My mom was 2 years old when this song was released. Neither my mom nor I had known of its existence til I was 16 and watched a video on TH-cam of Rod Hull singing it on the 80s TV show "Emu's World". This song is so bittersweet to me and I love it so much!

Yes, guilty as charged about listening to the radio through the pillow, or listening to the radio til 2 a.m. after *one side* of a Steve and/or Eydie record played. That radio landed in the floor overnight SOOOO many times but some 35 years later, it still plays!

You're absolutely right. It did make it to #14 on Easy Listening and as you suggested, on a bad year, would have charted even higher. Thanks very much for checking it out and for your generous rating.

A great posting! I had the 45 of this song and more than likely wore it out! I'm a long-time fan of Steve & Eydie. I also must echo soundznice's comments about 1969 and 1970 being great years for pop music. No question about it! A belated happy 75th birthday to Steve Lawrence and my thanks for posting this one, a favourite for over 40 years!

I am working with Roger Nichols who wrote this song, I sure love this version! Steve has a much better voice than almost any other male vocalists of the 1950's, 60's that's for sure!

a friend gave me a dvd of some show called Music Scene and it had this song by Steve and i know zero about him or his songs but this is GREAT!! i love this song and want to get it on a cd? is it on any cd or just that lp with Edie called 'Hallelujah'? i love pop songs like this. too bad todays kids dont have a clue with the rap crap. sad there will never be that time period when songs like this were around.

Marc Joe I knew this song from hearing it on the radio when growing up, but had forgotten about it until I saw the clip from that same Music Scene show, which had been posted on YT. Turns out Steve and Eydie themselves set up a charitable foundation, which was selling old 45s of their music and that's how I got a mint copy. I don't know of any CD. My suggestion would be to just use one of the online apps to download it from YT. Won't be CD quality, but you'll still have it forever. Check out "Footsteps" and "Go Away Little Girl" for two other Steve Lawrence hits, and then, of course, he did a lot of popular stuff with Eydie.
Today's crap is rap. But yesterday's crap was heavy metal or some other unmusical junk. Even classical music has its garbage. Every now and then today (usually in a convenience store) I do hear a catchy contemporary pop song. But I agree that pop from the past was generally better.
