hebrew parts of Genesis, with Abraham and his line, the prior parts are short and schematic and probably learned by heart at some point for oral transmission. Whoever transmitted that the way the Hebrews went, priorised fidelity to source over plentyful material.
I think Mahabharata and Ramayana can be traced to opposite priority - lots of material, and then both harmonising it and introducing idolatry led to misrepresentations of what happened.

    There are some questions though.
For instance: the seventh day in which no creation took place but is God,s rest from his creational activities had no morning or evening and therefore is still ongoing and appears to occupy a seven thousand year period. If all the other six days were the same length then each creation day would be 7000 years long. The number 7 does represent completion on God,s mind. Seven equal days in a week. The Jewish sabbath on the last of 7 equal days 7 years and then a sabbath jubilee year. Forgiveness is 70 x 7.
If you study the bible thoroughly, you get to know the nature of God and how he thinks. He does not appear to do things suddenly but rather takes his time and is consistent.
When God created the fish and the birds, he told them to increase and multiply and fill the earth. Why would he tell them to do this if the earth was already filled. If death did not come about until after the flood, would,t this be a foolish command. If the earth was created, instantly filled with fish and birds, why not, on the sixth day, fill it with humans.
Also Adam was created from the dust of the earth, indicating a technique used by God to create humans. Would this method not apply to anything else.
Seven thousand year creation days give more credibility to bible believers simply because everything had to come into existence in it's turn.
I find it doubtful that death in the plant world did not occure. There are fish minnows that eat algae in which case the entire creature is consumed
.In 7000 years, coral reefs could have been built as coral increased and multiplied to fill the earth. Algae and other underwater vegetation would already have been in place for a variety of fish. There are vegetarian fish. I know of a carp the eats water hyacinth. The fish population probably would have been controlled by the amount of food available It works that way even now. The more Rabbits, the more lynx
After the flood in Noah,s Day, the process of establishing vegetation would have been a slower than usual process. Plants that can live in sand and gravel would have to flourish first to provide humus for the plants that need organic compost to live in. There would be more seeds available than when creation first took place. Lots of seeds survive a water soaking for years. Blueberry and raspberry seeds remain in the forest floor, enduring water deluges and droughts until the forest is cut down thus exposing the ground to sunlight and ideal growing conditions. A several month water soaking would not be a problem in Noah,s Day.
God is allowing 7000 years to establish a righteous new earth. Why not allow everything time to establish themselves also.
As I see it, God uses nature to work out things, not what appears to some to be magic
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. I believe this statement represents a much longer time than part of the first day. Then He directed his attention to the earth. This began the first day.
The universe contains millions of Galaxies including their solar systems, all methodically placed in their relative positions so they do not work in chaos. God has an eternity to accomplish His projects, why hurry.
When Moses wrote Genesis, he probably thought that each day was 24 hours and wrote the word yom in such a manner to indicate this. It is up to us to study the Bible to determine God,s nature and how he works.

I found out something utterly amazing about Genesis, and it took looking at the Legacy Standard Bible, the approved text by AiG. Now it is the assertion of AiG that everything within the text, is without error, and a true historical account of Creation and beyond. What the Bible says therefore cannot be a lie or mistruth, because everything in the text was given to the author from God. There are and can be no errors or contradictions. Everything stated within Genesis is a historical account of actual events. So we have Genesis 4:16-22 LSB "... 16 Then Cain went out from the presence of Yahweh and [j]settled in the land of [k]Nod, east of Eden.
17 Then Cain [l]knew his wife, and she conceived and [m]gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son. The Children of Caiin, therefore came from "outside". Now the text says Cain went out from the "presence" of God, what it doesn't say, is whether or not Cain et al., stopped believing in God, or weren't considered God's Children anymore.

It's simple enough story to relate and get perfectly correct - most Jewish children are able to recite the first 5 books of the bible ( which incidentally is why I suspect they have such phenomenal understanding of maths, physics, business etc. - they have an unimaginably disproportionate influence on the world today ).
There's growing evidence that the alphabet we have today is an outflow of the Jewish nation's birth in Egypt. So even if Adam didn't write, we know for a fact that Moses could and did write the story of our origins - as he was in direct contact with GOD Himself - so God could also have told the creation story to Moses. In fact GOD DID write part of it down with His own finger - the ten commandments - which contains the part of the 6 day creation in verses 8-11 of Exodus 20.

We know from scripture that the earth shook so powerfully that the curtain at the temple of Jerusalem split in two. And that material is like a foot thick. But I could be wrong and the Great Flood did reshape the land. The answer I seek about this will certainly be answered by Lord Jesus when this world passes away.

Here's my concern, Tim, if you read this. The church believed that the earth was flat until Galileo Galilei discovered that it was round, and that it orbits around the sun. The church, convinced by Scripture that the earth is flat and has four corners, with four winds, rejected Galileo's discovery, and he was forced to recant or face death.
Now that we know that Galileo was right, we have been forced to go back to Scripture and reinterpret verses that indicate that the world has four corners, etc. (Job 37, Isaiah 11, Ezekiel 7, and in the NT, Revelation 7).
This was, and perhaps still is, an embarrassment to the church. In Galileo's case, science was right, and the Bible needed to be re-understood in the light of scientific discovery.
BTW, I am a young earth creationist, and I believe that you are right. I just want to make it understood that there are many who want to leave the door open for science to be right, so as not to embarrass the church if it should some day be proven that the earth is, indeed, billions of years old. I don't think that day or that proof will ever come, but I hope you can see that it is a love for the church and a love for the veracity of Scripture that motivates some people to want to leave the door open for a reinterpretation of the creation account.

Maybe the 'church' of which you speak didn't have the scientific knowledge yet to know the earth was round and went around the sun. This church was not always perfectly following God in its history. In other words the church is filled with imperfect sinners like a hospital is filled with sick people. It doesn't discredit the church or the hospital. Both serve a purpose. It won't be until Jesus returns that we'll see perfection.

      >"should some day be proven that the earth is, indeed, billions of years old"
It can never be proven that the earth is billions of years old. The ancient past is exactly that and any theory about about the age of the earth is just a theory. There is NO repeatable experiment that can prove that the earth is billions of years old.
The gold standard of science is the SCIENTIFIC METHOD, i.e a theory that can be tested, observed and most importantly be reproduced repeatedly and indefinitely by experiments.
The "earth is billions of years old" ideology is simply that - an ideology that relies on speculation which in turn is based on assumptions and extrapolation. Every single "proof" of billions of years such as radiometric dating are based on speculation, assumptions and extrapolation.
They all beg the question, i.e they make assumptions about conditions, uniform rates of decay and that extrapolation is valid and then they claim their theory is true because they've made those assumptions. That is not science. That is an ideology.
Science cannot prove age. The only way to know what happened in the distant past is to have a reliable eye witness who was there when it happened.
Science cannot prove the exact date of your birth. Science cannot even prove the age of your car.
You know when you were born only because of your birth certificate. A birth certificate is not a scientific model, it is a record from an eye witness (doctor) who was there when you were born.
You know the age of your car only because of the VIN plate. A VIN plate is not a scientific model, it is a record from an eye witness (someone in the car assembly plant) who was there when your car was manufactured and put together.
The SCIENTIFIC METHOD is what enables engineers to build skyscrapers, bridges, clean running water, sewer systems, electricity grids, power plants, satellites, mobile phones etc that enable modern society.
The scientists who claim they have proof of the age of the earth and universe have NEVER used the scientific method to prove their theories.
Don't be fooled into thinking that science can somehow "prove" the age of the earth because it can never be proven.

The chapters concerning the creation of the world in Genesis are definitely poetic and the narrative is told twice. The second time, it's told in relation to the roll and purpose that mankind has on earth. It's a poetic narrative, but that doesn't negate it's accuracy. God always gives his words in poetic fashions. He gives songs, dreams, and revelations that all have poetic elements because they all fit perfectly in unison with everything else he made in the world. This world is innately poetic. Unless you say those trees did not grow there but were thrown there by the flood, but then the question is how likely is it that many will stand upright and not lay on the side like in rivers - and why they are not found in certain layer below - for example Cambrian or Ordovician, maybe even Silurian; I mean, trees can't climb.
