  • Since the 1974 model, PORSCHE has developed a new chassis to comply with American safety standards, and launched the Type 930 model with rubber-type impact-absorbing bumpers on the front and rear. The initial model uses a chrome-plated mirror. This 911S is a regular dealer car imported to Japan in March 1974. The 911S with a displacement of 2.7L has a maximum output of 175ps. The 911S, which is the initial model of this type 930, is as light as 1.060kg and has a body size of 4,300mm x 1610mm x 1,310mm, so it can be driven with the same size as a narrow Porsche. The engine generates a lot of torque from low rpm, so you can drive without stress even in situations where stop-and-go is repeated in the city. The non-power steering is not too heavy and conveys accurate information to the driver. The clutch is also light, and it is easy to grasp the meat point, so it is easy to operate the half-clutch. The transmission may take some getting used to, but it has a high rigidity and can be operated quickly like a sports car for up and down shifts. The cornering manner is set with a slight understeer and the suspension stroke is a little large, so I think you can enjoy a very pleasant drive feeling with quick acceleration using the characteristics of the rear engine by firmly utilizing the load transfer. In particular, the ability to cruise on highways at high speed is so stable that it is hard to believe that it is a 1974 model, and it does not give fear to the driver. I think this is a benefit of the highly rigid 930 chassis. The interior uses a classical fabric seat, and I think it's tailored to match the bright body color very well. As for the brake, the S caliper was overhauled and replaced with a new brake rotor and brake hose, so it is necessary to step on it firmly because it is non-servo, but braking from high speed can be performed stably. The fun and exhilaration that can only be experienced by the Porsche 911 of this era, such as the ease and ease of handling like a pair of sneakers that are not found in new Porsche, the compact size, and the seat that does not get tired even when driving long distances. I think it's attractive. It is a lightweight sports car that can be enjoyed from everyday use to long touring.

I also owned a 911/S 2700 ( a black Coupé m.y. 74) and yet being not as exciting as the former 2200S - 2400S it actually was almost as fast with lower fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions. Thanks for sharing !

@@YutakaYamagishi Well, here in Italy the 911
was a best seller in the 70es and still it is today!!!
      I entered the 911 world with a preowned 2400S
190 hp and this is the best ""classic"" model as for my personal experience.
I couldn't afford buying new 911 but fortunately we had a wide preowned market and following the fabolous 2400S I owned 2000S/2200S/2700S and then the rare Carrera 3.0 200hp.
Later on I owned the SC 204hp and the Carrera 3200...You know Sir, we live only once 😊
However my humble personal ranking list is:
=2400S a crazy power at 7300 rpm with full reliability
=Carrera 3.0 (underrated at the time but a great engine with the Turbo 3000 block)
=SC 204hp may be the perfect compromise between performance and practicability.
Again, that's an extremely personal rating.
Thanks for your truly professional reports and
your brilliant driving, I'm going to subscribe 👍
