give me a brake standing there like a jerk moving your finger around as the pilot starts the engine, get out of the shot so you don't ruin it . the pilot does not need you. beautiful engine, beautiful air craft , jerk in the shot.
You clearly don't understand starting procedures for these old radials. He's signaling to keep cranking until the engine catches and there are no exhaust fires or anything like that. Safety redundancy.
Dad was stationed at nok kom phenom (naked phanny) around that time ill have to ask what his squadron was. I do know that his squadron and a sister squadron dealt with the EC-121
@@lloydh4251 Thanks for the reply. That would have been way after my dad's time at NAS Memphis, he was stationed there in the late '50's. He was already married to mom and out of the Navy by 1970.
They sure are. I always found they look a little "wrong" because the cockpit and engine look too small for the rest of the massive bird! It's what makes them so interesting and imposing.
That looks like one I used to work on when I was at Udorn RTAFB. They moved from there to Nakom Phanon while I was at Udorn. Nakom Phanon was often called NKP or Naked Fanny.

Does the guy in the BRIGHT yellow shirt, and plaid shorts not see that the pilot is attempting to start the engine, no matter how many times his finger goes around in a circle...
Hey.....dude in the dayglo shirt! It's a prop plane. I think the pilot can see that the prop is turning. Now go away, and go get me some blinker fluid.
Hey dude, he's signaling to the pilot to keep the starter going because the engine hasn't caught yet, the starter is turning the prop at that point, not the engine. You clearly know nothing about what ground crew do for pilots so keep your mouth shut next time you'll look like less of an ass.
He's signaling to keep the starter going, because the engine hasn't caught yet, redundancy keeps you safe. Also if there happens to be an exhaust fire or something along those lines you see the guy stop twirling his finger that means you stop cranking.
The dude standing out there waving his finger around and around and around really only needs to do it ONCE!! Once the engine starts turning, what's the point?
The engine wasn't turning yet that was still the starter turning the prop, that guy was signaling to keep the starter going until the engine catches, you clearly know nothing about aircraft or ground ground crew. Take that hint you won't look like such an ass next time.

You see that finger stop twirling, you stop cranking, no matter whether the engine has started or not, he's spotted something that you didn't.
I was an A1 crew chief with the 6 th SOS at PLEIKU, VIETNAM in 1969 and at NKP THAILAND. Glad to see some of the old friends flying.

When I was a USN Aircraft Plane Captain. I would cold start A1 Skyraiders every day. 1960-1966.
Big, tough, flying dump truck! Beautiful!
love the sound of those radials
Greetings from the UK, did not expect to see an American’s Naked Fanny getting fired up on TH-cam.
So cool, but it’s always kind of funny to me when the props match up with the frame rate! Glad old things like this are still around.
Got to start one when going through training in Memphis 19 years old, legs were shaking face was smiling:)
What year was that? My Dad was stationed at Memphis for a while, that's how he met my Mom.

The Skyraiders were some serious Aircraft!!!!!
Not sure aviation gets much better than watching this old girl belch out some puffs of smoke and then start humming! :D
Good looking aircraft.
These planes are huge when you stand next to them.

Did you guys ever share ramp space with the B-26/A-26K guys?

AD Skyraider I saw one of these at a local airport just like this, about 1960.
The most awesome beast I ever saw. It was at an air show at Lydd Airfield in Kent, England.
Nice to see a 'Spad' in flying condition. I really would like to see one with Snoopy nose art.
Outstanding loitering capabilities.. saved the ass of many a ground soldier and downed pilots.. what a gorgeous war bird..
Sandy sounds good.
There's a beast.
Sea Fury is another.
❤ Sandy!
Sounds like freedom.

Global shutter. Don't see that too often anymore.
Watched those in Vietnam.
That's an engine, not the modern Tesla crap.

Too bad the dork in the yellow shirt was in frame. I guess he saw that in a movie somewhere.
