    What capacity model Oase biomaster canister filter model is needed to filter a 180 gallon tank? ( 120cm×60cm×70cm ) tank with 12 to 14 adult discus and some tetras, Cory's and a siamese algae eater.

    • @LitiAquaria
      @LitiAquaria  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, your tank is quite big in volume (about 500L). For planted tank, normally I try to get the filtration turnover about 5-10 times of tank volume, means about 2500L/hr to 5000L/hr capacity. It would be the best if you can run 2 x Oase BioMaster 850 for that tank (1550L/hr x 2 = 3100L/hr).

    Shouldn't the mechanical media go in the bottom tray as in this filter the water flow is bottom tray to top tray?

    • @LitiAquaria
      @LitiAquaria  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Edward, one good thing about OASE BioMaster filter is the pre-filter module. That pre-filter, it is actually the first "mechanical media" that screening all the debris before water go to the bottom tray then to top tray (final mechanical media, red sponge). It will be very convenient for filter maintenance, we can just take out the pre-filter module and clean that only. The rest should be very clean. 😊

    Beautiful multicoloured planted tank. How big is the tank in L×B×H? Very descriptive information about the filter without uttering any words. The power of sign language. One thing i do want to ask with CO2 doesn't it lowers the PH levels because there's a theory of 'Aging water'. Can CO2 be used in a discus tank?. As for Oase 850 Biomaster..it's truly a live giving Oasis relating to filtration in fish keeping hobby.

    Installed the 850T this weekend but somehow every x minutes it's blowing air bubbles via the outflow out of the filter. No idea why or where it can be leaking air....... Never had this issue with the previous eheim filter so not sure yet why it's happening :( Is this also happening on yours?

    • @LitiAquaria
      @LitiAquaria  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have noticed that from my filter once in a while, too. Normally it happened when the prefilter is dirty and need some wash. For newly setup filter, it takes sometimes for water to fill in the unit properly and air trapped will gradually pushed out.
      You can do some checking on the connection of hose and inlet pipe to see if there be any chance it is not tighten? If it is not, then air can be sucked into filter unit together with water and causing the issue of airbubbles too. :)
      Having said that, if the flow rate is not affected much, I am OK with that. :D

    • @LitiAquaria
      @LitiAquaria  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi buddy, there is no flow control via mobile app. The app I used in this video is for the Wifi Smart Extension Plug, which is used to turn on and off the filter only. 🙂 And also, regarding the noise: as this filter got rubber dampers at the bottom, noise due to vibration is much reduced. However, it is not totally deadly quiet. I put filter in cabinet, hence the humming sounds when it is in operation is negligible. 😄

    I've gotten two of the 850 Biomaster Thermos for the 220 gallon tank I'm setting up in the next couple weeks.
    ***Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken***, but the water travels from bottom to top thru the trays after the pre-filter on the pipe.
    What I've noticed is mine came with Black (60 PPI) filters on the pre-filter, which will obviously cause premature clogging, so I'm replacing it with Blue (20 PPI) sponges.
    Unfortunately, Oase doesn't offer Black (60 PPI) filter for the trays, so I've ordered some generic sheets that I'll cut to fit the trays.
    Additionally, I've ordered additional Orange (30 PPI) sponges for the trays.
    So, following the replacement Blue (60 PPI) sponges on the pre-filter, my planned order *from bottom to top* is:
    Tray #1) 0.6 inch bio-balls with tiny sponges (loose in the bottom tray) from Amazon
    Tray #2) Blue sponge (20 PPI)
    Tray #3) Blue sponge (20 PPI)
    Tray #4) 2 of the thinner Orange sponges (30 PPI)
    Tray #5) Black sponge (60 PPI)
    Tray #6) Black sponge (60 PPI)
    Tray #7) Bags of Purigen (In the thinner top tray)
    ***Can anyone think of anything I've overlooked or see anthing I've got out of order?***

    • @LitiAquaria
      @LitiAquaria  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi buddy. Do you mean your prefilter is Blue (20PPI) as you already replaced the Black (60PPI)?
      Your arrangement should be fine, but with many sponge layer, probably you might need to clean it time to time to prevent the flow reduction. Personally, I prefer to use more bio media / bio balls in the filter tray. Pre-filter with Orange sponge is quite fine, but it is very easy to clean. So I won't need to touch the rest of the tray everytime I do filter maintenance. :)

    The flow rate is very bad…actually terrible. The empellar far too small.

    • @LitiAquaria
      @LitiAquaria  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've been using the OASE Biomaster filter for a few years now, and I've noticed that reduced flow rate is often due to the fine prefilter getting clogged. When flow is reduced, simply cleaning the prefilter is a breeze, and the flow returns to normal. Additionally, if you're looking to improve flow rate, consider switching to a coarser sponge prefilter-it can make a difference.
      Despite this, I still appreciate the balance between flow rate and the ease of cleaning the prefilter. It's been a game-changer for maintaining my planted tank, especially during filter cleaning sessions.

    lol reminds me to be careful when do priming when i get biomaster haha, how long did you cycle the water and as well as how long to the final stage of the plants and fishes to come in, in total all in all?

    • @LitiAquaria
      @LitiAquaria  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi buddy! Yeah, primming with lower water level will prevent spilling. 😂 By the way, you can plant the plants from Day 1, no problem. For fish, the tank should be cycled first before you start having them in. If all brandnew biomedia and tank, it might take about 4 weeks to complete the cycle process. For me, I always try to use the old biomedia filter, so the cycling time is much shorten, probaby a few days to a week, I can safely having fish there. The old biomedia already "seeded" with good beneficial bacteria. That is the key! :D
