My grandfather had a pair of lasts, because as a Northumberland miner, back in the day, he used to cobble his own boots. You might be able to find a pair of lasts in a house clearance, flea market or antique type shops. I have booked on a jeans course in March next year (exciting!)I love the D&D Magnolia, although I haven’t got the pattern (yet 🤣🤣) . I hope you get lots of the items on your wish list! Happy birthday Laura, hope you're having a wonderful day. I've just had my birthday & my husband paid for me to attend the Harriet bra making course @ The New Craft House and my friends clubbed together to buy me a Sneaker Kit, which is winging it's way over to me right now. LizSews has some lovely tutorials on the Harriet, the hardest bit is getting all the right bits & pieces & getting the fit right. I'm looking forward to being 100% Me made soon.
Oh both of those things sound amazing! I have my first Harriet bra cut out just waiting for the underwires to arrive and to pluck up the courage to give it a go

Belated Happy Birthday Laura! I'm so tempted by the Mind the Maker fabrics, I keep having a look at the viscoses!

I try to be very mindful when buying fabric and patterns. I don't usually spontaneously purchase, which does mean I can miss out on fabric but I love to put things in my cart and return time and time again to edit my cart before waiting for the best time to purchase. By that stage I've usually worked out how much a fabric means to me. Even if I don't get to make it up immediately, if I've loved it enough to go back to look at it many times over I at least know I will make it up.
I'm the same I always return to my full baskets and do a full!

@@TheSpeckySeamstress I finally made friends with my overlocker 25 years plus after I bought it. Sergers are called overlockers here in Australia.
I was not able to deal with the tension issues on my overlocker. Issues on sewing machines are much easier to sort out including tension issues. But 25 years after I bought my Brother 760D overlocker I was able to sort out the tension issues on it.

Happy Birthday! Yes to a dressmaker’s dummy and any Atelier Brunette or Liberty fabric: definitely not cheap but absolutely worth it for the handle and quality. Do let us know how the NY trip goes...

Birthdays are definitely for spoiling yourself! I love the Mind the Maker fabric, it would be really versatile and look great with so many patterns. And I love the Dashwood jewel fabric, and wear my dress in it all the time (except when I can't be bothered to iron!). I've also thought about getting the I Can Make Shoes book too because I struggle to buy high street shoes with my wide feet :P
How good would it be to kit yourself out from head to to, from underwear to coat, all in me-made!

BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY (Mine is tomorrow 6th - not such a fun day for me I'll be having radiotherapy 😞. What a fun list 😀 Liberty lawn is a DREAM to sew with, I've made a Kalle shirt and a couple of other shirts and it's amazing. I'm not a great fan of Dashwood Rayon it's veery meh to work with and wear. On the dressmakers dummy - I really wouldn't bother, I've been making my own clothes for 45+ years without one and always fit on myself. On my -never going to happen - wish list is a Baby Lock coverstitch 🤣🤣🤣 but I'l settle for some reels of thread and a few free hours sewing time. Hope you have a fabulous day 😘😘

Happy Birthday Laura 🎂🍾🎈❤️. I decided that when we put so much time and effort into making our garments we should buy more quality fabrics. Those of us that have been sewing for any length of time already have a good supply of fabrics we can use as a toile, so buy what makes you happy and if that means we have to wait for the perfect fabrics so be it. I think you need that gorgeous liberty fabric it's so you, love the colours in it. Have a fabulous birthday and bombfire night. I loved bombfire night when I was a kid, going around the neighbourhood collecting wood, the fireworks and all the neighbours gathered around the fire with treacle toffee,candy apples and those burnt to a cinder baked potatoes that we all said were great but tasted like crap. Loved it, oh the memories 🇨🇦🇬🇧❤️
AHH what a nice memory! I love bonfire night but was always scared of fireworks as a kid! Had a lovely day and the remnant of mind the Maker arrived and it's so gorgeous I might have to buy some more!
Happy birthday! Enjoy the garment district, I spent two hours in mood and it was heaven although I was a bit overwhelmed. For Christmas I always ask for Merchant and Mills Tencel, I’m not asking this year and just buying some

Never heard of "Mind the Maker", before.....
I've always wanted to order from "Spoonflower", but cannot bite the bullet on those prices!! LOL
I would like a new embroidery machine-like that would happen!! LOL The one I have is 20 years old, but I'm afraid something will happen that it won't work any more, and they aren't making the parts for it-I heard! They shouldn't do that-machines last a long time if you take care of them.

Happy birthday Laura! You are not good for my bank balance! My best spoonflower buy was a canvas that had a guy's Master's degree maths notes on it. My son was doing his maths PhD at the time so I made him a back pack in it for Christmas. He opened it and started checking the maths...I was on tenterhooks in case he found a mistake and wanted to correct it haha!

Liberty fabrics used to be printed in Lancaster at a historic place called Steadfast and Barracks. When Lancaster flooded last year the contract was lost to Italy. HOWEVER Standfast and Barracks have their own designers and beautiful fabrics are still being produced. They have an online shop and a factory shop.

Have you tried the So Sew Easy wrap dress? It is free and has a great tutorial. Comes up quite big and I lengthen the bodice but otherwise it is fab!
