  • New York, Susquehanna & Western's No. 3040 is featured here just past sunset on January 18, 2024 leading its train northbound on Utica NY's Schuyler Street.
"From ghoulies and ghosties, and long-legged beasties,
And things that go bump in the night,
    Protect us, O Lord,
And from the fury of the Northmen, deliver us."

Most train magazines keep telling us there are no more street running trains in the US. Especially freight.
Then we see great videos like this one!!
    Thank you so much !!

So love hearing the train whistle. That area is part of my history. My Grandparents and a few of my relatives lived on Sunset Ave, near the brewery. 🙂

I see the drivers in Utica are as impatient as the drivers in the UK. Thank you for making this video.🙃

Heh. must get old living there with trains that roll through at 5mph sometimes.

@@RobertCraft-re5sf So many of those houses have been there well over a hundred years. Many people living on Schyuler St were railroad employees years ago being nice and close to the yards. Utica had many different RR companies there at the same time and a lot of jobs. Must have been neat to see the old steam engines going by from the front porches of those places.

Wow, that was a long train for Schuyler Street! It's good to see that customers still use the rails. Thank you for another great video.

I love the classic traffic control tower in the background as the conductor waves at you. :-) Seeing a train come down the street like this is always interesting. Its like a fish out of water. Fascinating. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks again for being out there, RR. Gotta love the friendly conductors....you know how grouchy they can be sometimes. Real nice shot of the great old watchtower at the end of the video. I'm glad you got that in. I wish they'd pay me to sit up there and watch over everything.

That’s why I love US railways we would never have this here in the U.K. health and safety etc I think its great that a railway line goes down a road with no escort or car in front to move people out of the way superb 😊

I Love watching your videos, especially that they include street running! Too bad the headlights blind the camera just a bit !!! Keep sending these videos for us fans👏👏

Yes the 3040's headlight/ditch lights simply had too much candlepower for my camcorder. I've just acquired a new camera, however, an Osmo Pocket 3. I'm hoping it'll do a better job than my present camera in many respects. Thanks for commenting!

Easy--my office is right by the NYS&W where it crosses Genesee Street in Utica. On my way home, I noticed 3040 heading towards the crossing so I just went down to Schuyler Street and waited.

Lived and worked in Utica from 1969 to 1971 after school further up north. Looks like a remarkable lack of snow! Usually buried except for one January thaw. Does anyone know what the green tower is?
