What Are Natural Flavors And Why Are They In Everything At The Grocery Store?!

  • Natural flavors are taking over the grocery store! Look at the ingredient list and there is a good chance somewhere towards the bottom is natural flavors. The food industry has figured out how to make foods taste better and make us addicted to them under the guise of natural flavors. There is nothing natural about them, they are developed in a lab with up to 100 chemicals, designed to excite our taste buds and brains, and make us hooked on their products. I will go int more detail below, but I believe this is one of the biggest issues we face at the grocery store today! Mad love Bobby...Dessi...and Art! XOXO
    The only rule regarding natural flavors, is that they must originate from something natural. After that, you can alter the flavor any way you want using chemicals. This is done by 3rd party companies, by scientists in a lab. Don't ask these food companies what's in their natural flavors, because they don't actually know!
    There is a ton of research available online, just start searching for it. Including great articles by the food babe. Just ask yourself this, would you rather eat a product made from "vanilla extract" or "natural vanilla flavors"? These two are not the same, the later uses chemicals to enhance the vanilla bean flavors. This is true despite the messages I have been getting for food science people telling me that I am wrong and a fear monger, ha!

      @@The.Whoever I'm not sure of the outcome. The center for food safety sued the FDA in 2014 because of harmful chemicals in our food...however the FDA isn't governed by anyone in authority and just like most corrupt organizations they usually find loopholes to get themselves out of trouble. The more people refuse to buy these poisons the more it would force companies to make safer products. I think the only way for us to truly get real food is to regulate it ourselves...don't buy their crap.

      Canned tuna is not so much about just the can but the tuna itself. Cans are coated with BPA which messes up our hormones and if not coated, they are made of aluminium which has been linked to many diseases including Alzheimers and Austism. Aside from the can, tuna are large fishes that has lots of mercury in them. Another cause for concern. Bottomline, go for glass packaging whenever possible and a smaller fish type over tuna. :)

Then m&m's are back and stevia is out.. What's the point in labelling every single molecule in a food? Do you know how long a label would be? And for what? You wouldn't even know what they are if they were said. Isoamyl acetate is banana flavoring, aka banana oil. Have you ever read the back of your shampoo bottle and decided that if you didn't know what every ingredient was, you weren't going to buy it? (kudos if you do). Do you know what flavorings even are and how they work? You should try researching before you demonize them. It's funny, never in this video did B. P. ever say why natural flavorings are bad.

    • @AvocadoSmoothiee
      @AvocadoSmoothiee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Andrea Hagen i recall him saying that they are bad because they use the base flavor and add chemicals to enhance the flavor and get us hooked on the products.... but idk how the chemicals that enhance flavor harm us. There are a lot of chemical formulas like h2o that are good for you lol I think if u can find it without the nf then go for it but we shouldn’t stress and not enjoy food if it has natural flavor when the rest of the ingredients are clean..

      AvacadoSmoothie. Consider this. When researchers need 100 rats to experiment with, they shoot a chemical, any chemical, into the rats. They then have 100 rats with cancer or some other disease to experiment with. CHEMICALS ARE BAD FOR YOU. They do not belong in your mouth. Very dangerous.

    I so appreciate Bobby and FlavCity's videos. I haven't read through the comments to see if anyone is addressing the **plastic** every freaking thing is packaged in these days which is really frustrating to someone who is really trying to eat as healthy as possible!! Yes thank God the BPA is being removed from a lot of plastic packaging but that doesn't help the other plastics that are left IN packaging still. There is growing concern about that being a problem as well. If anyone has research links for me to look at which would help quail my fears of BPA free plastics please share~~thank you so much!!!

      Hi Bobby, Thank you for exposing what natural flavors means in processed foods. But in organic foods- natural flavors are not the same as in processed foods. They are organic and natural. These flavors must meet strict guidelines for organic. Alot of companies use this as a way to hide their formulas from other companies. I have worked in the health food industry for over 10 years and worked for companies that use natural flavors and know the stringent testing these organic companies have to go through to get the organic certification. You can even call these companies and they will verify their methods. Hope this helps your mission to educate about natural flavors.

    Bobby check who bought the companies. Like Ben and Jerry before I love them but when Unilever bought them I left them alone. Honest Tea and Kids juice use to be awesome none of that crap in it But when Coke Bought them the crap started being put in and they left Seth Goldman the once owner on it like that would help sell I stop drinking them a long time ago. Naked Juice I remember getting my favorite blue machine and saying hey this is gross what happen? Pepsi brought them and they had a class-action lawsuit over it not being natural anymore. All these companies that were once great see who bought them and how the ingredients change, it is sad they even agree to this. Please talk about rosemary flavoring I see that on labels too. Thank you for the videos.

      Yeah and Annie's is owned by General Mills and Talenti is owned by Unilever. The bigger the corp, the more regulated and safer the food is. The more stores the food is in, the more regulated and safer the food is. Rosemary flavoring is literally just extracted oil from the rosemary plant. It is generally just used as a flavoring for meats and breads and whatnot so they don't have to use the whole rosemary plant when flavoring their meats.

    Sincere rant for help: Something with "100 chemicals" doesn't sound desirable or "natural," BUT if the net effect of those chemicals is to make something addictive BY heightening its positives and inhibiting its negatives, then WHY should I be concerned, especially if I am not particularly prone to addiction? Anything "prepared," including a chef adding just the right spices and cooking techniques, can be made a do-over ("addictive"). On Keto the concern is carbs, hidden carbs, like malodextrin and cassava. Is Natural Flavoring going to interfere with ketosis? Will it cause inflamation? Cancer?!? If all NFs are not created equal, then for sure it is something to be avoided when there is an alternative, or a sense that a particular product is counterproductive; BUT is it really the deal killer when scouting out a keto-friendly alternative to a grocery stocked to the rafters with sugar and wheat? The Frustrated

    • @anthonyharris2930
      @anthonyharris2930 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look noone is going to argue with you so go eat your chemical laded chemicals that claim they are natural but aren't. There are no positives added. Its only to enhance the taste to a unnatural level so you get addicted and buy/eat more. Then you get ill and get health complications and those medical bills start piling up
