First time I have seen a new born being fed that way. Very tame Mother for sure! some are real rangy when calve is born.
The first milking is so critical!!
This was one of my favorite videos❤❤❤❤❤❤ I love when you are working with the cows❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fantastic to see the interaction between you and the calf, you clearly care a lot.
beautiful Heifer there really good conformation , nice square udder , and such a nice calf , that is definitely something to be proud of
We buy our orange ear tags from Genex by the 100 because we milk 450. We tag our heifers in both ears and our beef in one ear. So we hardly ever have a cow lose both tags
when i milked my swiss i had my feed guy a few of them and my dairy supply guy tell me all the time feed milk replacer? when i quit i was getting $17.84 per hundred pounds and milk replacer at that time was $68.00 a bag. i told all of them that makes NO sense? 68.00 for 50 pounds OR $17.84 for 100 pounds? they wouldnt talk to me no more ha ha. BUT they would always say put the milk in the tank for the money THEN turn around and waste the money on high priced milk replacer. mine stayed on whole milk for at least 2 months.
Makes sense to me David that it makes no sense to use feed milk replacer.
Yes always interact with animals help to handle them lol herd that rooster love it
Great video. First time I have seen a vacuum line in the calf barn. Good idea.
Our Jerseys are the same way. The ones who follow you around and let you make all over um seem to be the ones that wanna PLAY HOOF IN YOUR MOUTH DISEASE!!! lol. Have found over the years, put the two year old springers in with the cows about two weeks before they calve, Let them come through the parlor, give them some parlor feed while they are in there and touch them and work their udder. Of corse not to much, just kinda maybe rub the fingers a little over it. Then when they come in, its not so much a shell shock to them, Kevin from Ohio. Great Video as ALWAYS!!!
We take a soldering iron and etch the number in the tag then trace over with the marker so if it fades you can still tell her number
Love the buckets. Those are the kind we still use to milk our 50 cows. My Dad was offered quite a bit of money for them but not enough to pay to put in pipeline. So nice when the heifers take to the milkers without much fuss. Fancy calf I think I saw a little roan on her neck.
You treat your animals so well and are so in touch with their needs. Such a pretty calf. I miss them. I love how mom is watching and checking on everything you're doing. Thank you for sharing the video. Stay safe, and God bless.
Nice looking bull calf he would be a good herd bull
Really liked this video. It felt very relaxed and I loved the beautiful cow and her calf. Hope the weather gets better soon. We (Mid-Michigan) are expecting a high of about 74 today (Wednesday) and then storms and highs in the 50's for the rest of the week. Hope your weather moderates some soon and the snow actually melts away. Take Care.
when I was a kid I found a old neck tag it was plastic was gold flake with black numbers and a clear epoxy over the entire tag haven't seen it since we moved in 07 even back then I was like this tag was $$ and was built to last. I now have dairy goats and wish I had 20 just like it.
I really want to learn alot from the ways you doing farming in America given the fact that am an agriculturalist by profession.but doing it from Africa
Nie sądziłem że w Afryce sa widzowie zainteresowani rolnictwem amerykańskim 😊 jestem z Polski. Poland
Thanks for the video. That is a cute calf and a nice cow. She looks like a good Mom and a good milker. 😊
Nice job working with your freshened cows and calves 😊
That’s what I enjoyed about working on dairy farms. You got to spend time with the cattle they get use to you being around them makes things a lot easier. Great job guys.
I remember the tin tags. My grandpa had a bunch of those on his cows. I don't know what is best it seems like they all come out or fade. I've sharpied a bunch of them like George was saying.
I’ve had best luck with Ritchey engraveable tags. I really enjoy the videos, thanks!
I remember a few of the old metal tags. I thought ours were some sort of brass or bronze material. I think some of the original cows my dad bought in the early '60s to start his herd had those metal tags.
Colostrum is LIQUID GOLD!! Thanks 😊.
❤ totally loved this video of the new calf. You guys do so good and treat the cows amazingly. Can't wait till the next one
I’ve had good luck with Allflex tags holding up for the life of the cow. The odd one can fall out but I’ve seen them rip an ear before the tag fails if it gets stuck on something
Great video guys. 👍
Oh boy my favorite style of milker milked many of cows with that style of a bucket milker
Does the rooster own that barn? He seems to be in it alot. Do you have a seperate chicken coop? Interesting video - beautiful calf - too bad most of them end up hamburger or steak.
Get a 3-d printer and make them for almost free You could raise the numbers so it takes a long time to wear out . Print them for pennies
Like you guys stuff!
We start training our heifers when they start bagging. Then they freshen in the barn.
With her size, I'd have said at least 2nd calf.
I remember well, being a kid in the 90's, rolling the dice on if this cow is going to try to pin me, or kick.
You get to know when they crane their neck and give you that look!
thank you
I have a couple metal tags. If you could find them that’d be the way to go.
With us in France, the labels or buckles are provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and must be placed on the calf before the age of 7 days. If an animal loses a loop, it must be replaced under penalty of sanctions, anyway the animal cannot leave the farm without being looped (one loop in each ear).
I've always said, there's nothing prettier than a new calf
A new red one is prettiest! Years of blk and white, ugh. Up to 6 reds now.
That heifer/cow seems to trust you guys with her calf most other breeds not very friendly.
The best way I found to keep track of cattle is the old fashioned way by writing it down in a cattlemans book. Because tags don't last long
I use the 2 piece ear tags. Used to use the one piece but the back breaks off at 3-4yrs
Ritchey ear tags
Enjoyed the video
Try premier 1 for your tags that’s where we get them I like the stags you can personalize tags through them also
What about freeze branding the number on shoulder or hip
good thanks
Better late than never lol
New life.
Can’t you brand them
Used 4 of them milkers to milk are cows. Years a go
Arron in your last video you didn’t have your beard and in this one you do how can that be
👍
Shame on you Arron
Thank you
