What I asked for, the bleaching process and everything after that. Also, I refer to my hair as "they" since that's how we call our hair in Czech(my native language) and I am somehow unable to unlearn it in English 😄

    I went to beauty school and 20 is plenty for alot of people I can use 10 on my hair and I’m a brunet
    Also when your doing foils and it takes a long time you should use a lower developer
    Coconut oil would not make your hair fry when bleaching she just didn’t want to admit she used too high of a developer and left it too long

      Thanks for your comment, I agree, some hair really don’t need a high volume developer, unless you want it to work fast and get the job done quickly. In which case one should check the foils to see what is happening with the hair. I have recently tried to bleach with blond me 7 vol and it took longer, but still bleached my hair fine, even the lengths. So 20 vol. is plenty I think..

    I'm not convinced it was the coconut oil. There are some studies supporting the use of coconut oil to protect the hair when bleaching. If anything, it would have blocked the bleach from working, resulting in a brassy, patchy bleachjob by creating a barrier on the hair, not increased bleaching, so you may be right when you say it was possibly the length of time the bleach was on.
    Love your hair colour journey so far!

      That’s what I thought too, I’ve heard this from numerous hairdressers here on TH-cam, that if anything, coconut oil will block the bleach.. so I don’t know. Thank you for your comment ❤

      Not true, one of my coworkers was doing someone’s hair and she had coconut oil on her hair and the foils starting to puff up and get extremely hot. It was causing a chemical reaction

    I can tell you right now if she used a 30 - 40 developer on Virgin hair that was what caused the breakage and damage. I am not a hair dresser but even I know not to use over a 20 volume developer on Virgin hair and you should always do a strand test when working with someone else's hair.

      I completely agree! I have a new theory now, I just wandered why the rest of my hair was just fine. I think that because she applied the bleach heavily to the back section (there was only a tiny bit of my natural hair in between the bleached hair compared to the rest) that the bleach just worked faster and stronger. Plus the high developer of course. I’ve also noticed she didn’t apply a lot of bleach to the rest and I did have a lot of patchiness throughout the bleached hair. Some was still very dark or orange. So this is pretty much what I think happened..

      I agree Skai, I wandered if I should have gone back to her talk to her, but the way she was acting when I was there, she basically blamed it on me(that there was something in my hair) in a very nice way. I didn’t want any drama, there was so much going on in my life at that time. I probably would do it now 🌞

    Expert opinion here: it was not the coconut oil. It was a combination of strong peroxide strength on fine hair for extended period of time.
    She probably had no experience bleaching hair and in some previous attempt probably had the hair turn out orange when she used 20 vol. But the diameter/tickeness of the strands should be a factor while formulating. Also was heat used? If so the fojls may have swelled up and overflowed the strong mixed on to the scalp. Final answer is: shampoo, conditioner or coconut oil do not not cause a reaction with lightener.

    I think she used a very high developer (like 30 or 40) as you mentioned and left it on too long. Your hair was fried and it has nothing to do with the products you use. I put all kinds of different products in my hair (high end and inexpensive) and I have never had this happen to me.

      And I'm sorry you had that experience as well, it's terrible when things like this happen. I think she used a 30-40 volume and left it in too long plus the heat at the bottom of your head from your back and your neck with the foils and the other foils laying on top of it. Most hairdressers will start with a lower volume developer and then mix a stronger volume on the last sections at the end. It was the hairdresser that messed up and nothing to do with the coconut oil. She was trying to place blame on you or your hair.

    • @RiseHelenaDIY
      @RiseHelenaDIY  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I completely agree, I thought about it more and she even bleached way more strands on the bottom(the first section) than the rest of my hair, so it was heavily coated in strong bleach. Thanks for your thoughts ❤️

    I am so sorry this happened to you! It absolutely should not have, considering you had virgin hair… it should have been a clean, even lift. She lifted you WAY too high in the back underneath. Where it’s like white blonde and breaking. I always start with 10 vol in the back and move up to 20 or even 30 in some rare cases as I finish the final section, that way they’re all ready to be rinsed about the same time frame. Even with starting with 10 vol in the back, I will go through and pull the very first foils I put in while they’re still sitting in my chair processing. This ensures the first foils I put in won’t be over processed, because the bleach is sitting on those strands the longest amount of time, if that makes sense. I use this method in all of my blonde clients. I find it keeps those delicate little baby hairs under the nape of neck bright, but still healthy. I am a hairdresser that cares/ prioritizes health of the hair vs color and or style. Because it doesn’t matter how blonde we can get you, If you don’t have any healthy hair left to highlight. I truly do not think it was the coconut oil. I’ve known of chemical reactions to happen when someone has a build up of minerals in the hair from hard water, well water, or chlorine build up. Our chemicals can have a bad reaction with that, I’ve even heard of the foils heating up and smoking! Chemical reactions are rare and scary but they do happen every once in awhile. A way to minimize unpredictable results, would be to strand test first… also a clarifying treatment prior to a color service can prevent such things. I wish I could clarify every client before doing their hi lights (most of the clients in my area have well water- which is tricky with blonde) a clarifying treatment for everyone- so I have a nice clean base to work with. Sometimes the hair won’t lift easily due to mineral build up in the hair. Clarifying first would help. Unfortunately it’s just not practical in salon. I don’t have time to wash and blow out every single client 2x. So I will often advise my clients to book a clarifying treatment prior to their color service… or even recommend clarifying shampoo they can do it themselves at home before coming in 😊

    its not the coconut oil. I have been bleaching my own hair for years and use coconut oil the day before. I would rather ruin my own hair than have a hair dresser ruin my hair. I prefer to air dry my hair but some hair dressers don’t respect what I say. Im so sorry this happened to you. I would wear hair extensions until your hair grows out. Thats what i did and its growing but i still have a long hair look.

    I think she worked too slow. Also, she probably used too strong a developer. I have had this happen at the salon. Luckily I only had to chop 3 or 4 inches. She apologized and said she didn’t know it was going to take so long. ( older lady) Salon insisted I come in for deep conditioning every other week .

    She should have opened the foil and checked on your hair, especially since she never bleached your hair before, I can´t say much about the developer, to do it at home (as I always do) there´s no options, just standard packs, and I have no clue what strengths these packs has...personally, I have never had any kind of negative reaction from coconut oil, and I have a hard time seeing that the oil was the issue...feels like bullshit to me...

    20 Volume is More than

    Is way too strong
    Going Low and Slow is Best

    Now that I’m hearing about the coconut oil that could have affected the bleaching the shampoo might not have gotten it all the way out but she should have done a strand test I’m not a real hairdresser but I think because the shampoo was mixed with the conditioner it might not have gotten it out all the way and she also sounds like she was in a rush because it was her day off,
    Edit
    Also the developer was probably to strong.

    • @RiseHelenaDIY
      @RiseHelenaDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible, I am confused about the coconut oil, I have seen so many people drench their hair with coconut oil before bleaching (foils/ not foils) and nothing happened to their hair.. I always thought it could block the bleach from processing rather that speed up the process. I absolutely think the developer was too strong for my hair type. Thank you for your opinion, I appreciate it ❤

    Hair dresser of 12 years here!! First of all OGX (the brand of shampoo and conditioner you are using) is involved in a class action law suit for hair loss due to build up on the hair. This build up mixed with the coconut oil on your hair could very well be from cause of this. No hair dresser should EVER guarantee the results of your hair if you are not using salon recommended products in your hair. Coconut oil is also HORRIBLE for your hair. If you have it on iron hair you need to tell your stylist. This is a combination of chemical reactions and bad luck. It happens and this is why your hair dresser recommends products to you. It’s for your benefit not ours
