I bought this camera when I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB in 1978. I was born in Pensacola Florida and raised in Southern California. My military career was widespread, but my favorite times were rock and ice climbing in this glorious region. The best was just outside Missoula Montana, 320 feet up, capturing our ice progress. It was 5 degrees fahrenheit and I sheltered this wonderful camera until there was a moment. I'm looking at it right now!
I bought my FM in 1980 along with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI lens. That was after a couple of years diligently reviewing camera test articles, talking with other Nikon camera owners, and saving money. Never regretted my decision it is a great camera and still works good as new. Easy to use, dependable, and built really well. Batteries seem to last forever they just power the light meter so if the batteries happen to die the camera still functions. Prices for good examples are quite reasonable now so if anybody is looking for a high quality manual focus, manual exposure film SLR camera I think the Nikon FM is worthy of consideration.
Every time I think about buying a new camera, I find myself comparing it to the Nikon FM (whether I want to or not). It's become my mental benchmark for what constitutes a "good camera" or not. Wonderful SLR, built like a brick and such a joy to use.
More than 20% of the video wasted while following a person. First image taken with the camera at 01:43. This, more than a review, is a show off. Anyway, good camera, indeed. I prefer the FE2, and I hate when "professional" is a term used to refer an object that doesn't make "professionals" to those who use it. A professional camera is the one ones uses to work with, independently of the camera. The speech and explanations are, as he say, self explanatory... The images taken, well, not from a master. Just a user level that have to produce one more video for the channel. This kind of superficial reviews are downgrading the quality of the cameras. 02:19... "that's pretty much it". So far, nothing we can't find in the manual. 02:22 Clean the lens. 03:08 end of "reading the manual part 2, light meter" stage. I'm expecting any review before 04:30, at least. 03:28. It only proves that the camera is in working condition. The system reliability is proven with technical tests, and most of the mechanical cameras from the 60's and 70's, if correctly served, are in good condition. Still waiting for the review. 03:32 wow... something interesting finally. 03:44 the set up is not the gear. Lens and film are not settings. ISO, Speed, Aperture, Exposure Compensation are the settings we need to understand an image. 04:00, she's not happy with you. Me neither. 04:20 Why?????? Ah, ok. Superficial and subjective reasons. 04:47 and the review is just "is nice, self explanatory, cheap, with character..." Man, go visit Ken Rockwell for real world reviews. And sorry, but you don't understand your gear, nor the camera nor the lens you use. Your photos are average low. But the video guy did a great job!!!!! After all, less than 10 photos taken with the camera, none of them worthy enjoy again.
Hey i usually fill your pain on these kind of videos, this isn't your as bad as a lot of them. The guy had some info that I haven't heard on any other video about this camera and I've watched about 10. I think he did a pretty good job.

I'm commenting, simply because our profile pics look good together ;)
The Nikon FM2 is also one of those cameras which you know will never let you down. Such a great piece of kit!
Simple and straight forward introduction on Nikon FM.......well done..... I have mine since 1977 till now........! Built like a Tank indeed......
It’s so satisfying the moment you pop a new cartridge in. Infinite light and shadows and possibilities awaits!
And what city are you even in, looks so nice and lively

Loved the video . I've just picked up a Nikon Fm camera and I'm just getting used to it . But yes it's a great camera .
Just ordered one off eBay from Japan for $200 (in mint +++ condition). Looking forward to trying it out and having something that can survive WWIII.
Nice video! So great mood.
I just got the FM . Do I have to get all 3 parts clear when I’m focusing ? It’s a little confusing . Great video btw

The "music" - particularly contrasted with the spoken audio level - makes this unwatchable.
This music is so overrated :(
Sorry!
Heard that "Music", too "art see fart see" killed the video immediately!
