Imo the conversation between Claudia and Aaravos here is one of the best scenes of the season. I'm pretty sure it's the first truly honest exchange he's had with anyone in the entire show. He offers up the truth about Viren without being provoked, and lets her draw his true motivations out of him, with really nothing to gain from it --- except, perhaps, finding out if he CAN be honest at this point and still have her stay. It's twisted but I think there's some part of him that really still wants to be loved and needed. And his connection with Claudia is the first one he's made since his imprisonment, which kept him completely isolated for centuries. As angry and hateful and despicable as he is, he's starving for love and I think that's what adds a layer of tragedy to his character.
