I appreciate you disclosing your rent. It does help to gauge how plausible it is to move to NYC, which is a goal of mine in the future! Perhaps I'll see you there soon!
Ah ok phew! I'm glad it helped! I was apprehensive about sharing but I knew that it if I was a viewer, I would probably want to know! I feel like it's difficult to find decent spots under $900 but you never know! I hope to see you here one day :)
I just moved cross country to Manhattan and honestly she made it seem so much easier and cheaper then it truly is. It is SO hard. Her rent is SO SO cheap and not common
Same but I'm Irish, I am planning going to NYU so I'm very scared to live a 7h flight from my parents and family, having no friends being so far away from my culture but I've still got a few years so I'm planning like hell
im sorry mom but moving to ny has been my dream for such a long time. I have everything planned, and im here to tell you it all :) at age 16, ill get a job at a fast food restaurant, and me and my bsf will save up enough so that right when we graduate we hop in the car and take the 2 hour drive there. some people will say my dreams will be crushed but i will continue to work hard to achieve this, no matter whatever i go through, I WILL ACCOMPLISH THIS. edit: hey guys!! its been 6 months so heres an update: im no longer moving with my best friends since they thought it was some joke, so im going by myself instead!
Try attending creative mornings in NYC! It's a free guest lecture series that is geared towards the creative community. I'm a graphic designer who regularly goes to the one here in San Diego and have made so many great friends and business connections through attending. It's a great resource if you want to surround yourself with more people in the creative industry.
I moved to NYC from Alabama without ever visiting NYC and at first it was a huge culture shock for me but once I got comfortable with the city I fell completely in love with it! So happy you feel that you’re meant to be there right now. That’s a really great feeling to have!
Sara Giles I’m from North Alabama and hope to be able to afford to move to NYC within a year or so. I spent a week there in last year and it just felt like it’s where I’m supposed to be. It’s such a magical place and a refreshing change. I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only person from Alabama with NYC dreams, Lol. (:
I'm from Chicago although I admit the 4 seasons ARE nice (when we get them, winters here lasts a really really long time) Id love to trade it for sunny Cal where I can go anywhere and there's beautiful mountains and the ocean...no having to warm up your car before going out or scraping the ice of your car😤
Tatiana Ringsby lives in New York, she's a TH-camr! Y'all should collab one day! And it's so cool how you are an independent woman. I mean I couldn't imagine moving across the country by myself.
You..Are..REAL!! I hate all the NY Vloggers when they show us places without a budget, like whats the point? & as you said its not nosey, its because its helpful. SN: I was moving to LA 3 months ago, then went to NY last month and was like..hold up! LA can wait a year lol. moving to NY
I am soooo Proud of your journey Watching your old videos gives so much confidence and courage to start something of your own... NYC is literally the dream... been there for 6 days but you can't get enough of it. CAN YOU?
I'm moving to Paris from NYC by my own too. I've moved to Paris from California 4 years ago, but NYC is so much more stressful! Scared but so exciting at the same time! Thanks for the video ! xx
Your video was EXTREMELY helpful. I am learning how to navigate a much bigger city than where I am from and these tips were exactly what I needed to hear. Meeting new people has been difficult but your suggestions are just what I needed to know. Definitely inspired by how brave you have been to move so far away from home and put yourself out there meeting new people. Thank you for this video. :)
I've just moved abroad on my own too (to China from the UK) and man, this video is so nice, it's cool to hear about how you're getting on. Makes me a bit jealous but inspires me to do stuff for myself. Hope you keep loving NYC!
My favourite thing I owned when I moved out was one of those granny shopping trolleys. Literally a life saver for all grocery and general shopping trips. I still take it to the local hardware store to carry plant pots home. Highly recommend getting one!
Lots of great tips in this video! THANKS A BUNCH!!! Also, I wanted to add that I've heard that an ideal budget for how much you can afford to pay for rent is to find a place that costs less than 30% of your monthly income.
I wish you wouldn’t say the streets of Williamsburg look sketchy. That’s the issue with people and a lot of white people who move to nyc. People who are from nyc living their normal lives shouldn’t be categorized as sketchy or ratchet. You live in Williamsburg out of all the places...it is quite expensive to live there. It shows every time when people someone moves here they want act like they are struggling when in reality they aren’t. Anyways peace ✌🏾
they kind of do look sketchy... so do the streets everywhere in new york and in other places. she didn't say the people were sketchy and she NEVER said the word "ratchet" so i don't know why you're getting all high and mighty when there's no need to lmao.
Sweetie I know what I’m saying. There are implications in her statement. I’ve lived in NYC for 4 years now and I’ve heard so many times people saying statements like this. It’s dangerous.
You have absolutely no clue how I excited I am for this journey and to be able to follow it with you because I want to move to New York so badly but I am currently going to school in San Diego and I plan on finishing college first before I move!! If you could please do as many vlogs as possible and also more info videos on how you managed to afford to live in NYC and the steps you took so I could go through this journey myself I would literally love you forever
*HITOMI?!* I actually just realized that it’s a dream of mine to live in NYC just this year, and literally I was wanting to move there when I was in my twenties after finishing school😂 I loved this sooo much! It makes me pumped and inspired for the future! 💕
man what you said about nyc having an individualistic culture...its so true! but people arent mean theyre just rough and i think its just a part of the vibe of the city
You are such a bold soul! Idk if I’d ever have the courage to take that big step by myself!!! Props to you girl 😘😘. How much do u make on TH-cam? I didn’t know one could support oneself on just TH-cam, I hope everything works out!
I moved from NJ to London for about three years and I totally get what youre saying about transport. Simple things like a trip to IKEA were so exhausting just because of the time/effort it took to get home and back
Such a helpful video!! When I first moved to NYC I used craigslist for finding a sublet (I honestly don't know if I would recommend because it's super hit or miss). After I moved around a few times and was finally ready to sign a full year lease for a place, I found this app called livewith, and I used it find both my current roommate and apartment. I'm pretty sure the app is free, I didn't have to pay any service fees or anything. Hope this helps someone making the big move to nyc!!!
I'm more than willing to be your friend here in NY haha. You made a cross country move on your own and are making it work. This is honestly so inspiring to me. I've wanted to start a youtube channel since 2011 & never did, but this video inspired me that any time is a good time to do something you've always wanted to do.
Girl I love your videos and I love that you're in New York! Something that I've noticed about people who move here is that they pay too much for the apartment they choose. I know being closer to Manhattan and living in Brooklyn is always the goal but you could've gotten your own place (thats not a walk up) for the price that you're paying. I say for your future moves to different places, try to find people/youtubers who have lived in those cities for majority of their lives and you would probably get a better insight of more affordable areas to live within that city. But again, happy you're here in NY. Live it up girl :)
I love Williamsberg! Don't be worried about anything sketchy! My aunt lives there and she loves it because there is so much to do EVERYWHERE!!! Good luck on your new journey! I know I'm like really late lol :)
Also Bumble offers a "Find Friends" feature where the only people on that part of the app are looking for friends! I've used it a couple times and found it really helpful for bigger life changes where meeting new friends isn't always the easiest!
Thank you so much for a candid video. This was very useful for anyone who wants to move to NYC, or anywhere new for that matter. It's always been my dream to live in NYC, and I am hoping to move their a couple years after I graduate college.
A) RoomieMatch is great. TOTALLY worth the $20 and it’s good for a year. You fill out something similar to a dating profile - how do you feel about one night stands? How long do you leave leftovers in the fridge? Morning or night showers? One night stands? It was great. It matches you with people who are looking for a new lease based on your percentage of how well you get along with people and I got a TON of matches in the DC area. You also get matched with people who are posting rooms for rent! B) this video was so god damn inspiring in my life right now. Crazy that it was on my feed at this time - and this is my first video of yours I’m watching. Much love, good luck.
How much I wish that I would’ve moved to NYC at 21, but I was way to scared to leave. But at 27, I (and my husband) am finally moving to NYC this year. Still super scared but I’m beyond excited!
I loved your video!! it was so helpful knowing these tips because I'm moving to New York in June/July and vlogging my whole process! can't wait to share my experience with everybody!!
Girl, go live up your dreams!! Tbh, I’ve always wanted to live in New York, but I just never made it possible. I’m from Cali, and I’ve graduated college for 2 years so SoCal is still home for me. Props to you for pushing yourself to the limits 🙌🏼 Cali is always here for you! ❤️ living vicariously through you ☺️☺️
after watching this video, I immediately sat down and filmed for the first time in months. your content reminds me of the fun of youtube: the art of film, capturing snapshots of life, and sharing experiences. thanks for being you, elena :) ps have you reached out to Michelle Reed? she's a youtuber in NYC and a super sweet gal
I’m in LA now and too want make the jump and move to NYC!!! It’s been such a lifetime goal for me and I keep making excuses about money and time and work etc. I need to put on my big girl pants and just JUMP!! Question: How and where did you find your roommate/ room if you don’t mind sharing? There’s tons of apps out there and being in CA you know it’s hard to find a place when you’re not physically there to see your surroundings! Thanks so much!!
Elsewhere, House of Yes, Win Son, Featherweight, Champs, Topaz, Robertas, Lua, etc....Montrose is dead center and easy walk to the best of Bushwick and Williamsburg/Greenpoint. Good choice
Have you heard of Brett Conti? He's a photographer and a Vlogger in NY. Even if you don't meet up with him I highly recommend anyone wanting to move to NY check out his channel. He knows a lot of chill/fun spots to hang out and sight see.
I’m moving there for college in the fall.. I just visited it for the first time last week. I’m so excited but a little nervous. I’m from Chicago so living in a city won’t be too different but New York is literally like 5 Chicago’s in one. Its still intimidating 😭😭😭💗💗
i’ve lived in new jersey my whole life and i’m always in the city as i live 25 minutes outside manhattan and i plan on moving into manhattan i’m so excited!!
Hi there Elena, I am a new subscriber to your channel. I have moved around a lot during my life, but I think that you are braver than me :) I enjoy your honesty and your willingness to show your vulnerability on screen as you have in this video. I really wish you the brightest future. I look forward to living vicariously through your vlogs. 😀
ELENA! You have to try to meet up with Katy Bellotte...she is a younger and loves in the city too...plus she works for L’Oréal Paris! You two would be perfect friends!
The intro was so beautiful and you're literally living my dream😍i hope you enjoy your life there wish you the best of the best you can't guess how much happy I am for you!❤️
I felt that public transportation makes commuting much easier vs having a car. I was trying to find friends in this way in San Francisco but even in a couple of month of constant attempts I still met no one. Feels like everyone has more important things to do but yet so not plan too long ahead
Just stumbled on this video... omg, you have the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen! The shape and colour, along with your dark thick brows is perfect! Beautiful... cool video, still watching but had to pause and comment.
I'm so incredibly happy for you!! This was such an informative video (even though I'll probably never move to New York, but maybe to another big city somewhere around the world!)
I miss NYC so much 😖 I wish i could’ve stayed there forever, I am going back pretty soon though 😌 hopefully in the summer! It’s been over seven years since I’ve seen the pretty lights and the Statue Of Liberty 🗽

Did you do it yet?
I moved to Berlin from the U.K on my own, it's the best and craziest thing I've ever done! Paris is next!!
SAME! Paris is next for me too ;)
Been in Paris for two years. Hardest thing I've ever done but so so worth it! Visit and trail it before you do it and LEARN French before you come!
Hope you like my home city :)
I’ve been to Paris only for a holiday tho

Watching your old videos gives so much confidence and courage to start something of your own...
NYC is literally the dream... been there for 6 days but you can't get enough of it. CAN YOU?
Girl, how do you have the courage to just jump on a plane and hope for the best? I love that. I need to take more risks.
Wow lol first time someone has actually said how much their rent is what a miracle AND says HOW they can afford the rent! Sheesh! A godsend!
I'm moving to Paris from NYC by my own too. I've moved to Paris from California 4 years ago, but NYC is so much more stressful! Scared but so exciting at the same time! Thanks for the video ! xx
My goal is to move to France by next year!! Any advice?

Ah so amazing! You go gal
Life really looks good on you rn. So excited for you.

I just discovered you from this video and i'm already obsessed with you. Welcome to NY!! You'll love it here..most the time...
My favourite thing I owned when I moved out was one of those granny shopping trolleys. Literally a life saver for all grocery and general shopping trips. I still take it to the local hardware store to carry plant pots home. Highly recommend getting one!
omg brilliant !! i need to get one
She didn't say anything wrong. You don't know exactly where she lives. I don't know why her face has anything to do with anything
they kind of do look sketchy... so do the streets everywhere in new york and in other places. she didn't say the people were sketchy and she NEVER said the word "ratchet" so i don't know why you're getting all high and mighty when there's no need to lmao.
Sweetie I know what I’m saying. There are implications in her statement. I’ve lived in NYC for 4 years now and I’ve heard so many times people saying statements like this. It’s dangerous.
Gillian Bennett I can get all high and mighty because statements from white women are very dangerous. I know what I’m talking about.
explain how it bothers you please
I said it before and I’ll say it again, WE ARE ALL SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!! 💛💛💛
AH THANK YOU!!!!!! You don't know how much this means to me!!

I felt that public transportation makes commuting much easier vs having a car. I was trying to find friends in this way in San Francisco but even in a couple of month of constant attempts I still met no one. Feels like everyone has more important things to do but yet so not plan too long ahead
