      @peachBloom 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @CyberBeep_kenshi I've understood in the recent past why the Blue Lagoon was allowed to stay open. They have learned to evacuate quickly and efficiently. That was during the current eruptions to the east. But, this increase in pressure at the power plant has never in its history happened. It's pure greed and gambling with people's lives at the Blue Lagoon, now! The Met Office should shut it down.

    • @reekoreeko1857
      @reekoreeko1857 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Isn't it because the power plant can also operated remotely? Or perhaps, the bore holes are actually more perilous than are being let on? I dunno, but the blue lagoon has to keep staff employed or let them go. As long as they are being responsible, well,.............I see it is a contentious issue.

    The first I became aware of how active this area has become was with a podcast by Gylfi.
    I didn't have to watch for long to be aware of his love for this land & it's unique geology.
    It was through exploring the scientific aspects of Gylfi's Drone videos that I found your informative pod casts Shawn.

    Hey Shawn! Thanks for the update always good to hear from you. Just a little request, the next time you contact Amanda Jo could you get some info on whether the fish processing plant in Grindavik is in operation? With the increasing daylight hours they must be getting into their peak fishing season there. Also could you point out that this is the off season for visitors to the Blue Lagoon. Roman, of Icelandic Explorer, who is a tour bus driver said that he only gets tour groups to the Blue Lagoon maybe once or twice a week now. Two weeks ago he filmed from there and the restaurants looked pretty empty and only a dozen or so people were in the Lagoon itself.

    Dr Wilsey, Justicelandic had a series of interesting drone flights over other volcanic systems that are believed to be inactive but his thermal imaging scans of those fields showed what looked to me like significant amounts of latent thermal energy being emitted from the ground of the older flow areas of these other larger volcanic systems.

    Iceland's geothermal power plants have 50 high temperature boreholes that range in depth from 100 meters to 2,200 meters. Of these, 33 are currently connected to the power plant, producing steam at temperatures of 280°C-380°C. Straight from google. :D

      HS Orku is the company that runs the Svartsengi Power Plant, so it is not a specific borehole. However, in the past events, the borehole data that was used to signal the early signs of an intrusion were all from borehole 12 (the deepest borehole they have), so I think it was data from borehole 12 again. Borehole 12 is at a depth of 2506m.
      Did you notice, the change in pressure this time was a decrease - in past intrusions it was an increase of pressure.
      9:00 The direction of the eq south of Thorbjorn, take a look at the InSAR images of early May, there is a bit of deformation going on in that area, looks like the magma body has enlarged itself towards the south. The clusters of EQ just NW of Grindavik are all in the area with recent uplift/deformation

    It’s starting to make me a little nervous in that when the eruption happens it’s going to be huge, not sure if that’s a valid supposition ie. the amount of magma that has accumulated, given that these past eruptions have happened with a lot less magma! Anyway, we wait & see what happens hey 🤷‍♀️

    I noted the Meteorological Agency said there was a minor pressure drop, however Professor Magnus Tuni talked about an increase in pressure in the boreholes. I wonder which was it or if it was both? What exactly are they measuring the pressure of...the underground water pressure?

Cause I would imagine stuff in the -10K quakes operate differently than the -1K quakes, and you could visualize that better

    If water in a well increases pressure, would that be indicative that upward movement from deep below has been greater than upward movement at surface, thus reducing volume available for the water in the water table ad hence water wanting to exit via wells?
    If now, I am curious on the relationship between well rpessure increaing and maga chamber filling up since I was under impression they were completely separate.
