- Today Max and I take out my friend Pawel and his son, Alex, out of the East Chicago Marina onto Lake Michigan for the first Coho of the year. Pawel is just getting into salmon fishing on his own boat and wanted to hop aboard to learn some pointers about salmon fishing the South end of Lake Michigan. We ended the day 17 for 24 or so as the wind finally kicked us off the lake. We would have had a limit if it wasn't for the wind. Watch until the end to see what baits took most of the fish. Thanks!! @@BigLakeLittleBoat haven’t been yet. Had a plan last week to Michigan City but no one was catching. I custom make all my own tackle so I’ve been itching to get out there and try some of my thin fins, peanut flies and dogers and some other baits I make

Thanks for another great video! When you guys use keel weights for thin fins how much of a leader do you use and what weight do you go with usually?
We are running them clean without keel this time of year but here in a few weeks we will throw them on. We use .5 oz up to 1.5 oz. Lighter weights on outside boards heavier weights inside. We use a 6’ fluorocarbon leader
What size thinfish are you running if you don't mind sharing? 2.5" or 3"?

Great video, and tips! Glad to see they have started! The wind has just been brutal so far this spring! 3/24 more boats out of St. Joe, and more pier, and beach fisherman. What's your trolling speed? 2-2.5 mph?
Thanks, Chris. Our speed with cranks and spoons is 2.8-3.0. Once we throw dodgers out there it will be 2.5
Are you guys setting your boards to release upon a fish strike or stay clipped at both attachment points?
We like to take the boards off. Lately our church boards have been slipping on us. We need to make some modifications to them.
@@BigLakeLittleBoat that’s actually why I was asking…I’ve got mainly church walleye boards setup from the factory but I bought a few Sam’s pro releases to try on them. I’d be interested to see what modifications you guys do as well
