Having gone through this in a hurry with my voice a while ago, listening to the piece for real, and coming back after completing all of the lessons up to Kurd with my voice I tried the opening on viola, but my technique is not consistent to bow it yet. Still, helped learning the positions for Hijaz. Just came back today and tried this on the Lumatone keyboard in my 53-tone tuning, and while it's not entirely perfect, it's really nice to be able to use the comma and semi-comma distinctions in the tuning to enable what you've been consistently demonstrating, and very occasionally explaining, about intonation e.g. between the seconds of Kurd, Hijaz, Bayati/Saba and Nahawand/Rast. I might practice this up a little and then send you how it's coming along. Obviously it sounds rather different with a piano timbre, and perhaps a little alien with the larger minor seconds of Hijaz, but being able to alter any note by 25c comma or occasionally 13c semi-comma is so necessary in this kind of repertoire. Of course fixed pitch intonation in any sense isn't ideal, but coming back to this after using my voice and viola it makes much more sense. Thanks again! Will try to learn some of the verses soon!

thanks for the lesson, I am curious to know how long does it take you to learn say this piece as an example, in term of repetition , approx? I know it depends on the difficulty of each song or piece.. I mean to have an idea is it like 20 times or 100 times.. I find some pieces are easy this one I knew it since I was a kid.. but I do not remember how many times I have listened to it... so have you ever counted the times you listen to a piece to master it? on average or your students on average how many times they would listen to a piece before master in it. I am just curious.
