I know of barbless hooks .🤣,,perhaps a little sarcasm..I remember I was fishing on Umatilla..hooked a little Steelhead on a flat bedrock beach..anyway my bet was behind me..fish was ready..up.5 lbs . Not big..but reached for net and he threw lure at same time...it is a bad feeling..🙁....anyway that's fishing..🙂. I would like plunking more if I ever caught a fish plunking. I like more active types like bobber or spinner. The guys I've seen successful plunking on the Columbia are running such heavy gear they just yard the fish in. I do love barbs though.
I know the feeling, got my first plunking bell ringer today but it didn't stick. I got those cold water stong leaders you recomended and they are pretty slick. How far do you typically cast if you don't mind? I was 80 ft out on the line counter today but I'm not confident in where I need to be yet for steelhead.

What we do netting on sandy beach's is net over top pin to sand and drag to dry sand lose to many going under them....

How far you cast depends entirely on your location ! Each bank drops off differently . Play around with your depths in new locations

I learned long ago, if there is a bank ill slide it. I've lost to many fish to bad netting and I'd rather blame myself then the guy netting.
Yeah but then you end up sliding native fish up into the sand and that’s never what we want to see done
