  • What accessories or " Eggcessories" do I need to go with my Big Green Egg? That is one of the most asked questions that I see and hear from new BGE owners. There are so many to choose from, but which are the most important? For this episode, we break down what we feel are the most vital and useful additions that you'll need to make Egging easier and more enjoyable. From the Eggspander to heat gloves to the wok, we really cover it all.

      @@jjf1free641 Hey there, it is really up to you. When I use the two half moons, I like to overlap them a bit anyway. I feel that it increases the air flow and helps with better fire management. That being said, I personally prefer to use the conveggtor.

    The most important accessory is the plate setter. It really should be included with every BGE because you're really only getting half the functionality if you don't have it. The most useful accessory I found is a digital temperature controller like the BBQ Guru or Tempmaster. The ability to set a temp and have have it digitally controlled and then get an alert when your meat reaches the desired temp makes smoking effortless. You don't worry about having to adjust your damper periodically to keep your heat down and you don't have to worry about your fire going out if you're smoking over night. It also increases the consistency of your product. It is the best money I've spent on my BGE because it makes me a better cook.

      A whole lot of extras that you simply don’t need. They’re just trying to gouge you. I’ve had my big green egg for 12 years never needed any of that stuff. The plate setter I understand but that should come with the big green egg when you buy it. I see now people are hooking their big green it up with extension cords so they can download what’s going on on the computer! Have people lost their minds? I can figure out when the food is done just by the temperature in time I don’t need to shove a bunch of wires in there and hook it up to the Wi-Fi.

    The one accessory I would put on your list, second only to the plate setter (convEEGtor) is the Big Green Egg Electric Charcoal Fire Starter 600 Watt. I bought my first BGE 11 years ago, and for all of the hours and hours I’ve spent struggling to get a fire going in strong, gusty winds using fire started cubes, the electric stater coil is worth its weight in gold. There are no moving parts, so nothing can break.

How would you put two layers of stones or cast iron plates between the fire and the item cooking? I got burnt out in Dec due a wild fire and don't have access to my Green Egg and Stuff. There is something called SloRoller that I am considering on getting, but not sure I need it as there maybe other ways to get two layers between the fire and the meat.

    Very good video. As was stated, the conveggtor or half moons are not an option. The 5 piece Eggspander system is somewhat eggspensive but to get the full. benefit of it additional accessories are needed which adds more to the price. The good thing about the Eggspander is that BGE makes these accessories and you'll know they fit eggactly; no guessing involved. The only other item that is generally needed is a remote meat thermometer for those low and slow cooks. I do not find a need for a aftermarket regulator or ash basket; the Egg cooks fine without them.

    • @FOGOcharcoal
      @FOGOcharcoal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wouldn't mess with any of the BGE racking systems. The Ceramic Grill Store came up with all of the ideas, that BGE stole, almost 20 years ago. The owner Tom makes all his products in the US and they are better thought-out and build on each other. Here is one example: th-cam.com/video/S4NqEFNgqV4/w-d-xo.html

    My top two accessories..
    1. Lump charcoal that's not $30-$40 a bag I think that's ridiculous for charcoal.
    I'm a new BGE owner and have had good luck with B&B premium lump, average price I'm seeing is around 15 bucks for 20 lb bags. Through my first 3 cooks it has burned extremely well with not much ash.

    Man…just buy a Kamado joe. I inherited a XL big green egg and I love it but for the money Kamado joe is way better and comes with the divide and conquer system included for direct and indirect cooking. Kamado joe all day. My buddy was looking at a ceramic grill to purchase and I talked him into the classic Kamado joe and he loves it. He has used it so much already for the last 2 weeks and hates that he didn’t get one sooner at a price of $1000. Kamado joe is just better. Period.

    Don't buy the Eggspander. It's made in China and BGE nearly copied the design from the Ceramic Grill Store. Go and buy the Adjustable Rig from The Ceramic Grill Store. Way better options and made in Texas!!! The Eggspander is a complete rip-off from all the years of hard work from Tom and The Ceramic Grill Store.

    • @mikem1436

      People are still promoting the false claim the BGE stole the design from the Ceramic Grill Store. The Eggspander is different and way more versatile than the Adjustable Rig. No one mentions the fact some one took a piece of round stock, bent it in a circle, then laid/welded additional pieces across it to create what we all know as a grill grate. Every grill grate since then was a copy of that original one. Buyers will decide for themselves whether they prefer the BGE design, CGS design, or some other design.
