Great experiment! Take it a step further by mixing it with your different mediums. You will not be disappointed! My fave mixture is with the glossy gel medium. Taking that color mixture and running it over your stencils gives a beautiful 3d shimmer to your page. Try it! I am now off to try the distress stain mica mix. I can't wait to see the results. TFS!
Really cool! I was a skeptic all throughout the demo. Lol. And I didn't know about paint being opaque and the stain being translucent so another great lesson. Thanks for sharing.
Oh Jenny great video.....WOW I just purchased my first Perfect Pearls so gosh I'm super excited about your video and I do have distress stains....so WOW thanks for giving this a try and sharing....I have Perfect Pearls in the bottle not powder but I will still give it a try. GIRL YOU so ROCK!! Joan Smith
This was great! I've also been wondering about using distress stains vs inks for watercoloring. I don't know if there is a difference or not, and what the difference would be? Maybe a test is in order? I don't see a lot of techniques with the stains, but am intrigued by them. Thanks! :-)
+ibkristykat actually, there is gin Arabic IN the Perfect Pearls powder- and water activates it. Just to be technical about it. That's what separates PP from Pearl-Ex; the latter doesn't have a binder in the powder and therefore you have to add one.
I have something for you... Use (good) Food Coloring Gels... like Welton... or reg. food coloring for pastel colors... it is amazing! I make them, when I'm teaching ART for younger children... but I also use them too.
Try using just the Perfect Pearls with water on black card stock. It is just stunning and no extra pigment is needed.

I love the idea with the stains! Thank you
I use Pearl Ex Mica powders with my artists grade watercolors like Winisor & Newton, etc and they look great.
Thanks for sharing your method of making some sparkly paints!
Gorgeous! I have a lot of Perfect Pearls and Distress Stains....can't wait to put them together! TFS, Heather
I use my Perfect Pearl powder as paint on black paper. They are much bolder and prettier, especially the metallic!

I wrote to Ranger for tips on how to set the PP and they said to spritz with water. So water is the binder.

Has anyone tried mixing Perfect Pearls with hairspray on hair?
Have to make me some sprites. I don't buy any because of the price. Thanks for sharing.
